  1. Keep waiting for Heyward to prove he deserves to hit second behind Fowler
  2. They need our money, we need their credibility. Next step is a full-on confederation merger, travel be damned. Edit - these are terrible ideas. I'd love to have the US be permanent participants, but this is not a good thing. 1) Instead of 4 tournaments over 3 years (for example Copa/Gold Cup in 2015, Copa/Gold Cup in 2017), you are having 1 tournament over 4 years (Copa America in 2016). I'm sure the Gold Cup doesnt make a ton of money, but does 1 tournament split between 2 confederations really make more money than 2 tournaments per confed? 2) How do they award Confederations spots? I would assume there would still be 1 per confederation, so you couldnt just do 'the 2 finalists' because that could be Brazil vs Argentina or something. 3) Officials in Argentina are really ok with doing away with the old copa and holding their tournament 5000 miles away every single time? How about the poorer countries? Just seems odd. I like things the way they are now but maybe every 20 years do an event like right now.
  3. I'm declaring this series over. Cleveland might win both at home but there is no way they are going 4-1 against team that is 87-14 so far this year. LeBron will be 2-5 in Finals and only a miracle 3 from Ray Allen is keeping him from 1-6. Maybe it's not fair to judge ones legacy on how many titles they won or what your record is in NBA Finals series is because obviously the team around you matters, and making 6 straight finals with 2 teams is pretty impressive. But fair or not, he will be historically judged on his finals record. Even today Wilt is typically pushed down a spot or two in the all time rankings for many people and the first reason they mention is that, compared to his contemporary Bill Russell, he did not win as often. Although MJ and LeBron's careers did not intersect, the latter started immediately after the former retired and I believe they will be compared historically and LeBron's comparison will not ultimately be favorable
  4. Definitely sounds like a Mark Clark start
  5. Still waiting for that tweet that says something like "Arrieta is the first pitcher in big league history to pitch 5 innings and have 90+ percent of his balls allowed in play be hits"
  6. Damn you Pat. Thought it was a lead off double
  7. Come on 1 more to remove Jake as pitcher of record
  8. One more Cubs oddity, they've lost the last game of every homestand this season and won the last game of every road trip.
  9. I obviously don't want this to happen and I am in no way conceding this game but that would be so baseball to have the Cubs go 8-2 on a homestand and have the 2 losses be the 2 starts our reigning Cy Young winner starts
  10. So his BABIP against is .875 today right?
  11. So we are ok with letting home throw 190 pitches to let him have a 26 K game right?
  12. Ugh. based on pitch count this might be a short start
  13. What happened to his career?
  14. I'd rather Rizzo be the 1 LHH in the lineup and Ross get the start behind the plate. Best pitcher pitching should mean best defense playing. I hate basing matchups on splits when you're taking out an elite player playing elite baseball the last 7 days, who's also an elite defender. Agree that Rizzo should never be the lefty that sits against a tough lefty. He's struggled this year against them but has proven he is not particularly vaunerable against lefties in the past. Also I'm hoping that HR he hit the other day against the lefty is a sign he's getting back on track.
  15. Same place Heyward is. Ready to PH against some scrub in the late innings. Not sure if it's fair to run up the score like that
  16. The Cubs need to use the party room one more time because they won't get many chances coming up...20 of their next 26 are on the road after this one.
  17. I don't think Shields was going to move the needle a ton on his trade value in the next 7 weeks, and for the possibility of getting better prospects, there's also the possibility that things get worse for Shields or he gets hurt. I would guess he's thinking that the risk of losing what's on the table (Erik Johnson and Fernando Tatis jr) is not devastating loss if you wait a few weeks and he gets injured or they don't get as good of an offer. My guess is that the trade was financially motivated. Even though they ate half the deal, that's still a $28m savings for a team that's going nowhere. That is what you risk by waiting until late July when the Sox are offering it now.
  18. Continuing the discussion from the game thread, this is one of the ads that keeps redirecting me from the site. It happens probably 1/3 of the time when I click on a thread. Using Safari on iPhone
  19. Seek help. That's like winning the Powerball and bitching about taxes. Stop. Pretty sure he's continuing the joke from this game thread
  20. Actually not a bad move at all for the Sox. They trade Erik Johnson and Fernando Tatis Jr AND the Padres will eat over half of Shields remaining contract
