  1. And why is that? How many Mid-Major schools have even made it to the Final 4? You would think one would have gone that far sooner or later. Let's see...Marquette made it 3 years ago as a member of Conference USA. Maybe that doesn't count. Kent State made the Elite Eight in 2002. Gonzaga made it in 2000. Indiana State made the final game back in 1979, too, if the Elite Eight isn't far enough to be considered "far". Not letting teams get in unless they've "been there before" is quite the catch-22. I don't consider Conference USA as Mid-Major when it comes to basketball and I don't consider the Elite 8 the Final 4 as I stated. You are right about Indiana St and they had to go back to 79 which is 27 years ago. The top teams have been in and haven't gone far so why let the middle teams go to the 65? When was the last time the 7th and 8th place team in a power conference made the final 4? The idea that they haven't been very good in previous years, so they should be precluded this year is ridiculous. The difference is that the 7th or 8th place teams have proven they could go to the final 4 in other years while MM's have none of theirs go. Do you honestly think Cincinatti has a snowball's chance in hell of making the Final 4? You're changing the argument. A 7th or 8th, and I'm pretty damn sure 6th place team in any conference has never gone to the final 4. Might as well limit it to only the top 5 teams per conference. The fact that DePaul wasn't an embarrassment 10 years ago has nothing to do with whether they're worthy of the tourney should they put up a 500 record one of these years. Hell, there's teams in BCS conferences that have never made a final 4, guess they should never get the chance either. They haven't proven themselves. Let's just have a tournament at the end of the year with every former Final 4 team, and nobody else. That'll teach them for not being basketball factories.
  2. The WWF/WWE problem was that they had entered a contract with each other on when the initials could be used. The wrestling organization flagrantly violated the contract for years, and was finally called on it by the World Wildlife Fund. The World Baseball Classic doesn't really seem to be referred to as the WBC by anyone besides people typing shorthand on the internet.
  3. Well no team lower than an 8 seed has ever won the tournament either. Might as well trim the tournament cause obviously those at-larges below them have no chance to win the tourney.
  4. This is exactly what small market clubs should be doing. The highest risk is maybe you overpay by 3M over the next 5 years, and that's if Peralta sinks to Berroa's current levels. Peralta also has a higher standard to fall from than Berroa did. If Peralta fell off at the same pace that Berroa did, I think he'd be worth right around 13M If he stays where he's at, I think he's worth nearly twice that over the length of the contract.
  5. I don't see how this is a big gamble by the Indians. How much regression do you expect from Peralta that he won't be worth ~12.8M in 3 arbitration years?
  6. It wasn't like Syracuse was 1-0 against UConn, it was their 3rd try against them. I'd give No. Iowa an even money chance at 1 win if they had 3 tries against UConn. I feel like Sully over the past week or so when people continue to crap on the Valley saying all they do is beat up on each other to earn high RPIs. I can't imagine the uproar if Bradley went into Depaul and lost to them by 39.(Bradley beat them on the road by 15 before Bradley got hot) I absolutely cannot wait for a couple Valley or CAA(Who I think is overrated) wins in the tourney, and I hope Gary Williams (We'll schedule 3 neutral games against Missouri St. next year then, ((Yeah and you'll lose all 3))) is watching and I hope Jim Nantz is on the call. If you're going to worship at the throne of the RPI for the past 20 years, don't turn your back on it when for once it doesn't fit your preconceived notions. What the hell is the point of having these systems if you're just going to throw it out when it doesn't match what you already thought. Just because the school's name sounds different and hasn't been to a lot of tourneys before doesn't mean they don't belong. People were saying the same thing about Gonzaga 8 years ago, I just hope it doesn't take the legit teams from the Valley another 8 years to gain any sort of acceptance. People bitch and moan about these teams not playing anybody. They're not playing anybody because nobody wants to play them!! The coachs like Williams can say whatever they want about them knowing they're better than those teams. They flat out don't know that and that's why they won't play them in anything but a home game, and even those are rare. Cause what happens if one of those Valley teams that "doesn't play anybody" got the chance to "play somebody" What happens if they won?? Then your little cult of big time coaches are gonna see one of their guaranteed payoffs in a tourney slot get taken away by a small school and we certainly can't have that. So you migh as well keep scheduling Elon for home and homes, you know they don't stand a chance, and if they manage to pull off a miracle, hey it was just a fluke anyways, we all know those little schools can't hang. When's the last time Missouri St. won anything? EDIT: Move to rants if you deem necessary moderators, I don't know if this really counts as on topic. Wasn't supposed to be more than a 2 sentence reply.
  7. I don't think Iowa deserves it over U of I, but it's close enough that I could see it happening, which is why I'm rooting hardcore for MSU here. That and MSU winning the tourney won't make our loss look as bad. If we get lower than a 3, I'm gonna be pretty outraged. There are not 12 teams out there that deserve a spot above us.
  8. WHOO!! No Maryland!!
  9. Lemme just say if the scenario plays out the way you're talking about it, I'd love it Tiger. (UT/UI fighting for the last 2 seed) With that presumably the loser of the 2 seed would get the 3 seed in the same bracket. As long as Tennessee is the team we're matched up with in our half of the bracket I'll be a very happy panda. They're just not very good.
  10. I'm not a fan of shortening the season at all. Baseball more than any other sport is based on statistics and records. Having a 150 game season every 4 years just doesn't fly with me. I'd be more in favor of moving the start date of the season back a couple weeks and extending the playoffs by a week than shortening the season itself.
  11. I like that stance as it would be really unfair to a guy like Matt Holliday who left his team, and put in all the time only to barely play the past few games. On the other hand it's Matt Holliday vs. Barry Bonds.
  12. 5 years, 13 million. For a guy that hit .292/.366/.520 with 24 homers last year as a SS? Wow. They didn't buy out any of his free agency years. He may have made a bit more if he kept hitting at that rate throughout his indentured servitude, but it's not that big of a bargain. If Peralta keeps up that line, he might've made 13M in 2010 alone.
  13. Don't look at me, I wrote off Tennessee and Gonzaga months ago.
  14. Go Indiana. Can't even truly root for them enough to put a !
  15. Can't say you didn't see the NC St. game coming Bukie. *tips hat*
  16. Think that loss woke them up?? How in the hell did Canada almost lose to South Africa??
  17. The refs just let Dials do whatever the hell he wants in the lane. It's why I never support moving the 3 point line back in college, cause the last thing the college game needs more of is dumping the ball down low to some overweight slug who pushes people around and hits a 3 footer. You want that? Go watch the NBA.
  18. I guess Travis Barker never heard of boost mobile.
  19. Can anyone convince me that the 3 Big East teams are better than the Valley teams?
  20. I think the problem people have with Team A is they don't believe the RPI to be legitamate(mostly because it puts Team A as #19) I do wholeheartedly agree with you though, and wish I analyzed Team B a little bit further.
  21. Looks like an incredible deal......but so did the Berroa deal. I'm wagering this turns out better.
  22. I was really hoping maybe WCIU would have this, but nope.
