  1. Ed Farmer is a disgrace to Evergreen Park.
  2. Well, I guess Hendry never said far fewer than 79 wins wouldn't be acceptable. So as long as Dusty doesn't get them hot to get back to 79-83, this season will be acceptable.
  3. Tick Tock Raisin, Tick Tock.
  4. I think it's important to note that Barrett isn't just hitting good for a catcher, he's doing pretty well for a 1B or corner OF right now.
  5. I think people need to give up on the idea of Jones moving to CF. It's not nearly traditional enough for this franchise.
  6. Mike_Scott is somwhere crying. And Jimy is a misspell is still wondering what the rest of the NL is going to do.
  7. Radiohead being ranked "too high" should have helped them, as they would supposedly have gone against a lesser opponent. I still don't think CCR is better than any of the bands ranked ahead of them. mothers of invention, bon jovi, sonic youth, def leppard, KISS seem to be the obvious ones
  8. I said it then, I'll say it again, Radiohead was ranked too high and CCR was ranked too low.
  9. I've thought about it...but that was more for the Cubs' draft sake then anything else. I've seen this mentioned a few times. Did they eliminate the alternating leagues get the #1 pick rule?
  10. That's a lot of money to tie up to a bad pitcher next year if LA doesn't pick up the majority of Perez's contract.
  11. It's quite possible. It's also quite possible that he's Adrian Beltre redux. That is a good point, but I think Soriano pre-walk year was better than Beltre was pre-walk year (by some margain). Thus, it appears to be less a motivation issue (which is Beltre's problem) than maturing as a hitter (Soriano's problem?). Still, I see your point. Beltre was at least at an age that guys are entering their peak at being 25. Additionally there were rumors of a botched appendectomy to try and explain away his previous struggles. I always found that excuse to be pretty weak, but at least there was some attempt at an explanation. I've heard nothing to explain Soriano's middling years in Texas. This season for him really just has me in shock.
  12. Could it be that he just didn't want to discuss Bonds and steroids, in response to the question about Bonds? Nope, it must be cause he's hiding something. That's why he didn't comment on Barry Bonds. Yep. Possibly, but given all the speculation about his own steroid use, it was the perfect time to dispute those allegations and condemn the use of steroids and all other forms of cheating (except corking a bat of course). And have you call him a liar for it. LOOK AT HIS HEAD!!!
  13. It's quite possible. It's also quite possible that he's Adrian Beltre redux.
  14. Let's let it sink in. And that last sentence in what I quoted makes zero sense given what we've seen time and time again when someone seemingly dares to even think of mentioning the White Sox on this board. And having Mabry in your sig, under the reasoning you gave us, is ridiculous. Career-wise, Mabry has been a very solid bench player. He only got additional playing time when Lee was injured...other than that, we've seen him about as much as you'd expect to see a pinch hitter or guy subbing for someone hurt/have a day off. Pagan is infinitely more deserving to be up there with the time he's robbed Murton of thus far, thought neither he nor Mabry are even close to Neifi/Rusch-esque levels. If you have ever read Moneyball, you have more than enough reason to hate John Mabry. The guy is a dick. You hate people because of Moneyball? Works for Joe Morgan.
  15. Well since the theme of this thread seems to be ignoring sample size, let's look at their career playoff stats. Walker: .349/.391/.767 Soriano: .233/.287/.336 SORIANO'S UNCLUTCH~!~!~
  16. OPS Home/Road - 1.042/.879 Doesn't seem to be bothered by the size of his home park. exactly. imagine how he'd be doing if he was hitting in a good park. Yeah, just imagine him in a place like Arlington.
  17. I was annoyed, but the "free pass" was because he had produced before, and I expected his numbers to improve by the time all was said and done. So for me personally, Ramirez is not a fit for this team. When it really matters, he doesn't show up or care. Bury him on a top 5 offensive team where he can fly under the radar. The Cubs need someone capable of being a carry-the-load guy behind Lee and they need a big time producer, so it has to come from 3B, LF, or RF next year. I once again feel the need to ask, what team were you watching in '03 and '04.
  18. Where were you in '03? In '04?
  19. The point is, it's pretty accepted that guys throw at players from time to time. The unwritten rule is you don't talk about it. You aren't so bold to say yeah we're intentionally throwing at you.
  20. Are they really going to move Podsednik to CF? Because that would be an unmitigated disaster.
  21. The first ~150 games or so of the '04 season weren't so bad. Kerry Wood's homerun in game 7 is still my favorite baseball memory of all time in isolation.
  22. It was 12-6 last I checked. This is much better. If I had to order songs that I'd prefer to listen on the radio, I think I'd have to list at least 20 Beatles songs before I got to an AC/DC song.
  23. With our pitchers being high K guys, I don't think we should focus on defense nearly as much as on guys who actually get on base. As you said, it's so hard to quantify, and what happense when you have Hendry looking for good defense, you wind up with the team you have now. I definitely have to disagree on Jones's range though, he's pretty stellar when it comes to tracking balls down in RF, he just has a horrendous arm.
  24. Wow, I didn't realize how easily AC/DC won their first 2.
  25. Wait a sec. now? The job was his to win in ST and both Guzman and Marshall out pitched him. So lets not here the Cubs don't give Rich Hill many chances. It's not how many chances you are given. It's how you take advantage of those chances when you are given them.. So that's why I haven't won the lottery. Hill hasn't been given a chance. The worst thing is, I believe he still won't be given a chance. He'll get 3 maybe 4 starts and that's if he is good in his first one. Then when Marshall comes back he'll be moved to the bullpen or sent back to AAA. If he didn't want to be sent back to AAA he'd throw 3 shutouts.
