  1. Yeah but I don't think that's because he cant', he was probably asked not to push it when running the bases. Which is what would happen in the World Series as well. If Schwarber is on the roster, he won't be there for a haircut or to run the bases.
  2. He wasn't exactly booking it to second but decent enough speed for him to get 2 bases on balls that would be a double in most situations. He just advanced to 3rd on a bunt but he was mostly jogging. And now gets to trot home casually on a HR.
  3. Schwarber will probably only get 1 AB unless Mesa hits around or they blow their 3 run lead. Make it count!
  4. Good eye. He swung and missed through one pitch, not sure if it was offspeed. And he rolled over on another swing that went foul.
  5. (This is where the image of Schwarber rounding the bases with Salazar looking upset would go if I could find one that isn't Getty)
  6. Twice right into the shift. Solid contact though. I know Theo and Co will evaluate based on more than just results.
  7. Seems like Schwarber is the only one not hitting this dude haha
  8. I am guessing it was weakly hit too because it managed to advance the runner on 1st to 2nd.
  9. Schwarber grounded out on the first pitch in his first AB
  10. Of horsefeathering course this is who's table Jesse photographs and tweets out
  11. Source? This sucks if true. But I guess I can stop getting all excited when I see my open Gmail tab go from "Inbox" to "Inbox (1)" in hopes that it's good news from the Cubs. Source is various people on twitter, nothing confirmed officially but there were several people that got emails
  12. Every time I see or think about these videos, the song is stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Now thanks to you I will be hearing about scooby doo ghost towns and economies based on lebron james
  13. Things you learn when your team is in the World Series: There is a World Series Media Day.
  14. He's medically cleared for that already. I mean, I don't think you have him stealing bases...but no reason you can't have him mash. I understand that, but given the severity of the injury with the time elapsed from the injury, I'd err on the side of caution with an asset like Schwarber. I said this yesterday and I'll say it again. Here are the facts: 1. The Cubs can win the World Series without Schwarber aka they don't "need him" to the point where they'd rush him back and risk reinjury 2. That said, the Cubs chances increase if Schwarber is on the roster over someone like LaStella even when rusty 3. Theo has been extremely transparent with regards to Schwarber's timetable and to me has given no indication that he is the type of person to rush someone back before they are ready 4. Doctors will not clear someone to hit and jog the bases if there was a chance of reinjury 5. If there was a chance of re-injury there is no reason to believe anyone would approve of him playing 6. Playing a soccer game is not the same as swinging a bat 7-8 times in a game and jogging the bases in mostly straight lines 7. There have been instances of players returning from torn knee ligaments that include the ACL after 6 months and playing much more demanding sports
  15. He's been facing live pitching every day since he was cleared last Monday I believe.
  16. IMPORTANT Found out on twitter that they already did the WS drawing and notified the winners ONLY. Sale for tickets is at Noon CT (20 mins from now) SO CHECK RIGHT NOW. Make sure you sell me a ticket at face value for notifying you.
  17. I never thought I'd be obsessively following an AFL game in late October like I will this afternoon. Don't get me wrong, I like knowing what's going on in the AFL, but never because it has such an immediate impact on the Cubs.
  18. Expect Kyle to use this ammo to explain why Theo's administration has been a giant failure if the Cubs don't win the World Series this year.
  19. I'm not sure if its been posted in any of these threads, since we want to keep the positive energy. I wont quote or hyperlink, but the posts on WSI - Cubs subforum (For some reason this exists) have been so butthurt and boderline suicidal lately. I don't know if they've actually gone out of their way to do this or they are just trying to sound cool, but several of them are talking about how they bought Indians gear on Sunday in preparation for the World Series. Not only does that sound stupid in general to buy another team's stuff just because they are playing a rival of theirs, but its the freaking Indians, division rival, and I'm not sure how bad the rivalry has been lately, but as recently as the early-00's were hated rivals. So I think about the other side of things, a very similar situation happened in 05 and I never once bought, thought about buying, or even had a passing through about the prospect of buying Astros gear. They too were in-division rivals, although the Astros never had a particularly strong rivalry with the Cubs other than a couple of individual seasons like 98, 03 and 04. I just don't get that mentality.
  20. [tweet] [/tweet] This ought to rile White Sox fans up
  21. Read the article linked above. Sounds like his timing is a bit off especially on offspeed stuff but bat speed and pitch selection seem to be there. I agree it looks like he will be back but I don't think its a lock just yet. Also of note: Schwarber is 0-4 with 4 Ks in his career against Kluber, and last year he stated that Kluber was the hardest pitcher for him to hit in his rookie year: Maybe that won't matter, but that seems like a difficult assignment for him with so little time to hit. I think Schwarber makes the roster but is not in the lineup for Game 1, but will be DH in the other 3 potential AL games, and available to PH late in Games 1,3,4,5. Just a guess.
  22. List of all 73 home runs hit in the playoffs by the Cubs: http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/event_finder.cgi?post=1&type=b#gotresults&divisory=1&from=button&type=b&suffix=_post&team_id=CHC&event=23&out_type=&ajax=1&submitter=1&z=1 Top 5: Schwarber - 5 Alex Gonzalez - 4 Rizzo - 4 Aramis - 4 Fowler, Bryant, Soler and the great Frank Demaree - 3
  23. They are obviously trying to stay in his good graces to score tickets.
