  1. jesus. If Koyie was solid I guess Geo will be winning a unanimous gold glove. He went on to rip Geo's D why? because he had a lot of errors? Geo is a better catcher in every aspect. Because he's better on offense
  2. Lets do what the White Sox did and trade for him, and give the Sox Soriano straight up. The question is, when trading for a GM, who are you striking the deal with? Maybe he'll trade himself to the Cubs for Soriano, Zambrano and their full contracts and send A Gon and Lester with him. I'm not sure Boston's ownership would sign off on that.
  3. I'm not sure I'm ok with paying Epstein 145M to come here.
  4. I don't think it makes a difference whether Quade is there or the position is vacant as long as there isn't a GM. Say the new GM doesn't take over til November 10th. You think with Quade, a potential manager would jump on the Nats job, but if Quade was gone, they'd wait around to see who the Cub GM is and whether they can get an interview?
  5. I'm not crossing anyone off the list until Will Carroll says they're coming.
  6. Pointless, yeah, because no GM in their right mind would keep him on. I don't understand how this is supposed to be a hindrance to the GM search. I view it the same way I view holding on to tradeable commodities at the deadlines, just in case the new GM wanted to bring back a Jeff Baker or Carlos Pena, or whoever.
  7. There's really no benefit to firing him immediately either. He's not hurting the team by remaining as manager right now since the season is over and there's not going to be a managerial search until the new GM is hired so his being around isn't impeding that. I agree with CCP that Ricketts is probably waiting for the new GM to fire Quade and hire someone else to give that new GM a chance to evaluate Quade along with other candidates. There is a benefit to firing him immediately. You let it be known very clearly that the manager's spot is open for the Cubs next year, to lessen the risk of letting the right guy go someplace else. There is nothing to be gained by keeping him, because he is a completely incompetent moron with absolutely no clue. You can let the new GM be the guy who fires him, but that's just a disingenuous gesture. Not to mention it burdens the new GM with an unnecessary deed. Just clean house and let him work on hiring people from day 1 instead of having some false "evaluation period". You don't think the manager position would come up in any talks with a potential GM?
  8. They were 0 for 1 in 5 game serieses that year.
  9. I'm guessing Francona would want a little more than the $9.50/hour Reinsdorf would offer.
  10. But at how many years do you walk away. Even 3 seems borderline to me.
  11. I'm not saying he absolutely would have caught it, (I'm not sure he'd get the glove open and at the right angle to secure it) but you're acting like he wasn't even in the area to catch it.
  12. We are? My opinion. Beane is already being ruled out He is? He would? Based on?
  13. What? Him trying to deke the umpire into buying it's a ground rule double means he wouldn't catch a ball he was close to?
  14. Our fans want the starting OF to be Campana-Johnson-LaHair
  15. You'd find out more about the Cubs offseason plans by reading the Williston Daily Herald than Carrie Muskat.
  16. Stuy's wife's employer has an opening, but you better hurry an unemployed and presumably homeless Treeman (who may or may not have finished his degee at Illinois) is hot on the case. Tree managed to drop out of both undergrad and law school. A real overachiever.
  17. I agree, and Nate alluded to that in the first sentence. I was just calling out Kyle. He didn't allude to it, he said it wasn't rigorous math. It wasn't that the math wasn't rigorous, it was flat out wrong, and pretty surprising coming from Silver.

  19. That's because 95% of people who listen to and call into sports talk radio shows are morons. Particularly on the day after, when knee-jerk stupidity is at its highest level. Heh, yeah, they're definitely not like us winners who post on internet messageboards. He didn't say we're cool, we're just not morons. (I am cool though)
  20. Nobody gives a [expletive] about the White Sox
  21. Please stop using so many big words.
