  1. Breaking down at an early age and a guy with absurd movement on his pitches. I think it's pretty clear they're 2 of the worst offenders.
  2. So does the game of baseball in general. I really don't see the point in flipping out over someone using a corked bat when most players are doing every little thing they can to gain an advantage. It's part of baseball. Keeping someone out of the hall for that would be like keeping out one of the best pitchers of an era because he got caught once with sandpaper. Like I said, he got caught for the bat and was suspended. That shouldn't keep him out. Like it or not, nothing and nobody has come even remotely close to busting him when it comes to steroids. That doesn't mean he didn't use them, but for now he should be judged based on his performance. The corked bat should have negligable impact in that regard since use of them over his career would have been detrimental to his numbers. I just meant that the cork incident is relevant in the speculation of him using drugs because it shows that he has cheated before I really hope George Brett gets kicked out of the hall of fame.
  3. But they didn't restock. Unless the A Ball guy becomes something, this is an awful trade. Gorkys Hernandez is another tools goof with no power and Morton is a 4th-5th starter.
  4. Which actually doesn't help hitters. lol...which one?...because the last time i checked they both did Didn't help Hank Aaron that much.
  5. This thread has been everything I've hoped for. I really hope by time I wake up tomorrow we can get this to 3 pages or so. I hope Cynosure posts a lot more too.
  6. I know this has been brought up before but who was the pro athlete that had his own website and it revealed he was as dumb as like a 3rd grader? Late 90s I want to say.
  7. Any time you give up a HR to one of the worst players in baseball, you cost us the game.
  8. I think they would. There were multiple teams interested in him at the price Hendry ended up paying at the time the Cubs signed him.. Did his agent tell you that or Jim Hendry? Nobody was signing anybody at the time they got Miles. The only active teams were the Yankees signing the big tickets items, and everybody else was sitting on their hands waiting out the market. And Hendry got aggressive going after an unnecessary utility man who was non-tendered by a division rival that has to actually think when they spend money. The reports that I read said that Miles had an offer from the Cards for about the same money when he signed with the Cubs. The Cardinals non-tendered him. There's virtually no way they found it a better deal to sign him to a 2Y/5M deal vs. whatever shitty arbitration award he'd get.
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we need Alex Wilson's permission to draft him again?
  10. Yeah, you're right - he was on the DL to start the year. I had forgotten. I just wonder what, if anything, the Os fixed with him. And whether or not the Cubs would have found the same thing. If anything, its just his confidence. He could lose that on any given play for no reason at all. It probably helps not having Lou as his manager ready to pull him the first time he walks 2 guys in an inning.
  11. Did I miss something?
  12. I thought we went with 10 last year. ESPN's stats from last year have us with only 9 pitchers seeing action. Those 9 + Howry and Lilly.
  13. Teams should go with 10 pitchers in the postseason. 9 isn't enough. Every manager goes with at least 11 though cause they're afraid they'll have Aaron Miles pitching the 18th. Managers are paranoid little weirdos.
  14. Morgan is right but he's wrong. He's right that it's stupid to focus on making your team more left-handed, but not because it's focusing on the playoffs before you get there. It's stupid because you had the best damn offense in the NL last year, and you're weighting 3 [expletive] GAMES over the other 162. ETA: My favorite part of the get more left handed nonsense is that the only 2 guys to have better than terrible serieses were right handers. And they got rid of one of them.
  15. Why? It might actually get us an ok live arm from A ball that way. And it's not Rich's fault that there was no spot here.
  16. Pansies. I'm not a fan of either team, but that game is usually a heck of a lot more entertaining than most opening weekend garbage. Why not play 1 quality non-con opponent? I understand losing a home game hurts, but come on, give the fans a show. I like the whole 1/2 and 1/2 crowd thing in the border city, too. Until some sort of rule is made, no one is going to play anybody OOC. Outside of traditional rivalries, only Ohio State (give them some credit even though they have 8 home games every year) and USC seem interested in playing ANYONE outside their conference. The game's being dropped because Illinois wants 7 home games, not because they're pansies The next 2 years they have Missouri, Fresno, and Cincy. In '11(1 open spot) and '12(3 open spots) they have Arizona St.
  17. Ignoring for a moment that Lee won't be going anywhere with that no trade clause of his, but why would the Padres have any interest whatsover in Derrek Lee? They have a guy in AAA that could provide better production than Lee, and at league minimum. I also don't mean to be rude, but do you honestly believe that the current home run leader in the NL and his puny contract (he makes a little more than twice as much as Aaron Miles) couldn't net a way better package from just about any other team in baseball? Meh, I just threw the idea off the wall after I heard someone say the Padres could be looking to move him. I'd probably move heaven and earth to take a shot. A short discussion with a friend of mine convinced me it'd be easier than I thought to grab him. it probably wouldn't be that hard if the cubs had a better farm system san diego isn't going to be looking for guys making big bucks...they would want solid, young prospects for AGonz... maybe the white sox? The White Sox don't have solid young prospects.
  18. There are 30 teams.
  19. Santos has a career 650 minor league OPS and he's 29 years old. Castro was the best of their 3 catchers and they just gave him away so they could keep a 29 year old minor leaguer and the dried up husk of Brian Schneider's career.
  20. Getting Marmol warmed up in the 9th was really unneccessary. Patton/Waddell should have pitched at some point. If they can't be trusted with a 7 run lead, they shouldn't be on the team.
  21. How does Soriano's defense pass the test? Probably by being good.
  22. Minaya's gonna feel really stupid when he finds out Broadway is white. What a horrible trade by the Mets.
