  1. If Mark Grace became the Cubs color guy I might have to stop watching TV.
  2. Top of my head it'd be that Santana's been better.
  3. This whole Dr. Lou Holtz thing is awe inspiring. Not really in a good way. But still.
  4. Yep, the Cubs should offer a prize package to every massive tool that goes through some melodramatic charade like this. Let that sinkhole in New England absorb this douchebag. He'll fit in perfectly.
  5. Wait when did Peavy become Johan Santana on a Brawndo/HGH cocktail Good lord, If that's not going to get it done. No one else will be get him either. Short of the Red Sox. But that's besides the point anyways. Shark is not being traded this offseason. Peavy and Santana are the #1 and #2 pitchers in baseball, and it's not even particularly close. And since Peavy is under contract for three years, whereas Santana is under contract for one... well, it's gonna be pretty expensive to pick him up.
  6. NSBB ranked them like this(not true rankings as RotY voting has you only vote 3 per league and Soto, Votto, and Jurrjens drew every NL vote. 1. Soto 45 2. Longoria 43 3. Votto 21 4. Ramirez 16 5. Jurrjens 15 6. Span 9 7. Aviles 8 8. Chamberlain 2 9. Ellsbury 2 10.Galaragga 1
  7. Any truth to the rumor that Geo will decline the award?
  8. Just an FYI, it's Mississippi that beat Florida and the Rebels also beat Wake Forest (a top 25 team right now). They're not terrible - not good per say, but also not terrible. I was talking about counting Vandy as a quality win when they lost to the worst team in the SEC. That's why I reference Illinois and Wisconsin as wins over them were [expletive] upon.
  9. This is true. What? Of course that's part of the equation. You think the players don't know the history? You think they don't want to be part of the team that FINALLY does it? Heck, DeRosa even said (on his blog?) after the playoffs that they wanted so badly to finally do it. Every player in the playoffs wants terribly to win. They wouldn't be professional athletes if they thought otherwise. I don't buy the pressing cause of 100 years.
  10. Fine, IU is definitely as bad as Mississippi State. If Illinois or Wisconsin lose to them feel free to not acknowledge those wins against them as nothing but garbage Feel free to kill me too. Bad enough we're looking at a 7-5 season right now.
  11. okay well ohio st is ranked ahead of lsu in both polls, so i guess we can't say lsu (home game, no less) is a better win than a road game against ohio st. georgia is 2 spots ahead of ohio st in both polls and that's neutral vs road. Dammit, beaten. Teetering on the edge = Ohio St. #11. Top 15 in a not at all arbitrary cutoff kinda way = #13 LSU
  12. If there was a team as bad as Mississippi State in the Big 10,(There isn't) and Illinois or Wisconsin lost to them, you'd have point. Mississippi State is just a horrendous football team and they beat Vandy and played LSU close. The SEC is not deep this year and Florida can't sell itself as better than a 0 loss Penn St. team off of beating 8-4 SEC teams.
  13. if penn st. goes undefeated but alabama and a big xii school also go undefeated, i wouldn't be pissed about penn st. not making the championship game. they play in stronger conferences. it's similar to if we hadn't given up the td with time expired against michigan in 2005; texas and usc were undefeated and were better teams than us. the system sucks, but given the system that's in place, you want the best undefeated teams from the best conferences to play for the championship. however, if penn st wins out and florida goes to the championship game ahead of them, i'll be irate. it's not like florida will have a loss like ou's loss at texas on their resume, where you can say "well they just played a team that's tougher than any team psu played." they lost to friggin ole miss at home; penn st has plenty of games that are tougher than that and if they go undefeated, that'll mean they didn't crap themselves against an average team. If Florida wins out, they would of beat LSU (already), at Georgia, at Vandy, and who ever they play in the SEC championship game. By the end of the year, nobody's gona give a [expletive] about beating Vandy.
  14. This is extremely true and I really doubt any of the three make it through without at least one more loss each. The original question, though, was IF all three did win out, who should go to the title game. should or will? If one of the reasons for no playoff is to preserve the sanctity of the regular season, then you have to take the undefeated team(s), right? If Penn State wins out, they should be in. If Penn State has one-loss, they should not get picked over a 1-loss Florida and 1-loss Texas team (if they lose) I tend to think Penn State would go if unbeaten (and it could definitely be justified), but it's also justifiable that Florida would be more deserving - given that they might have three better wins than Penn State would. But they lost a bad Ole Miss team! You can't just overlook their terrible loss.
  15. How bout dumb baseball commentary on radio and in the newspaper? Idiots reign supreme when it comes to sports.
  16. I'm not sure. Before the Cubs, the national media used the playoff failures by the Red Sox to play up the long history of falling short. Since the Red Sox won in 2004, the whole "umpteenth year without a WS" has fallen squarely on the shoulders of Cubs . This wasn't a big issue to the Cubs in 1984 or 89. As a matter of fact both years the media used 1969 as the indicator of how long it's been since the Cubs were that good. So how'd the Red Sox win it in '04 with that on their shoulders.
  17. This is like that 2,000 pound man sketch, and you're Carl Reiner and I'm Police chief Wiggum.
  18. Bonds, Henderson, Mays, A-Rod, Morgan, Griffey, Beltran. Yep. Those are too. All of whom are in the Hall of Fame or will/should be. Yes, even Beltran. I think he's on a HOF projection. Is Soriano on a HOF projection? He's pretty similar to Dawson(Soriano gets 2B credit, Dawson gets CF credit)
  19. Bonds, Henderson, Mays, A-Rod, Morgan, Griffey, Beltran. Yep. Those are too. All of whom are in the Hall of Fame or will/should be. Yes, even Beltran. I think he's on a HOF projection.
  20. Bonds, Henderson, Mays, A-Rod, Morgan, Griffey, Beltran.
  21. For RFs in the hall, BR has Clemente, Aaron, Kaline, Robinson, Williams, Jackson, Winfield and Gwynn.(Their only sorted as a specific OF position if they have the data on games played per position) Top of my head, I don't think Dawson has much of a case over any of these guys. If the case for Dawson is that he's a more deserving corner OF than Lou Brock and Lloyd Waner then I have to say no. It's times like this I really wish I had BR P-I, but top of my head Dawson as a corner OF is pretty similar to Dwight Evans and Jim Rice's careers. Longevity certainly has its value, but Dawson has the same OPS+ as Cliff Floyd. Is a healthy career Cliff Floyd a hall of famer? Is Moises Alou + 3 seasons a hall of famer?(10 points better) How bout Bobby Bonilla?(3 seasons less, but half his career at 3B to go with his 5 point advantage) Rusty Staub? There's a bunch of similar corner OFs who aren't sniffing the HOF. His case depends on his CF play.
  22. To me, Dawson's case comes down to the CF issue and if you want to give him some extra credit for years lost in CF(along with speed on the basepaths) thanks to playing on cement in Montreal. For a RF, his numbers don't do it.
  23. As a centerpiece, no. As a throw in, I bet you'll find a few GMs that would love to get him packed into a deal. He's not even from Texas.
  24. Dawson's pretty borderline. Tram and Raines should have/should fly in.
  25. Pence is from Texas so Meph overvalues him? I don't know, I can't think of a rational reason why he thinks the Padres would do that.
