  1. Don't know at all if someone has called him that but it was an on going discussion/joke in June when Arrieta was struggling to pitch more than 5-6 innings.
  2. Whoa whoa. He's walked guys, but this isn't "bad Arrieta". 5 walks in 5 innings is pretty bad Yes but 2 hits in 5 innings is pretty good. I would say Mehrrieta
  3. You're going to wake up tonight and just find Hendricks staring at you from the foot of your bed. I was only being formal. Plus Jake is still the WAR leader on the staff with 3.7 to Hendricks' 3.0 WAR hasn't found a way to account for the awesome intangibles that Hendricks brings yet.
  4. :-k Just a term to encompass the Jake that doesn't have his best control and is forced to labor and rack up a high pitch count earlier in the game. I'm aware that with his PC jake could go 7 today due to an efficient first 3 innings.
  5. Well the return of 6 Inning Jake is an unpleasant surprise but at least he's kept it under control except the HR. But I'm a little more nervous that we are going to see this Jake pop up in the playoffs.
  6. When your command has been off, I guess you aren't going to get those close pitches more often than not
  7. Yeah its hard to draw conclusions as you said. The Cubs 'slumped' to a .330-335 OBP team in June and July (assuming you can draw a conclusion that higher OBP = more pitches seen per AB). During that period they disproportionately played a lot of good teams and faced a lot of good starters and the schedule was road heavy. Now they've spent almost 6 whole weeks at home and have played some bad teams.
  8. Man I hope we don't get No Command Jake in the playoffs. I would presume that regardless he will get out of it with weak contact but it will still make me a lot more nervous watching the games.
  9. 5 of his 11 against the Cubs. Came into today with a .345/.486/.828/1.314 line against the Cubs this year in 37 PA and a .211/.324/.389/.713 line overall
  10. He spent about a 3rd of the season walking people but stranding just about everyone. Lately when he's walked people he's been getting burned and his ERA is hurt as a result. I never ever ever expected a HR to be hit there or even a run scoring.
  11. So much for being cocky THAT [expletive] AGAIN
  12. Come on Jake go back to being efficient and not walking people
  13. I watch the Brewers expressions and body language and most of them seem resigned to their fate. Like they come up to bat knowing they are going to get 1 run at most for the game. They hit a weak fly ball and look nonplussed and they begin their meaningless trot towards first base.
  14. Thanks Braun, pissed it didnt go out though
  15. Yeah the beat guys were saying before the game that Joe had a conversation with Miggy about his role on the team today which I took to mean that he might be catching once every 5 games if that and might not be on the playoff roster. Joe said it was a good conversation.
  16. Believe the Cubs have scored in the 1st or 2nd inning in 6 of their last 7 games. And in that other game they scored in the 3rd.
  17. Well you don't break up that second line, right? Hossa taking on a diminished role? Vesey-Toews-Panik/Hossa Panarin-Amnisimov-Kane I'd have to look at the roster again to put together a 3rd line
  18. Shouldn't any MVP projection that gives Jay Bruce a 1-in-20 chance of winning the award be immediately dismissed?
  19. DONT WORRY Schwarber didn't tear his ACL and LCL again Anyways.. [tweet] [/tweet] Which gif is more appropriate? http://i.imgur.com/SF8MzIP.gif or http://i.imgur.com/7drHiqr.gif?noredirect
  20. I guess I understand it. I think Joe likes having S, R, L, S in the top 4 so it gives him great match up versitility. Regardless of a LHP or RHP you have 3 of the first 4 hitters in a favorable matchup (and Bryant and Rizzo both have about an .880 OPS against like handed pitchers). There's the contact hitter hitting after the first wave of mashers component of it too but Zobrist has hit 4 SFs this year and grounded into 14 DPs so it probably hasn't been a big benefit there. I do agree that his .385 OBP and ability to have long ABs to make the pitchers work is something you'd like a #2 hitter to have, maybe Joe will move it around before the season is over.
  21. I don't know where to quickly find launch angle statistics but I'm guessing from the numbers on fangraphs he's increased that this year. His GB/FB rate has gone from 1.46 and 1.42 his first 2 seasons to 1.09 this year. Last year he hit fly balls 29.8% of the time, this year 38.3%. Last year 13% of his fly balls went for HRs, this year almost 20% are which compensates for his hard hit % actually dropping this year.
  22. And the other 3 they led going to the 8th. Close. They were tied going into the 8th on Saturday. Gave up the tying HR in the 7th
