  1. How dare you insult the Cubs like that....they have a 12 game lead, sir. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
  2. As recently has July 23 he had a 2.57 ERA and a .650 OPS against 29k/9bb in 31.2 IP. And IIRC his FIP was legitimizing those numbers. Obviously in the 5 appearances since then he completely fell apart. Also I think I read here or elsewhere that his stuff is not the same as previous years and the fact that a contender like Washington who has bullpen issues outright released him doesn't speak well. I'm guessing the Cubs do pick him up and give him a chance in the 7th inning role while Strop is out. If he pitches well then he gets a playoff roster spot and can pitch wherever. As far as the clubhouse stuff goes, it could be a bad thing to have him there, but there are so many former Red Sox connections on this team like Lackey, Lester, Theo, Jed, etc that if they vouch for him there won't be any dissent for him joining. I'm not sure if I'm 100% on board with this but at the same time we have the 11 game lead and a potential open bullpen spot to give him a try. If he sucks then we get rid of him and wait for Strop to return.
  3. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/sports/broncos/dont-blitz-broncos-phillips-with-criticism Oooooo Wade Phillips called you out raw And dissed the Bears, those [expletive]
  4. I can't remember which local baseball douche reported this, I think Bruce Levine, but it was reported that the Cubs are seriously interested in signing Papelbon. The Cubs also signed Joe Thatcher to a minor league deal, so its looking pretty clear that the Cubs are willing to sign any currently or formerly competent bullpen arm to try to get lightning in a bottle for the playoffs.
  5. Up 2 runs to start an inning against the lower part of the order is a fine time to put Rondon in. And honesty I thought he has pretty good stuff. He got ahead of the first hitter who admittedly had a hard hit single. Then got ahead of the 2nd hitter who laid down a perfect bunt. And then the HR. he probably should have been pulled after that though before the 2nd HR and the bunch of hits Wood gave up (man he's been bad lately).
  6. I hate how the Cardinals are going to win the WC and instead of nothing to lose like last year we will have everything to lose. Not saying that means we lose a potential series just that it's going to be a lot more nerve wracking than last year and potentially devastating if we don't win.
  7. Yes but no matter how progressive Maddon is, he bends to the wishes of his players and Chapman wishes to pitch the 9th
  8. Ok again, big lead I get it but why does mr .615 OPS hit as the tying run and then you downgrade the defense by putting Soler in so he can hit in the 9th?
  9. He hit it almost 300 ft in the air. That is an accomplishment. Damn was he accidentally using his batting practice bat?
  10. Lmao that it's so shocking to see Heyward hit one all the way to the OF that a routine fly ball is treated like a dong off the bat by the crowd
  11. [expletive] this is where you bring in Soler not groundy mcgrounderson
  12. Everyone be careful if you're on the roads tonight. The cardinals have a day off tomorrow and potentially reason to celebrate.
  13. Again just very fitting as this is the exact same thing that happened 2 weeks ago to Seattle. Splitting a series at home sucks but whatever. Still time to come back and win this one I have to read this to myself a bunch and take some deep breaths. These last two games don't matter at all. Splitting the series is all the work we needed to do. Blowing 2 two run leads in a row really sucks though. It really, really sucks. I get it. I'm annoyed as hell too. Sucks to get great starting pitching 4 straight nights only to blow 2 late leads and split the series
  14. Our starters gave up 5 ERs in 25.1 IP this series and need a decent rally to avoid getting a split at home. Damn pen
  15. That can't happen unless the Cubs tank and fall behind the Nats
  16. I would love to see research about when a team gets out of a bases loaded 0 out jam how they perform offensively the next couple of innings. Momentum at least in this situation is probably a myth but I swear I frequently see teams capitalize when they get out of jams
  17. I haven't trusted him in a game since maybe mid-May but I'm sure there's a ton of stats that say I'm a horsefeathering moron. Has seemed very shaky to me though
  18. Again just very fitting as this is the exact same thing that happened 2 weeks ago to Seattle. Splitting a series at home sucks but whatever. Still time to come back and win this one
  19. Piscotty should have 3 HR tonight
  20. It would be kind of fitting that the last time on SNB we got out of a bases loaded 0 out situation while trailing and then came back to win then have the opposite thing happen 2 weeks later. Fitting but not something I want to happen
  21. That's no good. Heart of the order coming up.. At least his slide ended better than Strops
