  1. Not to mention the fact that he was pretty much the ONLY presence in game theads in Sept of 2005,2006,2009,2010,2011,2012,2013,2014
  2. 3.32 in 10 starts since the All-Star break. You're right that 2015 Jake is not here, but the one that is isn't so bad. Yeah not bad at all. There was a time where I thought we had to have ace Jake to win it all but I'm far past that point. He can be a solid 2nd or 3rd starter and we have a great chance of winning his playoff starts
  3. I met Fred and a few others through this site way way way back when (2005-06 timeframe?) and it was certainly a memorable experience. How cool was it to meet THE stats guy from NSBB at a Cubs game in real life!? He was an amazing person to share a Cubs game with. Very sad news. Yeah I remember he'd call me at like 9am on a Saturday and be like "hey I've got Cubs tickets come on down to the park and let's go" and I'd be like "ugh Fred I'm kind of hung over" but I couldn't say no and was always happy I went.
  4. 4.32 ERA over his last 13 starts. Should we just accept that were not getting God mode Jake and hope he has an extra gear for the playoffs?
  5. Perhaps you should pick up where he's left off. Pi, send him Fred's famous spreadsheet. You will probably have a couple months worth of data to update but then after that you should be all set
  6. Fred with some NSBBers (including me) after what I'm pretty sure was a Cubs win in 2009
  7. I'm so so sorry to hear that. Fred was a great guy and as strange as it sounds made you feel like a really good friend the first time you met him. RIP to one of the key people who made NSBB the great site it is. And sorry for your loss Pi, please let your family know that he had a great community of online friends who will miss him dearly. Also you mean 1851 right?
  8. Remember when it was jarring if Jake gave up a single run? Not saying he's not good but it sucks that's he's only a top 10 pitcher in the league now
  9. Yeah only 20-30 times this year for the Cubs
  10. Good work by jake. Thought it was going to be one of those 6 inning 108 pitch outings where we walks 4 but only gives up 1-2 runs but he's gotten it going over the last 3 innings, altuve bloop HR aside
  11. So, is that a productive out by Almora? Ill give it to him only because he crushed it
  12. Lmao. Singles, second on sac fly, 3rd on error, scores on wp. Love you Javy
  13. Ross is awesome. Jake missing a lot low. Command isn't there again so far
  14. So does this game start on ESPN2 since the US Opem championship match won't be over by the time the game starts?
  15. https://twitter.com/coachdelrio/status/775090806881476608
  16. I mean he's literally been the GM for 17 games and he inherited an aging team virtually void of young impact talent. I'm not saying you should say he's doing a good job so far but I'm giving him more than a year and change before I deliver a verdict on him. hes been gm for a hell of a lot more than 17 games. He's been gm for over a year and a half. He hired a known horrible game manager as head coach and has had two full drafts and two offseason signing periods. Plus two camps. In the NFL, that is enough time for a good gm to make a team good. Not great, but good. This team is doing the same [expletive] it did 4 years ago. He's had 17 games to show results. So far the results aren't good enough but I liked his FA pickups and this is the 1st game we've seen a 1st round pick of his play. I would have rather gone for a young assistant over fox because he's old and clearly has issues but I don't think he's a disaster hire so I think that's where you and I disagree. If at the end of this year the Bears look bad still, white and Floyd show no signs of being stars, freeman and travathen don't do much to improve defense and the offense continues to struggle because they failed to replace their good RB and TE among other issues I am fine with saying pace is not good
  17. I mean he's literally been the GM for 17 games and he inherited an aging team virtually void of young impact talent. I'm not saying you should say he's doing a good job so far but I'm giving him more than a year and change before I deliver a verdict on him. Edit: and to clarify, I'm not giving him a ton more time. I expect to see at least a couple of these draft picks prove themselves but I think 1 game into his second season is not necessarily fair to him.
  18. Meh. Not the game it self, just watching the pass rush knock jay on his ass 15 drop backs in row
  19. This is embarrassing
  20. Maybe but there might not be a worst matchup for a team that's breaking in 2/5 guys on their line. They were simply worn down over time and now Houston is having their way
