  1. Is the loss of Schwarber hurting us yet?
  2. I still think he gets traded to Boston this offseason
  3. Have the Cubs even lost 8 of 9 in the dark days?
  4. So the Cubs have had a late lead in each of the last 3 games and lost? How fun
  5. The one started by a guy who managed to get 4 outs his last start?
  6. Now all our pitchers pitch like Richard
  7. Yeah but our starters suck almost every night. This is an aberration for him
  8. 6 ER for Jake or like what he gave up over 2 months last year
  9. Please decline the ASG all Cubs players
  10. Maybe Gerrit Cole is a very astute evaluator of aggregate baseball talent
  11. If you makes anyone feel better the Braves are teeing off on Sale
  12. Why does it feel like we are leading in a playoff game right now
  13. Miggy hit a home run and Jake is pitching in the 6th inning. What bizarro world are we in?
  14. I know we got bailed out but how many times have we gotten 1st and 2nd with 0 outs in the past week and hit into a DP?
  15. Should this be good enough to can him? If you are the US you don't want someone leading your program that has one foot out the door for what is essentially a parallel move even if England's team has more prestige
  16. I feel like a dominant Jake start could help him get the ASG starting nod. Kershaw is out, Bumgarner is pitching Sunday and out. Collins could either pick his guy Syndergaard but if he's smart he'd avoid playing him altogether. That leaves Jake, Jose Fernandez, Cueto or Strasburg (I just don't see Lester, Colon or Teheran earning the nod). I believe Cueto was the last player picked by Collins so if the players vote influences his decision it would be one of the other 3. Given the players voted early in the season, Jake probably finished 1st or 2nd in the vote, plus he's the reigning Cy Young winner so that maybe holds so value. Going against Jake is that a) his struggles are starting to be noticed nationally, b) Collins might go another direction to avoid 6 Cubs starters, c) Collins has seen Jake twice in the last 8 months and Jake wasn't sharp either time
  17. Obsessing over next years schedule in early July of the previous year? Yep that's something UMFan would do. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-cubs-joe-maddon-schedule-rays-20160708-story.html What they've released Opening Day - April 3rdish @ St. Louis Home Opener - April 10 vs. Dodgers Fenway Visit - April 28 @ Red Sox Maddon faces old team - July 3 vs. Rays
  18. The Cubs were historically dominant for almost 20% of the season. Not just like record wise. Like in terms of how badly we destroyed the teams we played. Even with this bad run, they are lapping the field in RD meaning they are losing a lot of closer games (with a few stinkers) and still occasionally blowing teams out. A lot of losing close games is bad luck. Either bad sequencing, or a scalded ball a few inches away from a double, closer leaving one pitch up, etc. The Cubs have basically lost every single close game they've played since early June. And in this 5-13 stretch, their record in 1 or 2 run games is 1-7. That's really bad luck, even the worst teams on average will win 3-4 of those. Overall the Cubs are so unluckly they are 7 games off of their Pythagorean projection. They should be 59-26, but are 52-33. Almost any team that is 7 games worse than their record would fighting an uphill battle to make the playoffs. The Cubs instead are currently 8 games up in the division. That's how good they are (and how mediocre the Pirates and Cardinals have been, although I guess in a worst case scenario world, the Cardinals would be overperforming their pythag instead of also well underperforming and the Cubs really would be in 2nd) I may spin a different tale when we are all upset during the games, but I still have little doubts that we will come out of this tailspin and soon.
  19. Thanks to the wonders of Google, I have an answer for you. July 27th
  20. This has to be an age thing. I'm guessing you guys are probably 10 years or so older than me, which means you would have been adults when South Park was really popular. i'm 33 and i'm pretty sure south park was really popular when i was in like high school. 32 and South Park came out right before I started high school. I still remember all the commercials on Comedy Central leading up to the first episode. While I'm not a die hard fan, I've seen most of the first 7-8 seasons and an occasional new episode. Your use is just not funny.
  21. I have no choice, I have to hold babies all night when I'm home so its either watch the game or stare at the wall. I can't watch a TV show or something that I need undivided attention for because they are too fussy. Don't envy me too much.
  22. there is much to do this season and things could still turn out great, but this is absolutely the reason last year's attitude of "well actually we're a year ahead of schedule so who cares what happens" was so infuriating. we had a chance to win last year and did nothing in the nlcs. that's a disappointing outcome. every chance to win is sacred. I'd rather take that attitude than walk around feeling crushed that we blew it. Then if we never get back to that point the pain is less severe or at least more spread out.
  23. Let's try to lobby to get Heyward in there. Maybe it will mess up his swing and he will actually be good.
  24. And thus ends SMU's 2 season run of relevance.
