  1. You can't manage perfect. Gonzo's error was the biggest blow by far. Putting in Veres in Game 7 was an abomination, but not as big of a goof as Gonzo's error. I thought most of the responsibility hung on the players.
  2. The Cubs finally got to Santos. He has a 2.50 ERA lifetime vs the Cubs. Nice game.
  3. Well he induced a taylor made double play if it hadn't been for Gonzo. The pen was average. A tired Prior was better than the pen.
  4. Grantd Wood throws too many pitches, but it doesn't hurt that he has the mechanics of a little leaguer also.
  5. The Cubs did not lose to the Marlins because of Dusty's managing. The Bartman play, Gonzalez's error, and the lack of a pen were much bigger factors. Dusty is not a good in game manager which is part of the reason they haven't been back, but I won't put 2003 on him.
  6. The Cubs hadn't been to a World Series in a while. I betcha this GM would have done the same thing as Dusty in 2003. The problem is that Wood has bad mechanics and he hasn't been willing to change them. I am beginning to think Prior is a wuss because he hadn't known what pain was before he got to the big leagues. All major league pitchers fight through pain and Prior is going to have to do it if he wants to start 30-35 games regularly. He actually said that - that he understood why dusty did it and that he nearly went to the WS by doing it. Just making the point that they may be paying the price for it now. Well then you can't blame Dusty for overusing them in 2003.

  8. Here it is http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-0604130232apr13,1,3796473.story?coll=chi-sportsnew-hed&ctrack=1&cset=true
  9. I am not sure if the article is online, but the Chicago Tribune has a huge special today on whether the ball is juiced.
  10. Why is Bynum on this team? Did he have a good spring? I liked that big righty that hit well in ST.
  11. Saturday's game was the first highlight I have ever heard Andy Mazur call. There haven't been many homers hit in the 7th. So someone won, actualyl 2 days in a row, the WGN homerun giveaway right?
  12. Not in the Izzy household. :D Am I too young to get your joke?
  13. I was at Applebee's and I went from yelling out loud with no one else in the restaurant to screaming when Barret homered. Great game. Instant classic?
  14. I am so glad the Cusb won afte that totally crap call by the ump in the 7th. Didn't even ask for help. But Barret's ball three was cloe. ESPN showed it just out of the zone, but most pitchers get that call
  15. Why were Rusch and Neifi bad signings? Neifi hit about as good as you can expect for a sub and played gold glove defense. Rusch is an adequate 5th starter on any team and long-reliever.
  16. That was a good call by Dusty. Neifi has good numbers against the pitcher and had a bunch of hits. Now if he will just play Pagan in RF if Jones is sumping terribly 2 months into the season. To pinchhit Maybry a few days ago was a great call also. I guess Dusty knows he might get a contract extension so he is actualyl managing wiht his head screwed on. But folks it is early.
  17. I read in some box score that Dempster had a save yesterday. Is it the scorer's decision if it is a 4 run lead?
  18. Isn't that what the home field advantage is all about?
  19. Good. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2006-04/22822661.jpg
  20. From the pictures from chicagotribune.com are the new bleachers the same color as the old ones? Form the pictures I have seen they stnad out like a sore thumg.
  21. How the heck did Arizona get on MNF?
  22. Neifi might not have been a great second baseman last year, but he was arguably the best defenseive SS in the league last year. Good range, got fielding percentage, few errors.
  23. Gagne was on steroids
  24. The Bulls got the Knicks pick. With this draft getting two players early won't help much. Too bad it's a terrible free-agent year. But they Bulls need to get that 7th spot to avoid Detroit first round. Great job Skiles and the whole Bulls team!
