  1. If the Cubs went 10-10 in that stretch instead of 5-15, and they played up to their current pythag (shitty streak still included in RD), we'd be at 90-35 right now, on pace for 117 wins. Of course that's a lot of if's and but's but its fun to discuss anyways.
  2. I'm like super glad you joined our message board
  3. I think they only have to be something like 5 games over .500 the rest of the way to get 102 wins. Yep, 22-17 I really want 100 wins, but beyond that I would love to finish 103-59 or better. 103-59 looks disproportionately more awesome than 102-60
  4. Stupid question but since the Cardinals lead for the 2nd WC spot, that means our magic number for clinching the playoffs would be even lower than 25 right? Obviously the real celebration is winning the division but it would also be nice to know when we officially clinch our spot in the postseason for a smaller celebration. Edit: Just figured it out, our magic number for clinching at least a Wild Card spot is 23.
  5. The recent reports for Kershaw are encouraging (which sucks from a playoff perspective but that's a different story). I'm guessing if he comes back before September and is anywhere near as dominant as he was before he got hurt he will be the overwhelming Cy Young choice for writers.
  6. Winning run at the plate. Come the horsefeathers on
  7. And then there's Heyward the offensive killjoy
  8. God I really don't know which one I love the most. I guess it depends on the inning
  9. Walking the first batter coming off his last game is an on ominous sign
  10. Not very often Len gets that fooled on a HR call
  11. That was freaking awesome. Best non-Cubs moment of baseball watching for me. Mostly with the Rays and Red Sox. On the NL side I still blame Marmol for that Cardinals World Series
  12. According to the data in this article, Chapman is the Jorge Soler of relief pitchers with regards to cold weather performance: https://theathletic.com/17794/2016/08/23/can-aroldis-chapman-thrive-in-hostile-climes-of-fall-baseball/
  13. So we have the MLB ERA leader, NL Home run leader, NL doubles leader, NL WAR leader and reigning MOY, ROY and Cy Young winner on this team.
  14. that wouldn't make any sense is what i was saying every nlds game (in either series) is on FS1/MLBN. they aren't all going to be day games. Last year's AL Series on FOX: Royals - Astros: N D D D D Jays - Rangers: D D N D D Royals-Jays: N D N D D N Last year's NL Series on TBS: Cubs - Cardinals: N D N D Mets - Dodgers: N N N N N Cubs - Mets: N N N N So that's 5 AL Night games vs. 11 day games and 11 NL Night games vs. 2 Day games I'm not sure what the network agreements are, but it certainly seems like they do not have any control over night and day. Last year was unique because the only team in the playoffs that played in the western 2 time zones was the Dodgers and thus they are a perfect fit for the late game time slots . That plus the fact that they were playing a team from the largest media market meant that they got all night games. In the other NL series you had the Cubs so of course they will get night games too. Meanwhile in the AL you had a bunch of teams that were rather 'meh' in terms of National popularity. In addition, in 2 of the 3 series you had a team from Canada, which really doesn't do anything in the US outside of baseball diehards. So I would guess that this year the proportion of day and night games by network is more even.
  15. It's not like he was wrong that it was a concern. Bryant just fixed it. kyle doesn't post here anymore so you dont need to suck his dick every time someone makes fun of him now Wait where did he go?
  16. how about they wrap it up early and the parade is on our birthday? Ahh yes my birthday twin. That's a great idea.
  17. Is he wearing socks with sandals? Is that in now?
  18. Well game 7 of the World Series is on my birthday, I want the Cubs to win the WS in less than 7 but if it went 7 what a nice present that would be.
  19. I was going to say the same thing. I enjoy watching games on FOX more and maybe their strike zone thingie will actually be accurate.
  20. I listen to way more Chicago sports talk than I should and I don't think I've ever heard any Cub fan call for Maddon to be fired after a loss.
  21. I almost responded to it snarkily it was something like: Bryant doesn't deserve the MVP - he only has 2 more RBIs than Russell who didn't even deserve to make the All Star team - every Chicago sports radio caller I was just making fun of dumb Cubs fans What Cubs fan, dumb or not, is going to bag on Bryant and use Russell as an example?
  22. Apparently Aston Villa is also bidding for him. Which one of the 2 is more likely to get promoted this year?
