  1. You've always been more rational than this. The Cards are the worst team of the 3 and you know it.
  2. I think Murton is more likely. When it comes down to a decision about which one they want to keep up to maintain postseason eligibility I think they'll keep Pie for his speed and defense. I think Monroe spelled the end of Murton's postseason hopes. Postseason eligibility should have nothing to do with the decision assuming the Cubs aren't dumb. When postseason rosters are submitted Pagan should be on it along with Novoa, Guzman, and Prior.(This is assuming Pagan doesn't come back this year, and I don't think he will. Huh? You submit your postseason rosters with guys who will end the season on the DL. Then when the postseason rolls around you can replace them with anyone on the 40 man roster who was in the organization on August 31st. (See K-Rod)
  3. To answer abuck's query, Kendall has struck out 7 times with men on 1st+, the same as his number of DPs.

  5. wow, you couldn't be more wrong. if kendall had hit seven infield groundballs on the season, you'd be right. as it is, however, you're very, very wrong with your math. Perhaps you're right, I wasn't paying attention to what he does with runners on (a requisite for a DP). Kendall strikes out in approximately 9.3% of his at bats. With runners on base, Kendall had seven GIDP in 150 AB... or about 4.6% of his at bats. Ok... so he was only TWICE as likely to strikeout as ground into a double play. Still not exactly a fantastic ratio for Lou. But a DP has to be in order, so removing his ABs without a runner on 1st brings it down to 104 ABs bringing it up to 6.7%
  6. What's annoying is that Kendall took a weak flail at the pitch, it didn't need to be a true hit and run, in that Kendall doesn't have to swing if it's a bad pitch. If it's a bad pitch, he just takes it and the bases are loaded. Kendall bears a lot of the blame for not taking ball 4.
  7. is there a comedy forum? How does that concern this post?
  8. Yeah those 27 run losses every week make it pretty much worthless.
  9. Many people swear that Selig is the only reason there's a franchise in Milwaukee.
  10. No. I'd rather have a hitter who hits 320/412/557 against lefties and could have been had for as little as we gave for Monroe. Sammy can't play CF.
  11. http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/MLBEventInfo?gameid=2007/08/28/milmlb-chnmlb-1
  12. Not being accusatory, just genuinely interested in your opinion what do you guess for Milwaukee and St. Louis?
  13. I'm not trying to get on the conspiracy train, but I have never heard of this before. Getting a suspension reduced without a hearing?
  14. Just to add on to that. The most games he's played in CF in one season was 33. I suspect it was because of an injury. In all other seasons he's played CF in less than a dozen games/year. He also played 27 games there in 2004 in addition to the 33 in 2005. In 2006 and 2007, he hasn't played much center, but that's understandable considering Granderson started 143 games there last year and has started 110 games there already this year. He's certainly played enough there to be considered a candidate out there, and both Lou and Hendry emphasized that he can play all 3 OF positions, so I don't think they will be hesitant to put him out there. In 2004-2005 the alternatives were Nook Logan and Alex Sanchez in CF. In 2007, the alternative is Jacque vs. lefties.
  15. 2/6M would be a pretty decent deal for Monroe.
  16. So DeRosa can handle LF today, but not last night? Dom Jolley ftw.
  17. Jones is probably getting paid about what he should this year when factoring in CF defense. Somebody mentioned Hendry's "I always liked him" mentality. I feel like I'm blanking on 1 or 2, but the only ones I can come up with right now are Barrett and Kendall, both of which turned out good(so far with Kendall) Any help on others?
  18. Monroe dreams of just 1 year of being as productive as Jacque Jones. He should never ever face a righty.
  19. FYI, playoff schedule NLDS A Game 1 Wed., Oct. 3 TBS NLDS B Game 1 Wed., Oct. 3 TBS ALDS B Game 1 Wed., Oct. 3 TBS NLDS A Game 2 Thurs., Oct. 4 TBS NLDS B Game 2 Thurs., Oct. 4 TBS Game 161 is Sep. 29, leaving 3 off days before either NLDS game 1, which presumably leaves Z for game 2 in your scenario. However, have the Cubs gone 6 weeks using the same rotation ever over this season? I know they've had mostly the same 5 guys, but it seems to me that things have changed around at least once a month. One thing to keep in mind is the likelihood of a Marshall and/or Lilly missed start, given each of their histories with high innings pitched. If you go through the games and keep Z on 4 days rest, I have him starting game 159 @ Florida, leaving him with plenty (or more than enough) rest to start game 1. Also available for 2 or 3 innings of relief in 163.
  20. I don't ever recall getting the sense that people here believed Jones was 'done'. They just thought he wasn't worth the money. One major difference between the two is that our GM didn't trade one of our best hitters for a below-average leadoff hitter and trumpet it as a smart move. Well, argue about chemistry all you want, but the year after that trade the White Sox won the World Series. If Jim Hendry could make a trade like that, even if for a worse player, would you really argue? It freed up money to get Contreras and OHernandez. Those 2 guys had career years as did Podsednik. What Sox fans are doing in their revisionist history is saying that Podsednik gave them a better chance to win than CLee without bringing up the money savings. Which is just plain stupid. Of course most Sox fans think Erstad is a good player when healthy. It reminds me of a long-running debate I've had with my Sox-loving father-in-law who to this day...and some 550 HR later...he still proclaims that the George Bell for Sammy trade was worthwhile because the Sox were in a playoff push. Of course, a number of 40+ HR seasons would have possibly helped the Sox win more division titles throughout the 90s. Sosa was probably immediately more valuable. And he was certainly a better player in '93. What an amazing trade. By Larry Himes...
  21. I made a joke about LaRussa doing this. Any manager who would actually do this would be an idiot.

  23. Isn't DeRosa in RF? I don't understand why you wouldn't put Pie in CF and move Jacque to LF. Well you traditionally put your 2nd best range guy in RF, and that's definitely Jacque. Also, Balls of Fury just looks terrible, I think I've mentioned it on here a few times already due to my computer at work not having adblock and seeing the trailer before Superbad, but man it's just awful looking. CUBS WIN!! Can I say you were on in today's game thread. All the way from the ginger posts to the Two and a Half Men hate. I'll be gone from game threads for the next 4 days(maybe around for a half hour tomorrow), had to do all I could tonight.
