  1. My brain is still in postseason mode. I'm thinking "well at the very least we made him throw over 30 pitches, he should be less sharp if he has to go out there again tomorrow"
  2. Actually kind of feels good to be frustrated at baseball again for some reason
  3. 6 outs away from our 5th shutout in our last 13 games
  4. The guy the Cardinals stole flies out to the guy the Cubs stole
  5. Ever since that 2 run rally in the 10th inning of game 7 of the World Series, the Cubs offense has gone to crap.
  6. Did they really skip the Cubs intros or are they randomly letting road team be introduced last or not at all? Edit I guess they are going second
  7. bukie, I and others have said this already but one final thank you for putting this list today. Looking forward to reading these and rewatching the clips made the last couple months of the offseason go by quicker.
  8. Well Bulls, Miami and Indiana tied for 7-9th spots. Bulls own the tiebreaker over both so technically in 7 seed. Jokes about how bad the Bulls are against bad teams, they have 0 games left against +500 teams. Their last 6 are against New Orleans, New York, Philly, Brooklyn, Orlando and Brooklyn again.
  9. Probably because people like to be creative in their game thread OPs.
  10. Going through some of the "expert" predictions for the season. This part was my favorite (spoilered for large image): 3 of the 6 experts pick a Cub to win MVP, and they each pick a different one and none are last years MVP who is a Cub as well. Edit: Also, one guy chooses a guy who is the Cubs franchise leader in postseason HRs and has a .412 career World Series batting average to be their NL breakout hitter
  11. Don't mind him, he assumes everything will fail miserably. Right again - clearly I'm the only one with concerns over this issue. Grouping yourself with Derwood is always a good idea
  12. No, but if you work at night and forget to start the new one before you go to bed, you shouldn't wake up and already have lost your place. There needs to be some reasonable time allowance dude its just a thread, is it really a big deal if you don't get to create it in time and someone else starts it? The only time it really matters is when tree or butters are creating it because they have magical game thread powers.
  13. I can try to keep up with it but I can tell you right now I won't be consistent with it, particularly nights/weekends.
  14. The Cardinals are going to be paying a catcher over $18 million for his age 37 season.
  15. Definitely a hit people forget about. I remember I was just happy that we got the lead back that inning and wasn't really expecting anything else when all the sudden Willy crushed one.
  16. In most prior postseasons that move would be unthinkable, but there seems to be a trend in baseball, based on statistical evidence, to avoid having your pitchers face hitters a 3rd time around the order. Hendricks was cruising but when Santana came up it represented the 3rd time around the order. When Santana walked, Joe decided he wanted Lester (LHP) to face the lefty Kipnis, who was probably their hottest hitter at the time. Joe was going to pull Hendricks no matter what after the 5th it sounds like, he just did it 1 out earlier because a tough lefty was up.
  17. At Bat: CubmanPi (0-0) On Deck: The Logan (0-0) In the Hold: haubrich91 (0-0) Rest of the order: tree (0-1)# jersey cubs fan (2-1) Sammy Sofa (3-1) David (2-2) UMFan83 (0-2) OleMissCub (0-1) Derwood (0-1) Duke Silver (0-1) Andy (4-1) bukie (2-1) SouthSideRyan (1-1) sweetpeteman (0-1) soccer10k (3-1) Heyward Fan (0-1) Ding Dong Johnson (0-1) philosophizer75 (0-1) Liam Neeson (1-1) *if necessary # still our World Series hero
  18. Panarin is threatening to again get his max bonus by finishing top 10 in points. Here is how things look with 5-6 games left for most teams: 8. Burns (SJS) - 73 points (6 GR) 9. Malkin (PIT) - 72 points (6 GR) 10. Draisaitl (EDM) - 71 points (6 GR) 11. Seguin (DAL) - 70 points (6 GR) 12. Panarin (CHI) - 69 points (5 GR) 12. Tarasenko (STL) - 69 points (6 GR) Then 11 guys with between 65-68 points.
  19. Lawrence Holmes on the Score was on yesterday with some Pittsburgh sports station to help them preview the Cubs. Obviously, he was saying good things about the Cubs because, well, the Cubs are really good. The Pittsburgh guys took offense to this and said the Cubs bought a title. I don't know if they think that we're bothered by their attempts to demean our title. I really don't care, we won.
  20. Criticize how the team is built 5 months after they win a title because of it? Do you think Cub fans are still hurt the Cubs sucked badly from 2010-2014? Didn't we just have like the 8th largest recorded gathering in human history after winning the title? They weren't there to boo the Cubs for sucking for several years to get to that point (except Kyle I'm sure). The plan could have backfired, the Cubs could have been mediocre for years after missing on several draft picks and trade targets and Theo could have been run out of town as a disgraced baseball executive. But that didn't happen...probably because they hired the best baseball executives and baseball operations people they could, invested in state of the art facilities in 3 different places (Wrigley, Mesa and the DR), poured resources into their development system, basically did all the things needed to do to build an organization, not just a collection of highly regarded young talent. I don't blame fans of other teams for only looking at the tanking portion and determining that the cubs only got good by sucking to get talent and then spending a ton of money in FA, but obviously anyone who takes a closer look will see that the emergence of this ballclub as a juggernaut went way deeper than that.
