  1. two words: Rafael Palmeiro That argument only works against non-cubs. Awfully sensitive lately. Not really, have just had more time to read/respond to certain things here which are wrong. Typical Cards fan response
  2. 4. What's abuck? 99 bucks less than it usually costs me.
  5. I left the board, and had to come back cause it clicked with me. Ummmm Mazeroski??
  6. Morgan was a better player than Sandberg. I don't know enough/trust the word on Morgan's fielding enough to make a judgement on his defense, but he was better all around.
  7. What a friggin waste of an asset that would be. Err, what SSR said. Asset? What exactly does Cedeno bring to the table? 24 year old who has torn up AAA. Could be valuable in a trade if we find a gullible GM...so basically if we try to make a trade with ourselves. But has been nothing short of pathetic at the big league level. His career OPS+ is lower than Neifi's. That should tell you all you need to know about the guy. He's played one full year in the majors. If he had been starting from day one this year, I think he'd be putting up respectable numbers What makes you think that? His line in his rookie year? .300/.356/.375/.731. He's had 51 AB this year spread out all over the place, I'm sure he'll do better with more consistant playing time (especially when considering the improvements he's made in plate discipline at AAA this season). Seriously? You're looking at his "rookie year?" All 80 at bats of it? Why that rather than the year in which he actually played a full season? You know, the year where he put up the .245/.271/.339/.610 line in 534 at bats. And FYI, in '05 his 80 at bats were spread out over 5 months. This year his 50 at bats have been spread out over about 4.5 months. You're using his spread out at bats in '05 to show what he's capable of, yet his spread out at bats this year have hurt him. Huh? Why are his AAA #s completely meaningless to you, and I swear to God if I hear about G-D JASON F-N DUBOIS I'm going to strangle somebody.
  8. They didn't waste an option year. He already was on the major-league roster when they optioned him during spring training. Ok good. NC made me feel like an absent father who doesn't pay any attention to their kids and then comes back and is like, "wow, you graduated highschool? I had no idea you were even in highschool." Unless this is a reference I'm missing, really really weird analogy.
  9. Yeah, I'm 34000+ Hope my grandkids enjoy them.
  10. I was at a Sox game and saw the proposal on the big screen and started tearing into the concept of it talking about what a class act the guy must be. He was sitting right behind me.
  11. Colvin's isn't very well-regarded around these parts, so argue away. Back handed compliment was the phrase.
  12. Kepping in mind that this is really the first season where Soto showed this level of offense. Also keep in mind that the PCL is very much a hitters league this year. It's not as if Soto is just having a good year in the PCL. He's pretty much the best hitter statistically in the PCL. The environment doesn't matter when you're #1. Soto has never had the power as a hitter he's showing this year, but he's always put up respectable OBPs.
  13. Not really. Patterson was called up during the minor league season, so he lost development time by sitting on the bench in Chicago. By the time Smardz is called up the minor league season will be over, so he won't be missing out on any development time. The Cubs are likely to call up all the guys that have already gotten the call this year: Ohman, Petrick, Gallagher, Cherry, Cotts and Rapada (in approx. that order) Soto, Fox and Patterson That's already a lot of players. If they do call him up I doubt he gets more than one appearance, maybe 2 if the race is over and its the last day of the season. That's probably not going to hurt him nor will it help him very much. They should call up all of them, but Piniella made it sound like there'll only be a few additions to the roster. I don't know why, unless it's an order from the higher ups to not spend too much on September call ups like the Expos in '03. If we only bring up 3 pitchers and Samardzija is one of them, it's just a horrible, horrible idea.
  14. Cedeno's 24. And started 9 games this season. He'll probably never be more than a utility IF, but to write off a guy as CLEARLY having no future as a major leaguer is nuts considering his minor league record since '04. Koyie Hill worked well with Zambrano too, and he had about as many big hits in his time up as Blanco did in his last 3 seasons. Koyie: .161 .231 .269 OPS+ 28 "Hank": .251 .302 .395 OPS+ roughly 70 I can't believe I'm saying this, but Henry Blanco is a major upgrade (assuming he doesn't take PT away from Kendall or future PT from Soto, which may be a stretch). edit: anyone know an easier way on BR.com to total a player's stats with a certain team? I'm obviously not going to argue that Blanco isn't an upgrade over Koyie, but if they were just gonna friggin DFA the guy, then DFA the guy 3 weeks ago and let Soto get a few starts.
  15. He should lose a few outs off his streak for letting Joey Gathright be the one to break it up.(And yeah, I've seen his #s this year, he still sucks.
  16. Arguing for Matt Morris and Pujols is crazy. But Adam Kennedy might take the cake. This year is by far his worst major league season.

  18. I mentioned it in the minor league thread, but it bears repeating. Samardzija is the worst(in terms of what he could do in the majors tomorrow) pitcher on the 40 man roster. There is no reason for him to be getting innings over the others.
  19. Preseason football is the lamest sporting event this side of the WNBA. I can't possibly imagine caring about it over a Cubs game even if we were in last place.
  20. Presented without comment Rich Hill 3.73 Ted Lilly 3.74 Carlos Zambrano 3.86 Sean Marshall 4.21 Jason Marquis 4.25
  21. Wouldn't all #8 hitters have stud numbers then?
  22. Yeah gotta make sure preseason NFL goes down without a hitch.
  23. Forgot to point out earlier, but important to keep in mind. The tidbit is from the Newark Star Ledger. I can't remember them ever being right about anything. Though I do recall lots and lots of wrongness.
  24. Not if they're just aiming for 5. You could sneak 2.5 more innings in by midnight :)
