  1. For his career Heyward hits righties about 150 points of OPS higher than lefties This year though he's hitting lefties about 130 points higher than righties. Weird
  2. Lackey is gonna have a short outing with this pitch count.
  3. Dammit. I mean it's good because we get young guys at bats and we are so far up that we can afford to give him all the time he needs, but I love me some Dex
  4. Ron Coomer calling the HR: Look at the hat on that fan in CF. *chuckles* Gosh, it is like a sombrero with a Cubs logo, as contreras hits a lazy fly ball softly to leftish right centerfield....the pirates fielder camps under it and cant make the play. And that will bring up Addison, who is 0-2 with a strikeout tonight. Judd Sirrot calling the HR: And HERE COMES Contreras. SCHUGEL THROWS BACK TO FIRST AND JAVY BARELY GETS BACK IN. Contreras is making his first MAJOR LEAGUE at bat tonight. HES GETTING A STANDING OVATION FROM THIS CROWD WHAT A SCENE CONTRERAS HITS ONE DEEP TO CENTER FIELD AND THE BALL IS TRAVELING A FAR WAY AND ITS GONE WOW A HOME RUN AND THE FANS ARE GOING ABSOLUTELY NUTS!!!!
  5. Looking at that lineup, there is only 1 person that was on the Cubs roster on Opening Day 2015 against the Cardinals (Rizzo). Just a reminder, that lineup was Fowler, CF (hurt today) Soler, RF (now a LF and on the DL) Rizzo, 1B (starting tonight) Castro, SS (now a 2B and sub replacement level for the Yankees) Coghlan, LF (discarded and then brought back to be our 5th OF) Olt, 3B (blind) Ross, C (still Lester's backup guy but infinitely more awesome in the eyes of Cubs fans) Lester, P (now 2nd best pitcher) LaStella, 2B (clubbed by poachers; on DL)
  6. I've heard talk of Rizzo's struggles against leftys earlier this year.... he is now up to .797 OPS against them for the season after being somewhere in the .500's about a month ago.
  7. Much respect to Logan for the streak, but a) Who puts the Cardinals TV station in the Game Thread title? b) And among those people, who would put that FIRST? I don't care which local station St Louis fans will turn to in order to watch their team get beat down.
  8. Nats and Giants are both very good teams. If the Giants top 3 continues to pitch like this into October they will be really tough, but I don't think either team is a true challenger for the Cubs in the "Best team in baseball" discussion, and in October it is a weighted crapshoot anyways so it doesn't matter.
  9. I love Soler and I still think he can be an absolute monster, but I think if you can trade for one of the top 5 relievers in baseball, who is under contract for 2 more years after this one, and he happens to be lefty which is maybe our biggest weakness (LHP in the pen), you have to strongly consider it.
  10. Just looking at some of the Cardinals internet reactions to this series, over the last year their perception of things has changed: April 2015 - Yeah the Cubs are going to be scary, good for them but we still run this division October 2015 - Good season Cubs but this is the postseason now, its our time to shine and yours to fall on your faces April 2016 - Should be a good season but I am not convinced the Cubs are ready to win this division, can't wait to get our shots at them June 2016 - Mother horsefeathers we have to play the horsefeathering Cubs again? FML we can't fall too much farther behind the Wild Card
  11. It definitely helps that he has a 1.4 WAR this year....Wait he has a 1.4 WAR this year? And its not completely held up by defense? Awesome.
  12. Holy crap I thought the same thing.
  13. I can't answer that because I'm biased but I imagine it will go back to arguing between the 96 Bulls, 86 Celtics and this Warriors team. The Warriors excuse is that their MVP was never the same after being hurt but I think this team just didn't look the same as the playoffs went on. As a Bulls fan I will say something like 'yeah the Bulls only won 72, but they then breezed to the title, going 15-3. The Warriors won 73 but it took so much out of them they struggled through the playoffs and eventually fell one game short.'
  14. I think Lackey has started the first game of all 3 Cardinal series. It's like we're just rubbing their stupid faces in it.
  15. Contreras joins Castro and Soler as recent Cubs to HR in their first MLB AB. Am I missing someone else, I feel like I am?
  16. I love warm weather at Wrigley. Richard might have finally put the final nail in his coffin and we still get a sexy dongfest of a RD game
  17. Can't believe the team with the highest single season winning percentage in every sport has failed to win a title in that season.
  18. I'm ready to eat crow on this Cleveland can thank me for this reverse jinx. (Yes that's it. It's not that I'm a moron) I still don't really like LeBron but whatever very happy for Cleveland. They did it in the most epic way possible (non Red Sox division)
  19. Look he gave us some good innings last year. He was really solid so Joe thinks he deserves every opportunity. That's fine but he's running out of chances. He keeps bringing him in for left handers but he can't get any lefties out. That is his ONLY reason for existing as a cub
  20. Cleveland just won a title, it's the year to end droughts
  21. Our fans are awesome I wouldn't be surprised if he's the leading vote getter at All Star catcher next week
  22. 21 game hit streak for Contreras Edit: crap nm I forgot about his defensive appearance on Friday
