  1. That was Robert Goodell they delivered it to
  2. I can agree with that, though my reasoning may be different than yours. It would show an astonishing lack of foresight on their part.
  3. He's played it close to his chest, who knows. I'm still prepping for Villanova. Chicago has no love for the state schools. Can't blame Chicago for Brunson
  4. Carlos Gomez, Elvis Andrus, Carlos Gonzalez, Tulo, and Jered Weaver have all signed pre-FA extensions with Boras as their agent. It's not impossible
  5. Yeah, I don't really expect us to go hard for any big name unless he's a starting pitcher.
  6. Or you could think we'll be in the running for a 2nd wild card, and putzing away 3 months might not be the best idea. Again, unless you think there's some sort of eureka moment where he turns the corner from bad to awesome in the blink of an eye, it's not making a difference worth worrying about(especially compared to the benefit). If he's great right away it doesn't make a difference, if he's bad for a long while it doesn't make a difference. If he's bad then progresses to be good, the difference in his call-up time is simply not significant. I know neither Baez nor Alcantara are Bryant, but I'm ecstatic that each were called up this year so they'll hopefully be able to hit the ground running next year. I think we should contend for a playoff spot next year, but I think our margin for error is slim. Throwing away potential wins in 2015 for wins we could likely lock up in 2021 anyway just seems so silly.

  8. Where are you getting that? All I see is people saying that because there are no guarantees about being able to keep him after he hits FA (and he almost certainly will), banking that extra year at the expense of a month at the end of a [expletive] season is the smart play. Unless someone has said "lets just get our guaranteed years of control and kick him to the curb" and I missed it. Because much of the conversation revolves around locking in a "prime year" of Bryant, as if when he meets all our wildest expectations, we shouldn't bother with him after that. ETA: I'm as erect on Bryant as anyone, but I'd still much prefer he have a month or 2 of MLB pitching before next year since we should actually be trying by that point. I don't want to see him come up in late April and then have to struggle for a couple months before he starts donging all over the place.
  9. And what it winds up being to me is that people are seemingly ok with letting Bryant walk at age 30, which is...insane
  10. coming soon to a 2015 baseball america prospect handbook cover near you. #sparkle B&?
  11. Yeah, I don't think anyone had a doubt we'd make a run at him. Now get him.
  12. Uhh viewtopic.php?f=44&t=58773&p=2596352&hilit=sandusky#p2596352
  13. I thought treymon addressed this, expletive nachos are still nachos. False, I got nachos at Moe's Cantina in River North and they were inedible. (Bring the hate for me being there...now)
  14. 14-22 since acquiring Lester. Has there been much talk about how losing Cespedes is what led to the cold streak? Seems like a ready made article to be written over and over again.
  15. Bet he'd return to Chicago to play for the White Sox over the Cubs. Guy was a Sox fan growing up, and had multiple anti-Cubs messages on his MySpace around the time he was drafted (yes MySpace) Yeah. It's far enough away anyway to not really be all that meaningful of a quote. It's also his hometown(where he'll probably keep at least some residence) asking a meaningless question. Nobody's going to say, No chance, I hate it here in stinktown.
  16. dafuq it was going pretty great until like 4 days ago. and a big reason for it to turn bad wasn't predictable at all (that indestructible castro and rizzo would suddenly get hurt within 3-4 days of eachother) That combined with Javy having a .389 OPS his last 20 games and Alcantara with a .496 OPS over the last 12 games. Their .559 and .622 over the last forever are more frustrating to me.
  17. He's not a pitcher. It IS the years, not the mileage.
  18. Here for the chicken wings
  19. The A's were 72-44 at the end of Aug 9th, with a 4 game lead in the West.(Also 4 games ahead for having the best record in baseball) They've since gone 8-18, are 7 back in the West and only 2 games away from missing the playoffs altogether.
  20. I was saying they wished they bought the tape so it wouldn't wind up going public.
  21. The police don't have to, but the casino sure as hell would have if the NFL asked for it. Or if the multibilliion dollar enterprise of the NFL would have paid more for it than TMZ. I bet they wish they had at this point.
  22. I can't imagine anyone who wants Bryant on the opening day roster wouldn't want him up now.
  23. No molestations the last 2 years.
  24. If they're serious about winning next year, he should be up the first damn game. They make too much money to worry about an extra $15MM 3 years from now. No. That is foolish. The difference between him and Coghlan/Valbuena or someone like that for like 3 weeks worth of games is negligible (hell, very easily could be a net gain). Are you angry that Baez is up?
  25. And when top team stop scheduling CUSA and MAC teams, they can schedule Indiana and Syracuse instead, and you can pout about that on annual basis instead.
