  1. Yeah you don't want to meet us jerks. It will sour your impression of the board as a whole. Fred was one of a kind.
  2. Oh snap? Massive shrinkage from the thoughts of facing the Cubs. Well 1/3 of the runs he's given up this year were by the Cubs.
  3. Bernstein was saying on the radio that Sitton was cut from GB partially because he was a disruption in the locker room because of his contract and eventually culminated in a fight with Clinton-Dix that "turned racial"
  4. If anything, it would have to be named after BacktoBanks. Shoot it wasn't SweetSwingingBilly who called Jim Hendry's office to tell him to make a specific trade? The one who then passed away a little while later?
  5. exactly how i feel. would hate losing to them most, but compared to having to face madbum or thor (granted they should only have to face them once), i'll take their guys. That reminds me...maybe I'm just nitpicking at this point but what the hey, he also mentioned that Carlos Martinez has quietly turned into one of the NL's top 10 pitchers. WAR - 2.8 (18th in NL, behind 4 different Cubs starters) xFIP - 3.95 (19th in NL) FIP - 3.65 (14th in NL) ERA - 3.05 (12th in NL) K/9 - 7.56 (19th in NL) BB/9 - 3.26 (27th in NL, slightly ahead of Jake Arrieta) He is very good at HR suppression though, 2nd in the NL at 0.63 HR/9 and leads baseball in GB% at 57.2%, but those don't seem like top 10 pitcher in NL stats overall.
  6. The sentimental part of me realizes that he retired after ripping through the league after he got Jurgen'd in 2014, beat Dempsey's Sounders in a great conference final and won MLS Cup and wonders why he would come back to spoil that fairytale ending. Coming back for a random 2 months nearly 2 years after retiring...how effective is he going to be, even off the bench? This is notwithstanding LAG ignoring their academy products that can't get a game in. I don't believe Bradford Jameson or Jack McBean are going to be less effective that a 34 year old LD with two years worth of rust. I suppose, thought, if anyone in US soccer history has earned the right to do whatever makes him happy it's LD. Retiring from pro sports is hard. MJ had his fairy tale ending vs Utah and came back to play for the freaking Wizards. Brett Favre with the Jets and Vikings. Ryno came back after 2 years or retirement....Magic Johnson... It doesn't make the things they did any less special. Except for Favre. Yep, I imagine that every time he watched soccer on TV or when calling Copa America he was reminded that he is still good enough to play at a high level, but in 3 years he might not be and will never be able to play again. If I was a retired pro athlete, I would feel that pull every single day.
  7. i actually remember it pretty well, and I am not one to remember crap like that or dwell on it. but it was our 10th straight postseason loss and i did not loosen up until that glorious soler dong in game 2 (along with garcia pissing all over himself). http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/94951848/v521078083/cardinals-tommy-phams-first-postseason-homer/?query=pham+nlds The only thing I remember about Game 1 was Dexter Fowler hitting that warning track shot with 2 outs and a man on that I could not believe did not go out based on how it looked off the bat.
  8. I'm guessing it sticks out in his mind like Geovany Soto's HR in the 07 NLDS sticks out in my mind as a brief awesome moment within a [expletive] ass series And Dero in '08. Yep that too. But i would never think to bring up those HRs in a discussion with fans of other teams because they would have no clue what the hell I was referring to
  9. Yeah I literally have no idea what he's talking about. I remember Heyward's homer against us and then....nothing except the donging of Cubs I'm guessing it sticks out in his mind like Geovany Soto's HR in the 07 NLDS sticks out in my mind as a brief awesome moment within a shitty ass series
  10. I also love that he lists Tommy Phams "big"HR against the Cubs last year as one of the memorable postseason moments of the last handful of seasons and I have literally no recollection of this HR.
  11. Sounds like Vogelbach got the call to the show today. https://twitter.com/hyphen18/status/775396746411188224
  12. Will Leitch whines about the Cardinals http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/200905218/st-louis-cardinals-mlb-mike-matheny
  13. In the thread, Al mentioned that his vote would be for Hendricks, so I'm guessing all the votes are from people who live in fear of being banned from the comments of BCB.
  14. BCB asked who everyone's favorite 2016 Cub is and the results are interesting I guess. Most things at BCB suck but there is a sheer high volume of responses so interesting to see. #mildlyinteresting
  15. PFF changed their grading system which is annoying but here are their (free) released grades Good to see Sitton (and Long) graded well, and on defense seeing the 2 biggest FA signings in Freeman and Trevathan have a good showing, along with 2nd year guy Amos.
  16. Now we just need CubbieBum and yanrslatr appearances
  17. I'm fine with letting the chips fall where they may but yes I'd prefer a night celebration at Wrigley. The only thing that sucks is not controlling our clinch destiny. The Cardinals head to the west coast starting thursday so all of their games are later than ours meaning if we fail to clinch in our game, we risk the Cubs officially clinching at like midnight from a Cardinals loss. That will set up the still awesome but slightly less 'celebrate after the next game' scenario. If that happens, I hope we can at least win that game this time so we don't celebrate after a loss. We'd control our clinch destiny, because we clinch if we win though... In the scenario where we take 2/3 in STL, I mean. true, bad choice of words, not clinch destiny. I just meant that if we by some act of god failed to beat the stupid Brewers on Thursday we risk the Cardinals clinching it for us in the middle of the night.
  18. i just realized that wednesday is a day game. i don't want to clinch at 3 pm on a wednesday when i'm at work. please lose one.
  19. Had the same convo with my wife last night, except she knew who he was from me going to several Cubs games with him in the past. I referred to him as 'that older gentleman' and she immediately knew who I was talking about and was sad for me.
  20. CUBS are 91-51 (.642) overall CUBS are 13-4 (.765) on Mondays CUBS are 6-4 (.600) in September CUBS are 6-7 (.462) vs. St. Louis CUBS are 38-18 (.679) vs. NL Central CUBS are 18-12 (.600) when they've won their last 1 games CUBS are 35-11 (.761) in games that begin a series CUBS are 50-27 (.649) at night CUBS are 40-31 (.563) on the road CUBS are 63-35 (.643) vs right handers CUBS are 16-10 (.615) when Hendricks starts http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/Hornkohl/cubs-slug-cards.jpg Go CUBS !!
  21. Great to see the game thread forum changed. Now can we rename another forum "SweetSwingingBilly Transactions Forum"?
  22. Apparently Jake had the flu tonight and considered it a big accomplishment that he made it into the 6th inning. That would probably explain the lack of velocity and wildness in the 6th
  23. That's an awesome idea. Whenever we decide to do it I'll be happy to contribute a tweet. Yes absolutely fantastic idea. Let me know when and I'm in
  24. So when Bama, FSU and OSU all lose road games to ranked opponents Michigan is #1 right? Ok no way Bama loses but I could easily see the other 2 going down
