    not sure I'd put Jake ahead of Schwarber and probably even Contreras just because of his age and impending $200m contract that's likely if he snaps out of his funk, but you had them in the same group, which I'm assuming means they are nearly interchangeable so no complaints. I would also maybe replace Hendricks with Eloy. I read a blurb from Kaplan that he heard from the FO that they are not looking to trade him and they are sold on him being a superstar. Hendricks has a shot to be a pretty good pitcher but I think because his stuff isn't sexy it will take consistent performance over a 2-3 year span for him to build up more trade value.

    I'm guessing its because Sale is starting and probably only going an inning and Collins wants to avoid too many lefties early in the lineup. Harper is the only pure lefty in the top 5 and he hits lefties pretty well (as does Rizzo but whatever).

    I just wonder what the reason is. Is it an "I don't want to poison my body" type situation? Or maybe a history of alcoholism in his family that makes him overly cautious? I mean, I don't drink much...but it's mostly a taste aversion...and I certainly can't say I've never had a drink... probably an "i was raised by an earl woods type weirdo sports dad" thing that was my thought as well.

    August Fagerstrom at Fangraphs tries to explain the Cubs struggles over the last month: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-cubs-just-played-a-month-of-very-mediocre-baseball/ Really nothing groundbreaking here. His conclusion is that its almost 100% on the starting pitching all inexplicably going through a down period at the same time as the schedule hasn't been particularly difficult, the offense, defense, baserunning and bullpen have for the most part maintained their level of performance through the first few months.

    Well I meant within the Cubs organization specifically not predicting how they would fare in an MLB wide top 50. Like does Eloy have more trade value than Javy Baez? Where would you each of rank them? etc.

    Fangraphs is doing their annual Top 50 trade value feature this week. Anyone with a better grasp of the Cubs as a whole want to take a stab at their Cubs Top 20 (or 30 or 50 or whatever) trade value? Like Fangraphs things like age, contract, ceiling, projectability, all factor into it, but because its specific to the Cubs you can factor in short/long term need, organizational depth, etc. You can include anyone in the Cubs org including the ML team. I think it would be interesting to see the difference in everyone's opinions once you get past Bryant as we approach trade deadline season with the Cubs being serious buyers for the first time in awhile.

    Here we are in July and his ERA is still in the 7's. I'm sure Miller will stabilize and return to respectability even if he doesn't pitch like he did last year (which wasn't even great, it 'pretty good'), but depending on how Swanson turns out this might be mentioned among the worst trades of all time when all is said and done.
