  1. In before the split: Theriot/Cedeno is totally subconscious racism. It's not KKK hang all blacks racism necessarily, but the descriptions of each player are hilarious. Theriot's the guy that makes the most of his abilities, works hard every day, has fun playing baseball. Cedeno is the buffoon who is too stupid to learn how to get better and when he should be working to get better he's out partying.
  2. If I can be Debbie Downer here, remember there pretty much had to be a payroll bump in order to afford our current team.
  3. Bobby Abreu is older than dirt, and Milton Bradley can't play a full season in the field.
  4. The fact that were close makes the no-trade a very good move. Considering at least 1 if not a few pieces in that trade went to Oakland to get Harden.
  5. It's like people can't make a post about Soriano without useless information about his salary or useless information about him batting leadoff. Dave Kaplan give you these talking points?
  6. King Kaufman at salon.com had a similar article as well. I was hoping you'd join in on the calming down of the masses Bruce.
  7. How does TBS not get a close up shot of Pierzynski after the loss? It's what the nation was waiting for.
  8. That said, Theriot's miscue on the hit-and-run groundball should have been an error (base runner doesn't advance to third base if it isn't an error). Batter doesn't get to first if he fields it with his damn glove.
  9. Love the examples you used to prove that the Cubs can't win when it really matters. '69 and '04 couldn't win when it really mattered because the games that mattered were the ones to make the playoffs. '84, '89, '07, and '08 couldn't win when it really mattered because the games that got them into the playoffs didn't matter, only the playoff games. '03 couldn't win when it really mattered because the NLDS games didn't matter that year, only the NLCS. And of course, the reason they couldn't get that kick through the moving goalposts? Their nickname! The color scheme!! The baby bear on the jersey!!!
  10. Unfortunately it is better. We won 0 games in October, and they've won 1 and counting. I hate to admit it, but its completely true. It's completely untrue. People used to celebrate division championships. People used to be proud of a great regular season. Don't let TV convince you that this team wasn't special and didn't accomplish something. We accomplished something sure. I'll look back at the regular season fondly. But the White Sox have accomplished more in their season, having won more postseason games than the Cubs did. The White Sox accomplished more in their postseason. They have not accomplished more in their season. I don't even think I'd give a team an advantage based on playoffs unless they went to the world series. Maybe I'm in the minority, but unless the Dodgers win the NL, I'd say the Cubs accomplished more this season. They don't fly flags for Divisional Series wins. I disagree. I'd consider an 84-win pennant-winning season far and away a bigger success than 97 wins with a first-round NLDS sweep. Winning a Divisional series does not = winning a pennant.
  11. That final score of the Missouri game is a bit misleading and you know it. UI scored a meaningless TD with no time left to bring them back to within 10. And I believe Maclin missed a big portion of the game, too. Was the game a blowout? No. But Mizzou won it fairly handily. C'mon. Don't put me in the lame position of having to defend those clowns. In summary: Donglashings aplenty from the Big 12's top 3 if they played in the Big 10. Aww how nice. Want me to get you a Mizzou shirt? TRUE STORY: Chase Daniel shirts only come in XL (cause he's fat) I thought he needed a big one to dry all the tears.
  12. It means you've posted in that thread.
  13. Being a broadcaster, you realize that unearned runs don't only happen on plays when errors are made. Every 2 out run that scores after an error(or 1 out+ run that scores after 2 errors, etc.) counts as an unearned run. If Z had these meltdowns you mention where all he has to do is get the next batter and he doesn't, then he'd be giving up unearned runs in these situations. He clearly is not. He gave up 3 all season. 5 last year. He hasn't given up a more than usual amount of unearned runs since '03, his first full season.

  15. So who do you think allowed more unearned runs this year. Zambrano or Webb? Zambrano or Peavy? Zambrano or Hamels? Zambrano or Billingsley?
  16. So you'd trade him for one of the best pitchers in baseball? That's just common sense. None of those trades are happening because those pitchers are better than Zambrano. And not because they keep their composure.

  18. I've probably researched and made this post just about every year, and I'm not going to bother now being at work. Regardless, the point is Zambrano doesn't allow any more unearned runs than the average pitcher does. Something you'd expect from somebody who melts down at the first sight of an error.
  19. I'm impressed/shocked that it took this long for somebody to throw Zambrano under the bus for game 2.
  20. Yeah they should lock Theriot and Fontenot alone in a room with Rickey Henderson. Train them to be a leadoff hitter? What does that mean? I bet it means train them to be worse at hitting in the 1 spot than Alfonso Soriano. He can't handle it offensively or defensively. Dempster's success as a closer in '05 - irrelevant. Dempster's success during '08 regular season - irrelevant. Dempster's one postseason start and '07 struggles - the ultimate truth. You could probably get the # of the guy he must've went to in '03 when he carried the team's offense on his back. Or maybe he wasn't a headcase, mental midget, whatever other cliche Bull Durham taught you back in '03.
  21. OK, it was a bad pitch. You can't just disregard circumstance, though. The Dodgers pitchers made bad pitches too. They didn't have a bunch of baserunners on base for theirs because of their defense though.
  22. They seem to like good defenders though.
  23. CC was my thought as to what they'd wind up with since they'd feel the need to do something. All this talk about a left handed power bat though, who knows.
  24. Remember when you came around talking a big game that the Cardinals weren't going away and that we were all blinded by our hatred. And then Cardinals sucked like I told you they did and you went away for awhile. Do that again.
  25. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/deluca/1204233,CST-SPT-deluca06.article Great, it'll look nothing like the players that had the best record in the NL. Bring on the Darin Erstads.
