    One of the problems? That is THE single biggest problem he has. If he didn't have that issue he'd still be subpar but wouldn't be a constant point of discussion.

    Did the Padres change pitchers after the 1st inning or something? This dude is likely to pitch into the 6th inning for the first time in his 8 starts...not something you'd expect when he gave up 3 runs before recording his first out today.

    Reasonably. For anyone else I wouldn't think twice about it being positive or negative either way. But it was fairly well struck, traveled half the distance to the OF and was opposite field. Not bad.

    I've heard a few positive bits. Not on individual players, which is probably whats important, but after killing the Bears for the performance against Denver and the first day of the co-practices with New England, the beat guys went out of their way to point out that the Bears "won" day 2 and maybe day 3. After the actual game, most of the reaction was how well the 1st team played against the Pats with the cavet that we don't know how good the Pats backup QB is (although good enough to torch the Bears 2nd team defense) But you are definitely right, more negative than positive and there really hasn't been anything compelling about this team. There does seem to be a lot of guys banged up as well. All that said, although my initial optimism for the season has dampened with how training camp has gone, I'm not letting anything that I see/hear before week 1 influence me too much. I still think Pace projected this as another rebuilding year, but one that with an easier schedule and some luck could be a playoff team (although you can probably say that about like 28 teams).

    Clemens has made 7 starts this year, in those 7 starts he hasn't lasted more than 5 innings in any of them (actually in 6 of the starts he pitched exactly 5 inning, and in the other one he went 4.1 IP) He faced the Cubs back in June with the Marlins and went 5 IP giving up 4 runs on 4 hits and 5 BB. Addy homered off of him but Lackey was a little bitch that day and got lit up and the Cubs lost.

    Is there another free site besides FanGraphs that has team stats like BB% and Contact %? There was a question asked by someone in a FG chat asking how teams with high BB% and low Contact % perform against better pitching in the postseason, and I was trying to put that together on my own but they don't have splits for only postseason statistics (that I can see). FWIW I used a BB% over 9% and Contact % under 79% as my parameters. The Cubs (10.4% and 76.8%) would be outliers in both but there are really no teams over the last 8 years that have a walk rate that high with a contact level that low that make the playoffs. If anyone cares, the teams that qualify for this are: 2015 Cubs (9.1%, 74.7%) 2015 Dodgers (9.2%, 78.0%) 2013 Reds (9.3%, 78.1%) 2012 Braves (9.3%, 78.0%) 2010 Rays (10.7%, 78.7%) 2009 Rockies (10.6%, 78.5%)
