Passing Arizona and Colorado for the Wild Card is actually pretty helpful. Obviously the goal is still the division, but having a fallback option is never a bad thing. Yup. Len brought up a good point. Would you rather play the Dodgers in a best of 5 or best of 7? Obviously winning the division is best but his point was a team as Vaunted as the Dodgers its easier to win the shorter series I think its obvious a best of 5 would be preferred. What's everyone's take on the Dodgers in general? Obviously they are playing historically well, but am not significantly more concerned about playing them verses someone like Washington for example. Maybe I should be? -
I feel like Bryant could lose his arm in a horrific accident and only miss 1 game.

lol BrewerFan.net's thoughts on the Cubs: Which really poor players are taking ABs? Heyward? He's a starter anyways. Lets call Bryant, Rizzo, Baez/Zobrist, Russell, Contreras, Schwarber, Jay and Heyward the nominal starters. Russell you can say is replaced by Baez and Zobrist. You know, last year's NLCS and World Series MVP respectively. Contreras is replaced by Avila, who has a .900 OPS in his first 50 PAs with the Cubs. Bryant I would guess will be back in the lineup today. Lester was replaced by a guy who pitched 6 shutout innings yesterday and in general has been more then adequate as a 6th starter. And what about depth behind the replacements? LaStella and Happ are now the IF backups behind the Zobrist/Baez combo. LaStella has a 1.2 fWAR in about 330 PAs as a Cub over 3 seasons and Happ has a 1.3 fWAR as a rookie this year. Behind Avila is Rene Rivera who is one of the best defensive catchers in baseball. I guess the one thing you can knock the Cubs on is that they don't have a decent swingman/long reliever replacement for Monty. I gotta be honest with you guys, I'm not particularly worried about not having a decent long reliever for the 2 weeks that Lester will be out with arm fatigue.

And +64 run differential in 37 games. Over a full season, that is +280 RD, which is a 114 win pythag record, just slightly off the Dodgers historic pace this year (on pace for +282 RD). The Cubs run differential last year was +252. Not a bad quarter of a season.

Of those 12 losses, only twice did the Cubs not have the potential tying run bat in the 9th: - a 6-2 loss in Arizona where the Cubs scored 2 in the 9th and Zobrist struck out to end the game with runners on first and third. - a 11-4 loss to the Cards that the Cubs led 3-2 in the 8th this horsefeathering game. damn you CJ! edit - meaningless thing i just noticed...we're exactly halfway through the post ASB "second half." so basically if they maintain that pace they go 25-12 again for 93 wins. nice edit: only cool kids will get this

Again, division is by far the focus and we're doing pretty well there right now but the Cubs are now percentage points ahead of the Diamondbacks for the 2nd Wild Card spot (if we weren't leading the division).

We've been back since the All-Star break. Just had a weird week or two. 25-12 and the best offense in baseball since the break along with much improved starting pitching. Sounds like we are back. (Yes I was the moron that made a comment about the Cubs not being on fire in August like they were in 15 and 16 like a week ago. The lesson as always is that I'm a moron)

The Athletic is pretty great when you finally cave for it. I still can't believe it's doing as well as it is though...really didn't think their business model would work in this day and age but they obviously knew what they were doing.
