  1. That's payback for the game last year when the Cubs were 1 out away from winning twice and lost it
  2. I don't care if the pitchers are Monty, Butler and Arrieta, I demand a sweep in Cincinnati
  3. That's how you finish a multiple run 9th inning comeback you losers Season saved!!
  4. Im sure Lester is not thrilled with being lifted after 90 pitches
  5. Seeing that last All Star update thing makes me realize that.......there is a better than 0 chance that Jason Heyward is our only All Star. Bryant, Rizzo and Davis all deserve consideration, but NL 3B include Justin Turner, Nolan Arenado (the likely starter) and Anthony Rendon who all have comparable or better cases than Bryant. At 1B, Freeman (injured), Zimmerman, Goldschmidt and Votto all have strong cases. That said, since Joe has input I'm sure Davis will at least make it. Edit: nevermind looks like Heyward got jumped in the OF. The 2016 champs might have 0 starters in the ASG, and only Bryant selected because the Cubs need a rep.
  6. Why is it dumb if he can return by this weekend? Might as well get it all rested up rather than take the risk that he reinjures it or makes it worse. There's only 9 games left until the AS break after this, just rest him until then. It's not like anyone is going to run away with this division if the Cubs struggle.
  7. holy crap i had no idea he was even struggling. The last time I heard cardinals fans talking about him it was about how he is one of the best SS in the game.
  8. this freaking team makes everything look difficult
  9. 1st inning runs allowed are becoming a thing again. The opponent has scored in the 1st inning in 5 of the last 6 games.
  10. Sometimes its fun to just not watch the game but follow via the game thread and try to figure out what the horsefeathers is going on. I thought it was like 3-1 Nationals after catching up.
  11. Late on this but absolutely positively do not believe anything from the Sean Sears guy. Based on following his "reports" from the last year or so I am 100% convinced that he has no sources and makes things up. I cannot think of any specific examples at the moment but he's reported things that have been hilariously wrong and things that were obviously wrong even when he reported them. He's also big on tweeting "My sources are telling me the same thing" when legit reporters report something.
  12. Thank God, I was worried that if he went on the DL he'd go on an epic bender and never be seen again.
  13. i mean, almora and jay wouldn't remotely have surprised me. Yeah just those 2, but those 2 plus Candelario and Happ. Means some 4 person combo of Schwarber, Zobrist, Heyward, Russell, Javy or Bryant out of the lineup, who were all in our game 7 lineup.
  14. I hate him and Judge and Seager and all the other young bats deemed sexier than our young bats.
  15. Who would have thought back in March that we'd have a meaningful game lineup with Jay, Happ, Almora and Candelario in it?
  16. After the 3rd inning the Cubs outscored the Nats 4-3. I like to pretend those first 3 innings were just warmups and the Cubs won the game.
  17. That made me chuckle Oh and don't worry Zagunis, still 46 hitless ABs from tying Lester's major league record.
  18. I'm not really sure why Lackey is swinging away here. If it's a good hitting pitcher sure, but put yourself in a good position to score that 3rd run damn. I know you're still down 3 but the chances of Lackey having a productive result swinging away are poor
  19. Oh and guy we were hoping would give us gold glove caliber defense in CF is slow as hell Edit: Not that Almora should have gotten that, just seeing him bounce off the wall reminded me of that
  20. Lot of holes but I can't help feeling like this is the worst case result of this team. 2 of our starters turned into pumpkins, another 2 have missed large chunks of the season on the DL, the last one has been good but ERA 1.5 runs higher this year. Currently have 3 starting position players injured, a player we were counting on for all star caliber numbers is in Iowa, defense has regressed, have gone from an abnormally low BABIP against to a higher than normal one, etc. The pen has been the absolute strength but even there our lockdown closer in 2015 is pretty much getting mop up action these days
  21. Seriously DFA Lackey when Hendricks comes back. I'd rather have Butler in the rotation
  22. I dunno, maybe Carl just recently learned about DC's dinosaur museums
