  1. I am not sure if this has been discussed yet, but B/B on the SCORE today mentioned that amphetamines are an ingredient in 1 of 2 of the main drugs used to treat ADD. Would this new ban effect Eyre or could he get a waiver because he uses the pills for medical purposes? If the league says yes it could open the doors to an array of other people trying to get behind the new rule.
  2. Was anyone listening the the SCORE today with Murph where he had on a local Chicago businessman who wanted to buy the Cubs in '81 and actually outbid the Tribune Co. and is interested this time around too if the Tribune Co wishes to sell? What was the jist of the interview?
  3. I rememebr this summer when Cuban said he'd like to own the Cubs....I about fell out of my chair. Big time payroll does NOT equal a good team ala this year's Cubs. I wouldnt mind Cuban being the owner, but you need quality playes, not just big time money players.
  4. Would that make Derek Lee the best overall hitter in the league?
  5. I am watching the Sax game on WGN before the game got on ESPN because of the NL game and the color was fine. Then when it switched over to WGN and ESPN the WGN color went fuzzy. Did ESPN do that on purpose to get people to watch it on ESPN and catch their commercials? Are they allowed to make the WGN feed off-color?
  6. Honestly, in your guys opinion, who is a better manager, Tracy or Baker? Also, what about Pineilla comign here? Steve Stone on the SCORE said that the current regime would never hire him. I would love him. Next I would try to pick up Joe Girardi. Don Baylor is also available as hitting coach (JK).
  7. how to turn around the Cubs." That's what an 8 year old kid who I know said to Jim Hendry at the Cubs' hotel in Pittsburgh over the weekend. A friend of mine took his son to Pitt and stayed in the Cubs' hotel. They got every player's autograph including the announcers except for Nomar who only signs 10 per day during his pregame routine (and if you thoguht his between pitch routine was superstitious his pergame routine is even crazier. He does the same routine before every game to the T including ONLY signing 10 autographs). They got pictures with Derek Lee and some other guys. All the Cubs were friendly. So the kid talks to Hendry at the hotle and tells him to get Damon and Furcal. Hendry said "I'll work on it!"
  8. I saw him at Sandberg's ceremony? Has he gotten any votes? Is he worthy?
  9. Would he ever get into coaching?
  10. A half game better than the Cubs. I am crying.
  11. When Wood pitched in the playoffs in 2003 and looked unbelievable. I told myself the Cubs HAVE to sign this guy long term. He was throwing heat and had a nasty hook. Even with all of the pressure one thing looked different: he body stayed together during the windup and his mechanics incredibly comapct. Why can't he do that again? When Wood throws against his body he doesn't open up his hips and shoulders enough. He doesn't point his left foot toward homeplate. Granted this is hard, but when I pitch I like to have my left foot aimed directly at home plate and my right foot headed in that direction too. THis is hard to do on the mound, but that is how I pitch. So is that Wood's problem, he needs to open his hips up more so he doesnt throw against his body?
  12. Man, Bruce Miles chatting. I rememeber the good old days on the ESPN board with davemason saying Bruce Miles just announced such and such trade and now the real thing is here. Whatever happened to goonygoogoo9?
  13. Sorry, I havent read this whole thread, but the Pirates are giving one million to the Cubs. So this was a player for player trade with even money? WHy would the Pirates do this trade?
  14. Macias has a good average, but on the radio today even Pat and Ron were berating him and many other Cubs for not running out plays. Macias didnt run out his bunt today and even Pat was all over him. You can feel the fever picking up with Ron cause he is beginning to yell again.
  15. How many more years is Wood signed for at 10 million? If he gets 10 wins this year I will be happy. That's 1 million per win. And boy he sure changed his mechanics simce his DL stint.
  16. What did he do to start that big brawl a few days ago?
  17. North is a GREAT interviewer and he adds something different to the station. B/B know their stuff most of the time, although they do have their favorites. I love Buffone cuase he knows football. The SCORE is not afraid to tell it like it is. When they get all the Sox games next year it will get even hotter. Murf is GREAT. The only real Cubs fan except Offman on the station. He was an original bleacher bum.
  18. Boers and Bernstein said today that Wood and Garland have similar numbers coming into 2005, yet Woody is heralded as an ace and Garland had to prove himslef in 2005 just to stay with the team another year. Wood definately has better stuff, but his injuries have kept him from becoming the pitcher he could be. But the fact is that Wood is at the top of the league in K's, opponents average, and usually walks unfortunately. He has been on the DL what, 8 times? Their W/L records are similar, but I really believe that Woody has had more bullpen blown games than Garland (take Woody's first start back, Rusch comes in, first pitch, homerrun, tie game...which is why there should be a rule change that if you are a reliever and give up the lead you can't win the game, the starter should). I can't believe B/B relied on the W/L record to size up the pitchers. Woody wins in WHIP and ERA drastically up until this year, two of the most important stats for a starter. W/L tends to explain offensive production more than how good a pitcher is. That said, Garland looks like he has turned the corner!
  19. Anyone see the Bulls game tonight (4/5)? Nocioni on Wade, who tried a three, faked out Noc' who landed on him hard. Wade kind of held him there for a second which made Noc shove him and then Haslem came and threw him into the first couple rows. Noc got a flagrant bu the Bulls just sent him to the locker room anyway so nothign else would happen in a blowout. I thought Wade faked him well and Noc' had to land on him. For Van Gundy to say that Noc' the role player shouldnt foul great players hard like Wade is wacko. I didnt think it was even intentional. Haslem only got a T I think also. Weird calls. The APsaid: In the fourth, with Chicago lurking and down by just 11 after a 22-10 run, Wade had consecutive baskets to push the margin back to 15 — and join Glen Rice as the only players in Heat history to record three straight 30-point games. The game had an ugly ending. Haslem was ejected with 2:52 left after retaliating for a hard foul committed against Wade by Nocioni. Wade drove into the left corner and was fouled hard by Nocioni, who then struck Wade a second time — this time in the back, knocking him to the floor. Haslem charged toward Nocioni and shoved him, sending him sprawling over some cameramen seated near the baseline. Nocioni was called for a flagrant foul and a technical. He was not ejected, but was escorted off the court by Bulls team personnel.
  20. OK I think that worked. Thanks!
