  1. That sentence right there makes your user name quite ironic. Beat me to the punch, White Sox fan love for Haeger has gotten out of control.
  2. I wonder if Reds message boards question his manhood.
  3. Didn't Gary Carter and Mazeroski play defense?
  4. Because Hendry isn't very intelligent?
  5. Which is all I hear from Illinois football fans, some hope that they could once again become a legitimate team. Nobody's saying look out Ohio St. and Michigan, people are saying, hey if things work out we can beat a 4-4 Big 12 team.
  6. Don't count on either. Pruitt, Randle, Frazier, etc. Basically all but Carter and McBride are back. Illinois Football is on the way up too. You really think a 2-10 team is gonna beat an 8-4 team when we return like 16 starters? Remember, in college football, juniors and seniors win games NOT true freshman. Luckily Juice will be a true sophomore next year. And I like complaints about cockiness from fans who were talking seriously about BCS berths and Gameday appearances after beating nothing but mediocre at best teams to open the season.
  7. Ugly #s for Nicholson, but from the brief amount of the game I watched it didn't look like he was getting too much help out there. Constantly pressured and no running game to speak of. Hopefully this isn't used against him for next year.
  8. Pomeroy nailed the exact # of points Illinois scored tonight predicting a 73-66 victory. I'm not really saying it validates the rest of his predictions, just think it's cool when things hit like that. And screwing around on the site for awhile I came across Butler. It's going to be interesting to see where they wind up in the tourney field. They have wins over 4-6 tourney teams to go with a bad loss against Indiana St. The Horizon is not going to offer up much competition, where I can't see them losing more than 5 games on the year. Is the committee going to give them the same impartial treatment they gave the Zags last year despite them not playing anyone for 2.5 months or is the fact that they haven't been there before going to knock them down and make them a dreadful matchup for some team?
  9. That's crazy. I think San Diego is the favorite, but I'd take the field straight up against San Diego.
  10. Off the who pickem page, I wound up with 24 of the nation's favorites, 8 dogs.
  11. We should've taken advantage of Pruitt down low more, and should've locked McBride in a cage in Abu Dhabi. Good-Great games from the frontcourt, bad-mediocre games from the backcourt.
  12. If Z isn't a Cub next year, I'll eat my hat.
  13. There is absolutely no reason for U of I to be losing with how ineffective the press has been. The defense has been atrocious and just flat out lazy. And Marcus Arnold needs to go to Nick Smith exile. So you're tall Marcus, that's great, what else you bring to the table? Oh the inability to cover anyone, box anyone out or hit a 2 footer?? And you'll average a foul a minute!!! GREAT!
  14. Mike Patrick is a load.
  15. It's kind of annoying that you can't view people's picks til the 27th. I put 28 on TCU for those interested.
  16. I always think the smart bet is to go with straight confidence, because the games you have differently you aleady have a huge edge just from them losing their 16 points for being wrong in addition to the 8 you gain from being right.
  17. I don't really care about Marquis' number, but the bolded part above is just not true for many of us. in fact, just the opposite. Sosa was an after thought in the Sandberg/Grace years, especially since he was trying to replace the Hawk. then he was the embodiment of overpaid, unfulfilled potential, spazmodic K monster that could have been good if he ever learned to recognize a low and away slider. then there was 1997 when I for one was completely done with him and wanted him gone. only then did he become a hero to all of Wrigleydom, and he was more of a pain in the ass then a beloved character in his last two years with the Cubs. so to many he was loved for his whole Cub career. to most of us that weren't adolescents or younger in the early and mid 90's, he was nothing special. I have to disagree with your disagreement. Sosa's 30-30 seasons made him a big star in Chicago. I'll give you '92, nobody cared about Sosa, and were pissed that we traded George Bell for the bum. But Sosa had the 30-30 year in '93 and then the face of the franchise retired midway through '94. That coupled with Sosa having a very good year in '94 followed up by another 30-30 in '95 made him the new man in Chicago. Then he follows it up with the key power #s, 40 HRs, 100 RBI(without playing in September), even with Sandberg's return, Sosa was the guy in Chicago. I'll give you the '97 season, Sosa was far from loved, and many people thought his contract extension was insane. But I think to say he wasn't adored for most of his career is a gross misrepresentation.
  18. Exactly. Seriously I would love to see serious steps foward WITHOUT dumping money at guys and saying "look at this, we're improving and it only cost is a gazillion dollars." This team is barely a .500 team right now. In two years, considering all the farm really has to offer right now is Sean G., and Pie (I'm no Patterson fan), we might be in a pathetic shape. Veal?
  19. Yeah, I know. Anywho, kenpom.com has a new feature(new to me at least) predicting the outcomes of each game the rest of the season. I like the way he's got U of I's looking. http://kenpom.com/sked.php?y=2007&team=Illinois&t=p
  20. It would be embarrassing because we haven't lost to Mizzou since Carter was president.
  21. I don't care what the announcers say, that OK St./Tennesee game was a hideous creature.
  22. How often do defenses really bring in negative points? I'd start them.
  23. This is ridiculous. Nobody said Augustine was better than May. The fact that May puts up 12/6 in the NBA and Augustine rides the practice squad tells me absolutely nothing about a 1 on 1 matchup between Augustine vs. May 1 on 1.
  24. why does he have to? I seriously don't get it. If you're going to hate a player for taking an available number (which happens to be the number they have always worn) then you are being petty Didn't Marquis wear a different # with the Braves?
  25. Just a quibble, it wasn't a benefit of the duobt against Nova in the last minute, it was flat out taking the ball out of Nova's hands. Just a horrendous call.
