  1. I can't believe he got the 15% to make it a 2nd year.
  2. I voted yes, but am shocked at how much of a slam dunk this is turning out to be.
  3. Maddux hasn't had a below average year since the 1st time he was with the Cubs. In today's insane pitching market, he's probably priced just about where he shoudl be.
  4. It's definitely homerism on my part, but I give Dawson a lot of leeway based on his early #s considering how much Montreal tore him apart.
  5. Macias's spot was taken by a new addition to the team. That spot had to be there no matter what so whether Macias was released before the Rule V or not didn't matter, the spot wasn't going to be taken by a prospect, it was taken by a Howry, Eyre type. The JVB trade had nothing to do with Macias. Nor did the Leicester trade. Criticisms of Hendry for his 40 man management are one of my pet peeves as he seems to take a bad rap for a lot of things that he had to do. People get angry that guys were left on the 40 man for Rule 5 then dealt for peanuts later, thinking a different prospect shoulda been adeed. Beyond the fact that any prospect that's left off and not taken automatically makes it the right decision (extra year of options), those spots were going to be taken by FAs and/or trades, so whoever was placeholding them earlier in the offseason does not matter.
  6. Correct, however setting him up to fail is also conrtibuting to the player not suceeding. All i am saying to to give Jones a chance before condeming the transaction. Shouldn't past performance come into play at all? No matter what awful player Hendry signs we should wait to give him a chance before saying it was a dumb move? If Hendry goes out and locks up Doug Glanville to a 3 year deal for 12M, I don't have to wait to watch Doug draw 3 walks on the year to know it's an awful deal.
  7. Largely based on the 3.500 he put up against the Cubs.
  8. I think his dad was a real jerk in the negotiations too. Colorado couldnt stand him. What about Millwood. Didnt he turn a multi year deal for like $12M+. Accepted arbitration and thereafter got single season deals. Cleveland didnt pay him much last year. The multi year deal was another Boras thing. Going out saying he had multiple offers of 5/50, teams called his bluff, and he had to go back to Philly for abotu 1/10.
  9. FoxSports is not very reliable, and we are talking about a business that is very unreliable as a whole. I really doubt that FoxSports has the specifics of any trade proposal that might exist at this point. Still get a laugh out of Jack Haley's Boozer for Odom deal from last year. Fox is pretty unreliable. Ken Rosenthal has broken just about every transaction this offseason and puts out about 6 articles a day about it. He is very very good on baseball. It's been touched on a bit by others, but I have to reiterate what little sense this move makes with regards to the way Hendry's ran the rest of the offseason about pitching and defense and copying the flawed model from the other side of town.
  10. And so ends the career of Aaron Miles.
  11. I really don't know what I'll do if the Cubs wind up replacing Prior in the rotation with Garland. It'll probably involve a lot of profanity and a lot of tears.
  12. .255/.284/.337 for his career on the road. I'm always the first one screaming that road #s for Colorado players aren't a player's true ability, but even regressing that a ton, you still have a horrible hitter.
  13. I'm certainly not sleeping on Wisconsin. I love Bo Ryan, and the way they play ball. I think the talent gap is too much though and can't see them finishing ahead of MSU or Illinois. I don't want to see them in the Big 10 tourney, and if I was a fan of another conference, I'd certainly dread seeing them in my regional come tourney time.
  14. So you're giving all the positives of Zito and then describing Prior only as a guy who hasn't pitched a full season. I don't get the point. Are we talking about some third rate middle relief prospect coming of back to back tommy john surgeries? Are we talking about a 20 year old starting pitcher? Zito- full package Prior- full package The majority of baseball would value Prior higher. Yeah, but how many wins does he have?
  15. Why does being honest help him get a contract? Wouldn't lying in an attempt to remove the negative stigma help him more? And he admitted to it right as the result came out.
  16. Maddux has been above average both years with the Cubs. He's better than a #5.
  17. I thought for sure this poll was going to somehow relate to Jim Hendry and his negotiations with Jacque Jones's agent.
  18. you gotta be kidding me. zambrano, who is cheap, awesome and under the cubs control for a few more years PLUS the cubs top prospect for a guy who finished between dellucci and sweeney in OPS? PLUS a guy who can't be traded without his permission!!
  19. In regards to the Cards losing games off of last year's totals, they'd likely lose a few games just through regression, as according to the stats, it takes a truly incredible team to be statistically a 100 win team.
  20. I got him to change the Pierre K to a pop out. Pretty proud of my self-loathing of my Cub fandom.
  21. So should we assume payroll is being lowered this season?
  22. Even Ponson would be in trouble with a 4.1(CFICT's prediction) Blood alcohol level.
  23. You know why crazy things like this happen for the Cards? Because they make a lot of moves like this and some of them pay off. If a crazy thing "like that" happens I'll eat Sidney's hat. How about an ERA of 4.10 and 180 innings? Could you eat a Cubs hat? I'd be surprised to see Ponson do any better than his '04 #s of a 90 ERA+, which I'd be surprised to see Reyes not put up. Do you really want to see Ponson given a starting role, even with a dynamite ST?
