  1. I agree its easier said than done, but the shift certainly isn't causing more true outcomes, is my point. The players that get the shift applied on them are the hitters that are unlikely to alter their approach...and those are the hitters that tend to be the true-outcome-heavy batters. There are reasons to want to get rid of heavy shifts, but this aversion to true outcomes shouldn't be one of them. It would lessen the 3 outcomes though. How many times have we seen Schwarbs and Rizzo hit in to some crazy shift on the right side? Certainly if teams weren’t allowed 3-4 infielders over there some of those ground balls and line drives go through for hits. That lessens the HR-BB-K outcomes. ...how? The alternative to a hit thought a normal shift is an out into a heavy shift. In both cases, the HR-BB-K totals remain the same.
  2. I hate not allowing shifts. Unrelated to the main reason that I hate banning the shift, heavy shifting should incentivize batters to just put the ball in play by altering their approach. That should also reduce true outcomes. If it was that easy “to just put the ball in play” I think we’d see it more. It’s just not that easy. Some guy would go hit .380 if it was that easy to flip the ball the other way when 3 guys or on the other side of the IF. And in my scenario you still could shift. It’s just with 2 infielders per side and not 3-4. I agree its easier said than done, but the shift certainly isn't causing more true outcomes, is my point. 3. The shift sucks too and should be banned, or at least curtailed. 3B/SS need to stay on 3B side of 2B, 2B/1B need to stay on 1B side of 2B and OF can’t come in past a point to avoid still doing a 3 infielder thing. It’s not that hard to legislate and would lead to more hits/action. I hate not allowing shifts. 4. He has caught 86 of 100 innings so far and has a history of wearing down at the plate when he gets overused. Long season, gotta take care of the catchers. His chances of getting HBP twice or thrice after he pimped TF out of the HR last night are also fairly high.
  5. Kind of seems like his plan to overwhelm Augusta may not work that well. Yeah he hit to a lot of horsefeathers today and his approach/irons and putting are horsefeathers. He miss hit a ton of approach shots by 5-10+ yards, which for these guys is enormous. Not having the green books I think greatly affects him since he’s such an information and not a feel guy. He’s still too talented and a hard worker that he likely wins a Masters at some point but think it’s a few years away. I think he's 6 under par since you've said this.
  6. Or just connect your laptop to your tv with any number of cords/converters? Or cast to it? Etc?
  7. They interviewed the guy after the fight and it's reattachment. He was aware it was snapped off. He didn't tell anyone because he "thought he had the guy."
  8. Can we put that in the Cubs general thread? They are losing 3-0 to the Rockies there.
  9. A flaming car careening off of a cliff is technically a type of blaze of glory.
  10. That makes sense if you assume the Cubs will and are currently making good decisions.
  11. OSU/Purdue losses are really going to hurt my "fade Baylor" strategy.
  12. If anyone is itching for some +EV action, Draftkings has a March Madness pool with 2 million guaranteed in payouts (1 mil to first) and it almost certainly won't get enough 100 dollar entries to meet that 2 million pool (at just over 7k entries at the moment). They are offering some pretty heinous deals (to me at least) to get it to fill. Might want to check it out if you're a degen.
  13. My interest in chess has been mostly in the last five years or so. Is Leko roughly equivalent to Giri now? Leko was the Giri of 10 years ago, but with slightly better results. He won the candidates in 2005 to challenge Kramnik for the title in a best of 14 match. He was up a point heading into the final game, but lost. Ironically for Leko, the match resulted in a draw, with Kramnik retaining the title. It wound up being a kind of neat match, as openings were constantly being switched around, as both players were especially capable within lots of different systems and were trying to avoid the other's prep. I always thought his chess was on the dull side, but he was an amazing player, and everyone seems to like him.
  14. I was tickled that the most notorious draw-master of the oughts was this up in arms over a very stylish draw. Just added to the absurdity.
  15. Peter Leko: not a bongcloud fan
  16. I've been watching WAY too many youtube videos on swing mechanics and working to rehaul my swing at ranges when the sun peaks out, but we just got a foot of snow a few days ago so I guess its another slow-motion breakdown of Akshay Bhatia's swing for me. I re-did my swing several months ago and went into a period where I was absolutely terrible. Finally, I feel like I am getting the improvements I want - I was borderline good yesterday. Did 18 holes Saturday. Absolute trash, apart from approach. Irons were WAY longer and pretty straight, apart from 1 in 4 that I was pulling left, which is the opposite of what I used to do. Driver was so poor I considered just hitting 4 irons instead, but stuck with it. Never got better.
  17. The question is when should you get relief from a divot in the fairway? It’s not black and white. Up until you see any grass growing in the divot? What stinks is that a player rakes a sand trap, which is a hazard, so the next person in it gets a good lie, but you can get terrible lies in the fairway. The rub of the green they say. I don’t think there’s really a question, you should always get relief from a fairway divot. It makes no sense why you shouldn’t. Just get the standard club length that doesn’t put you closer to the hole/improve the lie (going from rough to fairway). Treat a divot like a sprinkler head if the ball is in it. I think if you're in the fairway, you should get to do whatever the hell you want to the ball, so long as it doesn't put you closer to the hole, or change your approach angle. Reward good shots.
  18. I have had zero spare time for about two months now but I havent' given up on it. As soon as I can, I'll get back out there. 19. Effort and execution are impeccable.
  20. makes me wonder what would happen if a javy slide met a javy tag? A rip in the spacetime continuum. JUUUUUST in case you all hadn't seen this yet: [bbvideo=560,315] [/bbvideo]
