  1. I'd be stunned if Heyward isn't playing RF tonight. Given that the Cubs are 4-41 lifetime against Kluber, Maddon is likely to put his best LH hitters in there with correlated splits. Bauer and Tomlin are inverse splits LH/RH so expect Contreras in LF when Montero catches Jake. In fact, I see it this way with what the Indians are doing: Game 1: C, Ross - LF, Zobrist - RF, Heyward Game 2: C, Montero - LF, Contreras - RF, Zobrist Game 3: C, Contreras - LF, Zobrist - RF, Heyward Soler cannot hit when it is under 50 degrees. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxoMbEZbXZc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyWmL0ENdxI Not sure if you are trying to debunk the claim that Soler can't hit when its under 50 degrees, but Game time temp for Game 2 in St. Louis was 70 degrees and for Game 3 against the Mets it was 72.
  2. I mean, I know the Red Sox and Blue Jays are not the Cubs, but the Indians are undefeated in the playoffs when Kluber does not start.
  3. God I hope people don't actually try to start a serious rebuttal on my "Lackey fake injury, LaStella pitching in the world series fake injury to become position player" idea.
  4. TLS will surely be available in the series after game 4 when Lackey fakes an injury to be taken off the roster. a pitcher may be replaced only by a pitcher Well then he will have to pitch to a batter in order to make it legit. Then you can say something like 'well he hurt his arm pitching to that batter but it turns out he's actually like passable as a position player - for a pitcher'. Which everyone will believe after watching him attempt to be a position player.
  5. http://mlb.mlb.com/images/1/1/6/154439116/101315_nlds_schwarber_homerun_statcast_medres_bq4qks7r.gif that made me cackle when I read it this morning.
  6. How long have you been a Chicago sports fan? I can think of PLENTY of decisions much worse than that. That said, there's no logical reason whatsoever to think Javy wouldn't start tonight... especially with Lester on the mound... especially with knowing the Indians are going to run every chance they get and that Javy is the best tagger in the history of the game. But, hey, kudos on the hyperbole! Benching a guy who's hitting everyone well and playing otherworldly defense to get Chris Coghlan in the game at 2B would be top 5 dumb, which is what I was referring to. that was a joke. No one is considering benching Javy and especially not for Coghlan. Fans of other teams that come to the site to see our pre-game 1 discussion will be appalled to find out this was being discussed.
  7. LaStella is not on the roster. yeah, but how do you know for sure he won't play? TLS will surely be available in the series after game 4 when Lackey fakes an injury to be taken off the roster.
  8. LaStella is not on the roster. And I think they will stick with Javy at 2nd considering how much the Indians like to run and Baez's elite game changing tagging ability.
  9. So sounds like the lineup would be Fowler, CF Schwarber, DH (my fingers tingled as I typed this) Bryant, 3B Rizzo, 1B Zobrist, RF Baez, 2B Contreras, LF Ross, C Russell, SS Completely guessing on the order of the last 3. I thought maybe Maddon would bring back his "second leadoff hitter" in Russell from last year. The only thing that sucks is that its a lot of righties at the bottom of the order. Kluber doesn't have extreme L/R splits but obviously fares a little better against RHB.
  10. I'm nervous, but a completely different kind of nervous than last round. Last round, losing would have been a tremendous disappointment. Losing this round would suck but not as badly. I'm not exactly satisfied to only get to the World Series, but I do feel like regardless of what happens in the WS we accomplished something this year.
  11. Schwarber might not dong a bunch of times, but he's a good bat to have for several reasons: 1) The Indians have 2 lefties on their entire pitching staff, both in the pen. In terms of matchups, adding a left handed power bat is a good thing 2) Schwarber is good at pitch selection and taking a walk when needed. Even if he isn't hitting well, there is value there, which is important because..... 3) The Indians will absolutely pitch Schwarber differently than someone like Soler or LaStella or whoever because of his power profile. Yes they know he has about a week of live hitting, but they also know his prodigious power. If he comes up in a big spot after Miller has been used, they are going to pitch to Schwarber more carefully than they would any other option for the Cubs. Even if he isn't hitting horsefeathers, he is smart enough to work the count and either take a walk, or put himself in a favorable hitting situation that even a rusty hitter can take advantage of. So yes even a rusty Schwarber brings significant value to the Cubs lineup IMO. If he looks completely lost for 2 games, then fine relegate him to PHing the rest of the series. It's absolutely worth the risk IMO, especially with the way Soler has looked lately (who I'm assuming would be the other option at DH)
  12. Hmm...this is interesting. Glad you guys got your title! Cubs are next.
  13. To put that in perspective, the worst PK in the league is around 75% ish by the end of the season. Just setting up for not allowing a goal on the PK from about New Year's until the end of the season. that might put them at about 75%
  14. Should find out in about 3 minutes whether Schwarbs is officially on the roster....
  15. Hawks are now 9-23 on the PK this year after 2 more PPG allowed tonight. That's a 39% PK rate. How is that even possible?
  16. I really wish Grant was a Cubs fan and Al Yellon was a Giants fan
  17. Morosey just lost his credibility when he just suggested that Schwarber would replace Soler on the roster
  18. The Cubs would be quick to pull the trigger on him DHing if he looks lost out there and strictly use him as a PH. And timing issues or not I think there is some value to bring a guy with his power profile out to PH. Not only that but he is not afraid to take a walk. Pitchers will pitch him differently than they would a LaStella PH appearance because they fear the fact that he might hit one 450 feet.
  19. Schwarbers AFL Line: .167/.375/.333/.708
  20. less optimistic report of his double:
  21. Hmm...I know you have inside dirt, but that seems odd to hit him second after not playing for 6.5 months and facing a pitcher that struck him out 4 straight times when they faced each other last year, and there are several other options. It also seems odd that they would have already made a final decision on Schwarber, much less settled on a lineup. But that said, awesome if your source is right!
