  1. Would Chris Duncan have made any of the catches Ludwick's made today?
  2. Guy at my work blasting the Lee Elia rant right now.
  3. Even thought it worked, that IBB was classic overmanaging LaRussa.
  4. No AIM at work. Bring back flashchat.
  5. Tango's affable and very intelligent. Lichtmann's very intelligent but also a condescending prick and has made some ridiculous claims.
  6. I'm one of the biggest Floyd detractors on the board, (Floyd sucks. is my rallying call in flashchat) but releasing Floyd would be poor roster management. Survive with one backup IF for the next 2 weeks then recall Ronny on 9/1. Floyd's still a better hitter than Ronny off the bench. That and Craig Monroe has been worse than Neifi against righties.
  7. Craig Monroe would be a nice guy to have in September as a righty bat that can hit for power, but there's really no place for him until rosters expand.
  8. What do you think about Kenny Williams spending 108 million? Williams has a much better track record than Hendry, but he did not put together a good club for this year. I think White Sox fandom is pretty sour on Williams' work this year, and rightfully so. The WS win bought him a little time, but 2 non-playoff years in a row has dried up Kenny's reserve of goodwill. As did the Minor league system under his watch. Eh, Gio Gonzalez is pretty good.
  9. I'll deny it. It's not like that was a pre-ordained 100 game winner. It was highly flawed, as evidenced by the continually weak offense predicated on contact and the ignorance of the value of a walk. Amazing? Please. It was set up to be pretty good. Maybe not amazing just because that's such a strong word, but he did put together exactly what we always complain about him not doing. He put a team together that was a 95 win team on paper, and even if things go wrong, they should still win the wild card. That team was great.
  10. As amazing as it sounds. After next year, Jones will have probably been a bargain at his contract. Still doesn't mean it was the right move to make, but factors(mostly the market explosion alogn with his move to CF) have made him a value.
  11. This is a surprisingly slow thread compared to usual transactions. I know he's on the team already, but this is a pretty big deal. Are people actually working now or something?
  12. Which is why the Marlins trade was really really dumb from our side.
  13. I'm sketchy on Montanez, but Harvey and Dope's strengths as hitters were raw power, they were never the type of hitters that Vitters is. The talk about not developing a hitter for the past 20 years isn't really indicative of a lot because there's little sense in talking about the developmental history of the organization rather than the guys actually down there doing the developing. I'm not saying I think we have the right coaches in the system to develop a high school hitter, but I'm also not ready to say take the most polished hitter when you can because there's no way our system can get anything out of a guy from high school.
  14. At this point, the reason the Cubs are keeping Hill is that they want a 3rd catcher for September, and are convinced Hill would go elsewhere if outrighted to AAA.
  15. The Cubs believed Wieters would have commanded a major league contract and they weren't willing to give him that - it was one of the main reasons they passed on him. but he didn't command a major league contract. I don't really care what the reason is, the Cubs passed on the best hitter in the draft, and that pisses me off. It's not like they passed on a Prior for Brazleton. Vitters wasn't rated much lower than Wieters, and was rated as better by some.
  16. If we win the division I bet you'll recant the statement. I'd rather win the division and lose in the playoffs than not be in the playoffs. Me too. I remember warning everyone not to dismiss StL a couple weeks ago... I told everyone to. I still am.
  17. a bomb. lol well played. I don't get you man. You claim to be a Cards fan, but you are neither obnoxious or mean spirited. They did win the World Series last year. If the Cubs won the WS last year, I'd have a tough time being either obnoxious or mean-spirited about this year. And then there's the White Sox.
  18. I wouldn't say people hated on him, but I was definitely in the group that was terrified his bottom of the slump numbers were what he'd give us. I was really optimistic about him heading into the season because of his giving up switch hitting just a couple years ago, went into the dumps on him, and now love him all over again. I'm a Cubs fan.
  19. and this division also produced the WS champs last year in a sweep, and none of those teams in the AL are that impressive this year either. Last 3 NL World Series competitors too. Doesn't really have anything to do with this year's division though.
  20. I'd be shocked if Wisconsin finishes fifth. Behind who... Michigan, PSU, OSU and who, Iowa??? I-L-L
  21. He just needs to throw the slider low and away more often. Dammit beaten. I've also think I've made that joke like 20 times on the site. Whatever.
