  1. JOKES AND JOKES AND JOKES
  2. CubinNY reporting live. "Bob Nightengale chipped in with a note that, if John Henry were to allow Epstein to head to Chicago, they would ask for significant compensation in return." That's from the fangraphs article and also reported about 5 pages back. Bandon's point proven, again. Also reported that there is respect between the 2 and he wouldn't hold him back from going elsewhere.
  3. And you're 200% wrong. So, because I think Ryno should be manager and you don't makes me a troll? Well done. No. Because you keep saying things like "He's paid his dues" and "It's called buying what the manager is selling." Not to mention citing his hall of fame career as a reason he is qualified to be a manager. That's 430% of the reason!
  4. CubinNY reporting live.
  5. You know who else Pat Gillick brought in because he was a bright mind? Chuck LaMar. Philadelphia one-stop shopping!! TRUST IN OVERLORD GILLICK
  6. Is it better to give Ryno the job simply because he was a really great player and a lot of people like him? If you take away the name and consider a man who's been a minor league coach for 5 years total and compiled a 364-341-1 record, is that a guy you're really clamoring for? Dew: I am clamoring for a guy that will not put up with the circus atmosphere players have created here. There is also zero chance Ryno gets on the podium after a game and refers to players with cute names such as: "Wellsie, Marms, Byrdsie etc. when they are getting whipped every day. He understands the game, knows how to teach and just so happens to be a hall of famer. He also will not condone bad baseball and chalk it up as: "We'll get em next time". He will correct it if he sees it. Love it.
  7. Welcome to 48 hrs ago. Joel Sherman's been very busy the last 84 hours.
  8. Give Quade a chance. He's paid his dues and knows the game inside and out.
  9. Huh, just checked out Lackey's contract. The Red Sox have a team option at 500K if he misses any "significant time" to elbow injury from 2010-2014. That's a fun little quirk.
  10. Don't worry imb, I got the joke.
  11. 5 steals in 14 games is a 57 SB pace.
  12. I'm sure in a couple of years the NCAA will mandate this for basketball too. ETA: Does the Summit League have a TV contract?
  13. Really? I need to explain why it's a bad idea to trade one of your 2 most valuable assets for a GM who you admit isn't even your #1 option?
  14. I think there'd be somewhat of a split in that scenario (which I imagine has about a .01% chance of happening) If it wasn't another "cursed" franchise with a long-ass drought, I could see that being the case. But Epstein breaking both droughts would garner him a hell of a lot of attention and praise. Only a former Cubs hall of famer like Sandberg could get anywhere close to equal credit for the turnaround. I'd argue even Francona wouldn't get the equal billing.
  15. Trading Garza or Castro for a GM is hilariously not the right thing to do.
  16. 9-5, but it was 14 games. Not really anything to read into. ETA: Lee OPS around 1060, and 5 steals(??) at that point.
  17. GM visibility has grown a lot in the past decade or so, and if Moneyball wasn't made into a movie, I'd say Epstein was the most well-known GM.
  18. This is somehow a worse idea than WSR's. It was hyperbole, but I don't see any reasonable compensation getting in the way if that's what it takes.. Certainly depends on the definition of reasonable. It's not as if Epstein is the only upper echelon GM out there.
  19. This is somehow a worse idea than WSR's.
  20. Who loses more games next year A&M football having to play in the SEC, or A&M basketball getting to play in the SEC?
  21. 2 losses in the SEC isn't so bad...
  22. I thought Neil O' Donnell retired.
  23. Hopefully he came down with a case of death.
  24. Ahead of the Dallas WR who ran out of bounds (with no defender near him) 12 yards shy of the 1st down on 4th and 20?
  25. Minnesota-Purdue as a national broadcast.
