  1. Yeah he really got slaughtered after that Green HR.
  2. Murton's arm strength is not a joke. That 15 inning game he threw a strike to home from deep RF. He doesn't have a traditional RF's arm, but he doesn't have a noodle like people are implying. The reason RF arm strength is overrated, is how many bases is a poor armed RF gonna make compared to a good armed RF? I'd rather have the stronger arm in LF than RF as I think there are just as many chances for a LF to throw a guy out stretching a double or trying to score as there are for a RF to 2nd, 3rd, and home based on the fact that more balls go to LF than RF. The fact that it's a golden rule of baseball means nothing. There's a lot of asinine golden rules of baseball. Dusty is a golden rule of baseball type.
  3. Exactly. Can you imagine the nerve of the guy? I'll bet he's lounging in his backyard right now sucking down some cold brews, or getting ready for another round of golf this afternoon. But seriously, the Kerry bashing here has reached new depths of cluelessness. Rehab is unpredictable and painful as hell. Of course he is. Obviously he planned the whole thing: sign a huge contract and then strategically injure himself so he won't have to earn it. I mean there is that constant rehab, public pressure, derision and long term health effects, but that's nearly as bad a pitching every fifth day, right? He also gets the added bonus of never getting the huge contract that pitchers with his talent are receiving these days!
  4. Not that it should be even be discussed, but Cabrera still has 2 years of arbitration ahead of him, I don't know where the talk of him being a FA came from. Back to something more realistic, Matt Murton's arm isn't bad. It's not a great arm, but people talk like he's Jacque Jones '06 out there. Amazing how one bad throw can skew people's opinions. His arm is more than adequate to play RF.(Though I do think arm strength is really overrated when judging a RF.)
  5. Street's on my team and this is actually okay news for my team. King Felix was on my DL and I didn't go to make a move to drop a player in time so when I went to do it this morning, it wouldn't take effect until Wednesday. Since Street is DL eligible now, I can start Felix tonight, and buy myself an extra 15 days on my roster move.
  6. The problem is not a lack of clutch relief work. The problem is the lineup and starting rotation aren't taking care of business enough on their own, so when the bullpen does falter, as all bullpens do from time to time, it's glaring. Other teams bullpens rarely falter when they face the Cubs. It usually looks like they are trotting Cy Young out there. Look what the Pirates relievers did in the 15 inning game. Pathetic. Agree completely about the lineup being the biggest problem and it has been for a long, long time. and the cubs bullpen stopped the pirates for 5 innings. And only gave up the run in the 15th due to some real dopey fielding. So the Cubs fielding isn't clutch.
  7. Part of the reason he's getting RBI is Soriano is getting himself into scoring position from the leadoff spot. There is value in SLG from the leadoff position in the same way that there is value in having a good base stealer in the leadoff position. It's nice to have a guy in scoring position to leadoff the game so your best hitters have 3 chances to bring him in with just a single.
  8. Why does Floyd need to be traded? I keep reading about how it's a huge problem and we need to deal 1 or 2 of our OFs. The problem is Piniella playing the right players, not the existence of the players themselves. God forbid we have a bat off the bench who can actually hit.
  9. Why, because it points out one of your corner outfielders is as about as prductive as Neifi Perez with about 1/3 of the ABs. It certainly ruffles the feathers around here to point out the flaws of the boards favorite son. Quick, guess who has the best OPS this year out of Murton, Floyd, and Jones. Hint: The answer is not Floyd or Jones He's had a couple of good games. I hope it is a sign of things to come. Ruh roh, you just backed off! The easiest way to prove that you have no case is to back off the moment stats that make a lot of sense directly ruin your point. Nice try but you are wrong. I gave him credit for a good couple of games. So shoot me. It still doesn't make up for his poor play up until Saturday. Yeah he was good the last couple of days and all of his supporters are coming out of the woodwork. I'll be sure to come back and let you know when he has his next 0 for 4 and playing the outfield like a drunken sailor. How bout when Cliff Floyd does?
  10. I don't know what to say. ??? Please enlighten me with your infinite wisdom Every single plate appearance "skews" statistics by your definition. Why should Murton's last 5 or 6 ABs not be considered but a 5 or 6 AB stretch earlier in the year where he did nothing is. It's not misleading at all to say Murton has been more productive this season when his season long stats (all included, it's not like his most recent at bats are weighted more heavily) are better.

The easiest way to prove that you have no case is to back off the moment stats that make a lot of sense directly ruin your point. If you look at the season prior to the PHI series, Murton had the lowest OPS out of the 3. Weird, Murton played a few games in a row, and did well.

  13. HR and RBI clearly the best way to compare.
  14. Since we're gonna go ahead and use gay as an insult. viewtopic.php?t=40592
  15. If it helps, we'll probably run away with 2nd place.
  16. Well Jones's range likely does make him a better RF despite Murton's big advantage in his arm.
  17. RF. He couldn't be any worse than Murton out there. Cause, see. Matt Murton dropped that fly ball.
  18. This makes him seem like a nut job. Have YOU seen Jeff Sparks???
  19. Who is this person?? The only person who ever seems to fit people's definition under this is Ivan Rodriguez.
  20. in spite of what dan bernstein might say, you cannot swallow your own tongue. bashing out the guy's teeth was unnecessary. just lay the guy on his side to keep his airway open and save him a pricey dental bill. sounds like schneider, being uninformed, overreacted. When a person is having a seizure, you cannot lay them on their side. I've never heard of someone choking on their tongue, so I cannot say whether it is possible or not, but I do know it is highly unsafe and somewhat unlikely to try to turn a person having a seizure on their side. Unless they're vomiting there shouldn't be a problem keeping their airway open. Herm Schneider is a gluttonous slob. Regardless of this, Herm Schneider may or may not be a competent trainer.

In addition to being a gluttonous slob, Herm Schneider sounds like a bad trainer.
  22. Its really aggravating how this whole "rap music is to blame" bullcrap is coming to the forefront again. It's really aggravating how you've annointed yourself the spokesman for rap music.
  23. For being a gluttonous slob, Herm Schneider really seems like a great trainer.
  24. Buys out 1 FA year, the option would be the second. All these long term deals for pre-arb players have looked like great values for the team.
