  1. Come on, the White Sox offense is easily better than San Diego's, as is their rotation and pen outside of Peavy. Plus the White Sox are committed to winning and operate a payroll that reflects that, while the Padres are being held to a $40 million payroll. There's a huge difference. But if I'm Peavy I'm thinking that if the White Sox aren't my ideal destination, its very likely that more of these deals will pop up over the course of the next 2 months. Not the best stat to quote but the Sox have 7 more runs than the Pads and they play in a hitters park in the AL. The season's not over yet. The White Sox hitters have a much better track record over their careers than the Padres hitters sans Gonzalez. But they're all 54 years old.

If you want to get technical, the Pads have a better record than the Sox.
  3. Linebrink says it's 50-50, according to Toni Ginnetti at the Sun-Times. Joe Cowley reports Peavy would want his 22M option in 2013 picked up.
  4. In addition to Peavy liking to hit, he'd also be going from probably the best pitcher's park in baseball, to a hitter's park. The Cell isn't Coors '96, but this (plus the higher run environment in AL) would hurt his legacy(and wallet)
  5. No, that was the offer Ping tossed out. The Richard, Poreda, 2 PTBNL is what's being tossed around. Last I heard Peavy was going to reject.
  6. Gavin Floyd has a fluky 19 Unearned Runs last year, artificially propping up his ERA. He's really not very good. I'd take Marshall 10 times out of 10 over him. Marshall has the better minor league and major league history. Floyd has been nothing special over the past 5 years or so.
  7. Lillibridge is garbage. Floyd is fluky garbage, and Poreda's a decent prospect. I mean, what's the equivalent trade for the Cubs? Aaron Miles, Sean Marshall, and Jay Jackson? Yes, Jay Jackson and Poreda are the same? Yes, Floyd and Marshall are the same? Yes, Miles and Lillibridge are the same? Are you serious or just trying to cute and witty to seem smarter than everyone? Poreda is clearly better than Jackson, but the Cubs don't have a pitching propsect on his level. Marshall is better than Floyd. Brent Lillibridge and Aaron Miles are both terrible baseball players, Miles just costs more. I can't believe you're honestly proposing Lillibridge as a serious part of a trade package.

  9. Why in the [expletive] do you bring the IF in with men on 1st and 3rd and 1 out?
  10. The best part about blaming things on mental makeup is you're always right. Those guys lost!! Oh, they had poor mental makeup. Those guys won!! Good mental makeup on those young chaps.
  11. I don't get the love for Blair.
  12. What did the Braves do differently in 1995? What did the Yankees decide to stop doing after 2000? How did roughly the same Red Sox team go from sweeping the world series to getting swept in the ALDS the next year? Etc. Etc.
  13. New Orleans is not some magical location that isn't have blackout rules: MLB has them marked as a Houston/Texas market. http://www.bizofbaseball.com/images/MLB_Blackout_Map1000x733.gif Windemeier will stop at nothing.
  14. And yeah, I lose for being the first one to snap at this idiocy.
  15. The most anyone can do is recognize a pattern and do something different the next time. Well what's the [expletive] pattern??? Tell me what the [expletive] is this mystical [expletive] that each of the past 10 world series winners have had in common??
  16. I'm really glad the year we fought the Illinois football team was the year they went 1-11.
  17. It's like 2007, only the Cubs are actually good.
  18. Gamel also had an error in his 1st game in the Majors. His defense is going to hurt that team, more than its going to help them. Just about everyone at one point or another will make a "great" play. Its the routine plays that Gamel cant make. See his throwing error from his night as evidence. His throwing error came on about as easy a play a 3B gets too.
  19. That's how I felt about the whole Eric Gordon situation. Nobody woulda cared if EJ wasn't very good. I was furious when you guys scored Tijan Jobe.
  20. Cant tell if your kidding or not, but Rickie Weeks injury doesnt make us the favorites to win any more than Aramis going down makes the Brewers favorites to win. If Gamel becomes an every day player, this could make the Brewers offense better. Mat Gamel is a horrendous defender and Craig Counsel will be playing close to every day. until they find a replacement.
  21. I'm not bitter, I just hate them and want them to fail.
  22. Didn't ESPN.com run an article the other day about MLB teams using the DL creatively to keep from having to released high priced players that haven't been living up to their contract? We could do that for Patton if they're so worried about losing him. There's a minimum # of days he has to be on the active roster in order to be able to send him down next year. If memory serves, it's all of them. Basically, any time he spends on the DL this year, he would have to make up on the active roster next year before we would be able to send him down. If you trust Wikipedia as a source, it's only 90 days. I thought it was 120, but it might be 90 pre-September days. I know there are exceptions for September rosterings in some regard because of expanded rosters.
  23. I don't know what to say besides may the UK fall from grace be swift and SMUish.
