  1. Stat of the day: if the Cubs gave every team a 2 run handicap this year, their record would be the third best in the NL at 17-11
  2. I know your kidding but I actually did feel let down a bit. And then happy because I realized how awesome it is to be upset that we only won by 2 over the team with the second best record in baseball
  3. Yeah I saw this comment earlier describing the matchup between the Nationals and Cubs: I also wouldn't be surprised at all if that banned poster in the game thread was a mets troll from that website. Clearly it was just a guy trying to get a rise out of people here, but I seem to remember last year in the playoffs that gay slurs occurred in just about every other post on that website. Yeah the thing is I'm fine if they feel relatively confident given how they did last year but they are acting like we don't even need to play the season out because the playoffs will play out exactly the same as last year. I hope their players have the same mentality because they will get what's coming to them.
  4. After reading the Mets Refugee boards to see what they are saying about us, I can't want to knock their cocky asses out of the playoffs this year. They seem to think because they beat us in a playoff series last year they are guaranteed to destroy us this year.
  5. Looking forward to more 3 inning postseason appearances from Hammel and Hendricks! I kid
  6. The incessant whining about the complaints in game threads (most of which appear to me to be tongue in cheek anyway) is far more annoying to me than any complaints themselves. so meta the complaining about the whining about the complaining is even farther more annoying than any complains themselves. this is still better than the usual 'complain about the complaining about the irrational negativity' battle
  7. omg CardRed is like my favorite poster ever. I encourage everyone to check out the last 3 "Other Games" threads there. Oh well nevermind I'll just post my favorites all from CardRed: 5/3: 5/4: (Comment about Cubs being 5-4 during day games) (Comment about Cubs on pace to allow 400 runs) 5/5: (comment that the Cubs are winning)
  8. Honestly I never even thought about Arrieta and PEDs until the speculative story popped up. I mean it makes perfect sense just looking from afar. Now that the idea has been introduced into my head, I am scared of him getting busted for something even though there is no actual evidence to suggest it.
  9. Can't tell if that was an intentional set up for a Cruz-looks-like-Ricketts joke or not.
  10. Yeah with the Cubs scuffling like they are now there's just no way to be patient with a guy like Soler, who has a 12% walk rate and a ridiculous low babip. That's a fair point, but my whole post was based on the fact that he's lost his PT over the last week or so. If he's not getting ABs here I'd like him to get some development in Iowa. It's not like he will force himself into the ends of games because of his defense. So if Joe isn't starting him, he's in a tough spot to see the field more than 1-2 times a week.
  11. Does it matter? With Bryant and Zobrist both with the ability to play OF and Soler not hitting, you can start them both every day if you wanted to. FWIW, I think Russell still has more offensive upside than Baez and is on par or better as a defender. I know this is splitting hairs, and in the end Russell will probably figure it out and be the better player, but why wouldn't you still give a higher offensive upside to Baez? I also think Javy could be a gold glove caliber infielder. As mentioned before, Addy has shown much better plate discipline. Javy has been great and has a higher power upside but he's also benefiting from a nice BABIP I believe. And yes Javy can be a GG caliber IF and maybe already is but Russells advanced defensive metrics last year show that he is already one of the top few defensive IFs in baseball. As a 21 year old rookie

  13. To finish .500 - 60-75 To win 90 - 69-66 To win 97 - 76-59 To win 100 - 79-56 To win 117 - 96-39 If the Cubs.... (round up for odd number of games left) Play .450 the rest of the year (73 win pace): 82-80 Play .500 the rest of the year (81 win pace): 89-73 Play .550 the rest of the year (89 win pace): 95-67 Play .600 the rest of the year (97 win pace): 102-60 Play .617 the rest of the year (100 win pace): 104-58 Play .778 the rest of the year (current pace): 126-36
  14. That's what happens when you allow judgement calls to get reviewed. That's why the other 3 spots don't allow that for the most part.
  15. He hasn't earned PT and I'm pretty frustrated with him and I love what Javy's been doing, but its a bit sad that Soler has lost the majority of his PT. Maybe they should just send him down for a few weeks and let him get his confidence back in Iowa. I know that we are short handed in the OF right now but if Soler isn't hitting, he really doesn't provide much value with his glove or his baserunning, so there's really no point in keeping him up here. A demotion isn't the end of the world. He just turned 24 and didn't have much minor league time to begin with. Despite all the struggles, I believe he still has the potential needed to be a star, but he's not going to get there sitting on the Cubs bench, nor is he going to increase his trade value there.
  16. According to this report: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/source--angels-ace-garrett-richards-expected-to-undergo-tommy-john-surgery-141439002.html No word on whether his 40+ pitch inning against the Cubs has anything to do with this.
  17. It's just one quote, but it definitely seems like the Nats are putting some stock into this series. Dusty tried to downplay the series in the media but you know he's getting his guys pumped up with some of his best fishing stories.
  18. I don't know, he looked like he hit the wrist more when diving at 9:09 and Len even comments that he hopes he's alright Heyward said it happened in Arizona Yeah I remembered that after I posted this. That dive I posted might have aggravated it...sure didn't look like a smooth landing for his wrist.
  19. Since region means like nothing these days Id go with Cincinnati and UConn. No conference should be allowed to have 3 time zones represented among its members. What 3 time zones would there be? The traditional schools are all in the central time zone, and WVU is already in the league as an eastern time zone team. Cincinnati and UConn would both also be eastern teams.

  21. Tonight was the first time in MLB history that four 1st place teams played in the same city on the same night. Not terribly surprising but a cool fact nonetheless
