  1. my favorite part of the game was when Jon Miller mentioned someone's OPS (maybe Soto's), and Joe Morgan was silent then gave an awkward laugh. Berman did the same thing a few weeks ago when Gammons mentioned it. Cavemen morons.
  2. Since OPS+ directly corresponds to OPS, a discrepancy in OPS corresponds to a discrepancy in OPS+ and vice-versa. If both OPS's were from the same league and year. and team.
  3. Where was this argument taking place, I'm not sure I've ever had an argument about baseball where the other guy brought up ops+ or weighted ops.
  4. Braun isn't a 3B anymore. He never was.
  5. What?...... How did you come up with any of that? abuck hates the Cubs. He's just here for the chicken wings.
  6. The performance of Ludwick, Schumaker and Miles notwithstanding the key point is they're not pitchers, barring any trades the St. Louis staff is going to be their undoing. The bullpen is currently 24 of 30 in ERA, we've seen some of it and its not good, the starters are 9 of 30 in ERA - with the likes of Looper, Lohse, Piniero and Mitchell Boggs (who is 2-0 despite issuing more BB's than K's along with more hits than IP and 3 HR's in 16.1 IP!) - do you really believe this group is going to keep this up? They made Jeff Weaver into a stud. They can and will keep it up. Considering Weaver's performances before and after his time with the Cardinals, Duncan should goto the HOF on that alone. because he had a good run in the playoffs? he was terrible in the regular season with them THANK YOU Ohh wahhh Jeff Weaver had a good 4 start run with the Cardinals, it's not fair. Personally, I think it'll be great if Mark Mulder comes back for the Cards this year. Is this really what we've come to fretting about? The dried up husk of Mark Mulder's career? I think Truffle was the one who mentioned it before, but if I'm looking at the realistic wild card possibilites, I'm definitely pulling for the Cardinals to get it so that we have a not very good team in the playoffs as a potential opponent.
  7. Bozich looks way worse than Weber in that story. Total asshat.
  8. By my quick count, the Red Sox were 3 games over against teams over 500 last year. Cardinals in '06: 5 games under. White Sox in '05: 6 games over. Your record against winning teams has little to do with your playoff abilities.
  9. That sounds like just a miserable way to be a fan.
  10. Because the Brewers are the team that we're holding off, not the Cardinals.
  11. Almost certain it isn't because they mentioned something along those lines earlier this year and people pulled up that we were ahead by more in '01.
  12. If Zambrano is going to miss one start, I think I'd DL him for the full 15 days. No need to rush him back before he's ready when we have a 6.5 game lead.
  13. Nicely done Lou.
  14. make no mistake, people were doing that in April overreacting to his hot stretch of hitting People were doing that in conjunction with good minor league #s and a vastly improved approach at the plate.
  15. If the Cubs beat up on the good and the bad teams they'd have a .750 winning %.
  16. Quite funny to see the Z melts down cause of bad defense being brought out after he recently calmly got about 8 outs in an inning(was that the 130 pitch game?) because the defense was so terrible. well that and what happened to BMAN89ROCZ I'm an old man now, these people just anoy me at this point.
  17. because that pitch is the best curveball in baseball when he can locate it No it's not, it's predictable and overused.

  19. They're a hell of a lot more in it than the Cardinals are, but no, let's all sit around and freak out about them and say how lucky they are and how unfair life is, after all they used to have in their primes Rolen, Edmonds, Pujols, and Carpenter. That's certainly reason enough to fear them. Heh, I bet you'd be freaking out about the Cards if your team didn't just win an NBA championship. I'm freaking out about the Brewers and my team just won an NBA title. :yahoo: :yahoo: Seriously, I've been saying it all year, the Cardinals just aren't that good, and if it wasn't for the name on the front of the jersey everyone else would be saying the same thing. Yes, Dave Duncan is a great pitching coach, yes Tony LaRussa is a very good manager, but no, the Cardinals aren't anywhere close to the Cubs when it comes to actual talent, and no great coaching(on the major league level) and stupid made up Cardinal magic or whatever kneejerk angry excuse you want to pull out doesn't make up for the difference of actually having good players on the team.
  20. How do you suppose he gets so many strike outs with only one pitch that's worth a damn?
  21. Are other teams going to look at what Hill's done in the majors the last 2 seasons? Hill's fastball is more 91ish than 89, he had a pretty good walk rate last year, and he has a great curveball. That, and Coco Crisp blows.

  23. Are people ever gonna start worrying about the 2nd best team in the Central?
  24. Opens the door for Penn St. to get a 1st round bye in the BTT. Probably not, but it's out there. After the top 4 (MSU, Purdue, Wisky, OSU), it's a real crapshoot for those middle teams before you get to UM and IU at the bottom. Gun to my head I'd say Illinois, Minnesota, Penn St., Northwestern, Iowa And wow, after the top 3, the Big 10 is going to be really bad this year.
