  1. ITT: Cardinal fans act like Cardinal fans.
  2. I HATE trying to play defense down 2-3 points with less than 50 seconds left. Even if we stopped Missouri there, we have 9 [expletive] seconds to set up a 3 point shot. Extend the game.
  3. Serious question, your sanctions are over next year right? With regard to P12 Championship and bowls?
  4. Is there a line somewhere where I can bet on the Mets finishing in last in the division?
  5. Then sell the team. Owning a business isn't a guarantee for profit. If you're losing money, get rid of it, or accept that you're going to lose money on your toy.
  6. They'll look at and disregard. You honestly think an arbitration award has ever taken FIP into account? Why wouldn't an arbiter consider advanced metrics? Because the people hearing the cases aren't advanced baseball minds? You understand how this works, right? The team submits an arbitration number, and then presents evidence to support how/why their number is in line with the precedent for comparable arb-eligible players. The player and his agent do the same to state their case. The arbitrator then picks whichever number he feels is fairest, based on the evidence presented to him by both sides. WHOA WHOA WHOA SLOW DOWN. I don't understand such big words
  7. [expletive], I was interested in Marquis back when I thought he'd cost 2/10.

  9. Joe Saunders: 4.78 FIP 2011, 4.65 career Travis Wood: 4.01 FIP in 2011, 3.75 career I was looking at standard ERA, the same way an arbiter would. If Joe Saunders had the ability to maintain his 2011 ERA, then he wouldn't have been non-tendered and he'd be *way* better than Paul Maholm or Jason Marquis. I'll concede that.

An arbiter looks at whatever evidence is presented to him. They'll look at and disregard. You honestly think an arbitration award has ever taken FIP into account?

  12. :-k Doesn't "market" pretty much mean "the same as a similar guy who's available as an FA"? Anyway, he won't. He'll be paid less than a similar guy available as an FA. Right, he'll be paid market, not more than the market It's a matter of opinion, but right now we're looking at Joe Saunders '11 type #s based on people's projections in this thread. Joe Saunders who was non-tendered because he'd be overpaid compared to what a Paul Maholm or Jason Marquis will make in FA. And that last year, I find it hard for someone to argue he won't be paid market, considering that last year of arb is compared to the market rate.
  13. I'm confused - who are you talking about with this comment? If it's Wood, as I think, then I agree and that's why I said the higher upside prospect would be much more cost efficient than Wood would be when the Cubs are actually trying to contend again. Wood. I keep hearing about 5 cost controlled years when in reality it's just 5 team controlled years, with a couple cheap ones and the rest will be very expensive. Even if he's mediocre he'll be awarded a lot of money in arbitration. That's why non-tenders exist. Exactly how much do you guys think he's going to be getting in his last two arbitration years that are more than the market for a pitcher like him? It's not more than the market, it's that he'll be paid the same as a similar guy who's available as a FA, defeating the purpose of having him as a "cost-controlled" asset
  14. Well if we can dump Byrd and Garza, we could get it down to about 85M
  15. Quade killed him last year.
  16. Who cares about pitching depth when your team isn't going to be any good? Who cares about one year of a relief pitcher when your team isn't going to be any good? You can absurdly reduce any move down to "why? the team isn't going to be any good." That doesn't mean the Cubs shouldn't make moves; especially moves for young, cost-controlled starting pitchers. Maybe you weren't serious. If so, yeesh. Nobody complaining about the Marshall trade is saying we should've kept him in order to win 61 games instead of 59 next year. They're saying they should've traded him for something better than "5 cost-controlled years" of a back of the rotation starter.
  17. In theory, communism works. In theory. Communism works in theory if you believe in the power of the repressive state. Shame on those who still believe in that. Also waiting on the prospects, though I doubt they will amount to much. Still love Theo, though. KBBL's going to give me something stupid! What a bunch of clowns.
  18. There are enough stone age GMs left that a guy with a .309/.348/.467 line with a good clubhouse rep will almost certainly cost more than 1M. Especially considering how early in the offseason he signed. So all this gnashing of teeth with no idea what the deal is? Didn't he sign a minor league with us last year He signed a minor league deal after putting up a 650 OPS. You'll find that none of us care about him signing a minor league deal. You'll also find that he did not sign a minor league deal.

  20. I'd rather have Montanez backing up the corners than Johnson.
  21. But Miami has Battier now.
