    Yeah I was going to say go look back at the videos from the Schwarber game if you're considering trading him for a reliever. But then I remembered that a 9th and 13th inning HR game against Cinci in the regular season doesn't really jump out that much anymore when the dude clubbed the Cards and Pirates out of the playoffs with many magificent moon shots. Get real Yankees. Dude is clutch, he walks, he hits for power, he's young, he's beloved in the clubhouse, he actively seeks to increase his knowledge of the game, we control him for several more years at a very low price. His status as an untouchable should not even be up for debate.

    Javy is such an interesting player. He looks like he's falling back into old habits and then all the sudden he hits a grand slam and has 3 hits the next day and looks like a franchise cornerstone. I for one am enjoying the ride.

    I think teaching discipline is tough but if you have 40+ HR power you are going to naturally going to be pitched around more. Sammy Sosa had a career .308 OBP over his first 9 seasons, then starting with 1998 he had a .372 OBP over his last 9 seasons. Obviously there are a LOT of variables in there (steroids, the era, intentional walks, etc etc) but it is theoretically possible.

    If the Cubs schedule only had the Reds and Pirates on it, they would be on pace for a 144-18 season assuming we take care of business the rest of this one.

    Slow grounder to 2B, Javy charged it hard, lunged to make the tag on Votto, did a 270 degree spin and while going down threw a strike to Rizzo to get the guy at first. I hope the DVR caught this game. If not, Javys got it

    This post is beginning to look prescient I am the OP and even I have to disagree. I am not sure how to feel when I refresh NSBB and see 5 notifications. It usually means I either said something really dumb or really funny.

    I didn't say I'm not enjoying it, just that I'm a little more guarded in assuming a comfortable win after the recent sample. It's more that you're kinda the Tim Kurkjian of pointing out bad things that happened to the Cubs on a regular basis. Relax. Your turning a molehill into a mountain. This isn't even a bad thing just a comment that the games have been more competitive lately But I know the deal we go back and forth for 5 minutes and then we move on. Shouldn't have even engaged after your comment I should know better :)

    I was going to make a comment about enjoying a comfortable game but the last 3 times I thought that the final scores were: 11-8 Cubs (was 8-7 in the 9th), 8-6 Marlins and 5-4 Cubs

    Humblebrag approved It's a work trip - I'd rather be home watching the game. Be thankful. When I go on work trips it's somewhere like Indianapolis or Kansas City. You get to go to freaking Paris.

    that was awesome except the injury. Rizzo! 3-0 3 batters into the game. And Rizzo wasn''t even running hard out of the box and got the ITP HR pretty easily.

Was just reading your comment yesterday about England being an insular country and their ignorance, and then I read this quote, too perfect. There's enough smoke out there to tell me that Jurgen is anywhere from open to leaving USMNT to actively trying to depart, even if it is all coming from England. For him it makes sense, he can say he left on a high note by finishing 4th in Copa, even if we were the host country and there are many statistics that show we played rather poorly for the entire tournament.

    One thing I did not see addressed in this article as a concern is Addison's continued struggle against LHP. For his career he has 25 hits in 175 AB against LHP, although 14 of those hits have been for extra bases (10 doubles, 4 HR) and his walk rate is 23% vs. 8% against RHP, but perhaps part of that reason is that he is not swinging at as many pitches because he knows he can't hit them. Some rudimentary numbers, ill let the smart guys handle the advanced stuff. Career vs RHP: .271/.334/.422/.757, 8% BB%, 30% K%, .358 BABIP Career vs LHP: .143/.250/.269/.519, 23% BB%, 33% K%, .188 BABIP Reverse splits always confuse the hell out of me as its understandable why many hitters struggle against same handed pitchers, but the reasons why, are inversely the reasons why many hitters are much better against opposite handed pitchers. So it doesn't make sense to me and my feeling is always that reverse splits are either a) Flukes or b) at least much more fixable than for instance a lefty that mightily struggles against LHP. Any thoughts/ideas/theories? I really don't want our awesome SS to be a platoon guy because he can't hit lefties, although for this season it works because Javy kills lefties.

    Fun fact: If we play at the same pace we have since our 25-6 start (which is 25-20, a 90 win pace over a full season), we will finish 98-64 which would be the most wins in a season since 1945
