  1. You bring this up frequently. I don't get it. He seems like a pretty common football junkie to me. Certainly not a Rhodes scholar but guy can coach some football. I meant any job, not necessarily a football job. I used to hang out with him back in the day, and he was dumber than a bag of hammers. What you meant to say was you hung out with Bob Diaco.
  2. Mike Gundy rumors are starting to heat up a bit around here. Apparently there are power struggles out there, but he's an alumni of OK St and T-Boone Pickens has endless money. I doubt Gundy goes anywhere. If I had to guess, based on rumors and media reports, I'd put the chances of UT hiring Strong at about 60%, Jimbo at about 30%, Mike Gundy at about 5%, and everybody else below that. How about Gruden?
  3. I really wanted to see Luck throw a block on that game winner.
  4. Illinois is 13! in the AP poll ETA: 14 in the coaches poll
  5. Maybe they're opertaing on dual fronts for real.
  6. Absolutely nothing. They are going to get massively exposed on January 7. Your little tantrum about ND fans saying ND will probably lose by 7 rather than a bajillion is cute.
  7. It especially hurts to happen to Ironman Hamilton.
  8. USA Today claimed that was an entry error on their part, that has since been corrected. I choose not to accept their story.
  9. Last thread's probably deadish by now, but can we talk about Bret Bielema not realizing the difference between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and instead being the only guy to vote for one(at 11) and not vote for the other
  10. Alabama was up 20 with 21 minutes to play at home. I never said they would stop trying, but what's Ole Miss' win probability after that touchdown? What does win probability have to do with the strength of Bama's D?
  11. Injured Tim Tebow is better than healthy Mark Sanchez
  12. You're just pulling things out of the air now. Oh? They were up by 31 and 27 when they gave up touchdowns to Michigan. They were up 20 when they gave up one of two touchdowns to Ole Miss. They were up 28 on Missouri, 17 on Tennessee and 38 against Mississippi State. You don't think the situation of the game affected the way their defense played? Hahaha, we're discounting a 2nd quarter touchdown to Tennessee that cut the lead to 10?? You think Bama stopped trying with 25 minutes left against Ole Miss?
  13. Bama gave up 17 garbage points all year.
  14. And B prospects are more likely to help a team than a guy who is good at the major league level now.
  15. Absolutely. That said, if we get offered a couple of top 20 prospects from an average system for him, I'd just hold onto him. If we get a young major leaguer with upside or a prospect package at least as good as the Dempster deal, trade him. If not, what good does it do to get rid of him? Soriano is a sunk cost. He's not a sunk cost if you can get some salary relief from his contract. Why is covering all of Soriano's contract to get a decent prospect an acceptable usage of money (as opposed to say getting 5M/year in salry relief) whereas "overspending" on a FA by 5M/year is unacceptable?
  16. After coming off the DL batters put up a .199/.332/.301 line against him. He had a 60/29 K/BB over 44 innings.
  17. Are the people who have issues with "overpaying" in free agency ok with eating all of Soriano's contract to get better prospects?
  18. As I said earlier, I'd go 2-3 years on Hamilton. Or even 2-3 years with a couple of club options. But I absolutely would not go beyond 3 guaranteed under any circumstances. Then you're not serious about signing him.
  19. Mark Grace was the real heart & soul of those teams. He didn't wear batting gloves, smoked cigarettes. A real throwback when DUI laws weren't ruining this country.
  20. I'm trying to think if the Chicago writers would be more likely to vote for Sosa or less likely. If it's more likely, Sammy might not make it to the 2nd ballot. Less likely. They all tripped over themselves racing to say what a fraud he always was and they really knew it.
  21. I hate the "He's x in WAR, so y" argument. But Jack Morris is [expletive] 22nd in bWAR among this year's candidates. (OUT OF 37)
  22. 5 out of 7 also voted in favor of a geocentric model of the universe.
  23. yes, but not in the same sense that northwestern is lol Only three teams in D1 score a higher percentage of their total points off of 3-point shots. 1) Rice (45.3%) 2) Mount St. Mary's (43.4%) 3) Eastern Washington (43.0%) 4) Illinois (42.9%) The next closest power conference team I see is Northwestern in 22nd place with 37.1% of their points coming from 3's. Illinois was 187th last year with 26.6% of their scoring from 3-point shots. The last time Illinois was in the top 50 in that stat, they went to the national title game.
