  2. Not in November 2012, no. When at least 4 of the starting rotation spots are already taken? At the very least, Shark and Vizcaino should be above Wood. The front office is also showing they can pick up decent pitching on one year deals in most offseasons, too. You're missing the point. I'm not saying, gee I wonder what the 2014 roster will look like, it's that we're not building toward anything. If the 2014 rotation is Shark, Wood and one year flotsam we aren't going to try to compete until 2015 which is ridiculous.
  3. November 2011, I don't think you found many people on here who could imagine throwing away 2 years either.
  4. Not in November 2012, no. When at least 4 of the starting rotation spots are already taken? "Taken" in the sense that the players are set in stone? Well I guess it's possible they convert Garza to a closer, but yeah, I'd say I'm rather confident 4/5th of the rotation is set in stone right now. ETA: Unless you're talking about a potential Shark trade, in which case Travis Wood or a guy who has maxed out at 110 innings is our #1 in '14.

  6. Doesn't it concern anyone that our current 2014 rotation has Travis Wood as the #2 starter?
  7. Dirty play. Cutler is classless for instigating the defender. He even drew a taunting 15yd penalty, so he's careless too and a total moron too. Oh geez. It was dumb, but hilarious. That missed the best part of that shot with Cutler's smug grin as he walked away.
  8. Hahaha yea it'd be a bit late to start now Perhaps PR was the wrong word. Loria has one remaining marketable asset. And who better than Cubs fans to recognize what a superstar hitting towering home runs can do for attendance and merchandise sales? There may also be some slight need to placate Bud Selig by not making a complete and utter mockery of his franchise (if he hasn't already). Superstars hitting towering home runs are much more of a financial engine in Chicago than Miami. The impact for the individual team wouldn't be as big down there, and the same for the impact to the league as a whole. Sammy Sosa hitting 66 Home Runs is much more exciting for MLB if it's happening for the Cubs than it would be for the Marlins. Stanton is massively under appreciated and not very well known by the casual MLB fan base. If he was on the Cubs, he would be one of the biggest and most well known stars in the league. Yeah keeping Stanton will probably help the Marlins attendance by roughly 9 people.
  9. How many wins did Ohio State's opponents have this year? They would've hit the lottery all the way to the NC game this year. edit: 70 but that's high because off the top of my head I know IU and Purdue's win totals include an FCS team each, I'm sure there are others I think he only discounted games won by the FCS opponents the SEC teams slaughtered, not opponents' opponents
  10. I'm actually starting to waver on how much I want Pinkel to stay. 2012 would have been a disastrous year for any coach, but I do think there's reason to believe the program peaked in the Cotton Bowl five years ago. hypothetically, who's a realistic hire that's an improvement over Pinkel? Probably some guy with SEC roots who has a ridiculous name.
  11. Those #s equal a 7-5 B1G win
  12. Minnesota @ Florida St. (Florida St.) Iowa @ Virgina Tech (Iowa) NC State @ Michigan (Michigan) Maryland @ Northwestern (NU) Nebraska @ Wake Forest (Wake Forest) UNC @ Indiana (UNC) Purdue @ Clemson (Clemson) Virignia @ Wisconsin (Wisconsin) Michigan St. @ Miami (Michigan St.) Georgia Tech @ Illinois (Illinois) Boston College @ Penn St. (Penn St.) Ohio St @ Duke (OSU) 8-4 B1G
  13. So why should we try this year when we can just lose 96 games and get another high draft pick
  14. Re-sign Ramirez Sign a couple of useful veteran relief pitchers to get the bullpen to average Put the best players on the roster from day one (see ya, Clevenger, Mather, Volstad). That'll get you to.500 right there, and you can still do the Rizzo trade and the Marshall trade and sign Soler and draft Almora. Who are these veteran relievers? And again, if those things happened, congrats you've won half your games, don't have Pierce Johnson, Arodys Vizcaino, Christian Villanueva, went bfrom picking 2nd in this draft and IFA budget to probably in the 15-18 range, missed the playoffs, and have two seasons of Aramis Ramirez to show for it moving forward. So we're back to have a better than 50 percent chance out be as bad as possible for high draft picks
  15. Whichever one involves being Iowa
  16. Do it for me.
  17. Too bad OSU is on probation. If there was an ND/OSU, ND would be favored by like 12.
  18. Let me drink your tears IU fans
  19. Who unbanned Hosak and let him use dew's user name?
  20. How will the Cardinals be good in a few years if they don't have our financial heft and are going to have a bad farm system since they'll be good the next couple years?
  21. FINALLY
  22. The Cubs had a higher ranked system (according to BA) as recently as 2011. ETA: And the year before that, the Cardinals were ranked 29th.
  23. They must've been bad for a long time to build that up.
