  1. I would rather see the Cubs get Griffey, Jr., than Reuter.
  2. I disagree with you. I didn't really see any name-calling, and very little 'ugliness'. I also disagree with your assertion that '(Cardinal fans would have been long-ago banned from this board for such behavior, and if I retliate in kind, I'll surely be gone).', because that is simply not true. It smacks of the children from CardsTalk who come over here and post 'Cubs Suck, you guys are morans', and then complain because they get banned. Go figure. Nobody wants you to 'conform', however, your arguments were continuously beating the same points over and over again. When several other posters refuted this with more detailed statistical information, you either ignored it, or fell back on your previous argument, as if the new information brought into the discussion had no bearing. Please, don't martyr yourself here. You are welcome for debate, and the same rules apply to everyone, but you have to at least TRY to find the middle ground. If that middle ground can't be found, you just agree to disagree, and that's it. JMHO.
  3. This is the best, most compelling argument you have made, IMO. Let's see how it turns out, and may the best pitcher win!
  4. This just in: MLB announced today that they have changed the name of the NL Cy Young award to the 'Pitcher with the most complete games award'. In advance of the end of the season, they've decided to give the award to Chris Carpenter. It will be presented to Carpenter in K-Town.
  5. In almost every K-Town post, it is downplaying Clemen's achievements this season. It has become VERY obvious that K-Town not only thinks Carpenter should win Cy this year, but that Clemens should not. Conversely, Truffle, Warpticon, et. Al., are not convinced to abandon their support for Clemens, despite K-Town's best efforts to discredit him. Am I reading correctly? Is there some partisanship involved here? Perhaps. Therefore, I respectfully submit that neither one of these positions is going to change, as it appears there is no middle ground.
  6. Cubs got taken out behind the woodshed tonight. Man, those pitchers gotta learn how to throw strikes with out throwing a meatball!
  7. Are you making light of his ERA? Uh, I mean...., it's pretty close to brilliant. No. I'm not making fun of his ERA. I've said many times in this thread that Clemens is having a spectacular season. Can you explain why he hasn't been able to finish any games, or did you just stop by to critique my post? Critique? I just asked a question - sorry to bother you. I don't know why he has no CG's, but I'll guess it's because he's old.
  8. Are you making light of his ERA? Uh, I mean...., it's pretty close to brilliant.
  9. That's incident I was referring to; I mean what exactly was he arguing about? We don't know what was said from either side, and likely never will know.
  10. Thanks for the input! My take, FWIW, on the Oswalt/Barrett incident. I think it became pretty much common knowledge that Oswalt purposely hit Barrett last year. Generally, I don't think it's that big of a deal to have an HBP, as long as the pitcher is not throwing at the noggin. Barrett, however took exception to being thrown at. I didn't have a problem with him being pissed at Oswalt, and really, if he wanted to take it up with Oswalt, that's his prerogative, but I think he was wrong to interrupt the game to confront him the way he did. He could have just asked the pitcher to hit Oswalt, and never said a word. He could have confronted Oswalt off the field, or outside the game. I thought that by doing that in the middle of the game like he did was bad form. Something about Barrett seems to really egg the Cardinal fans. Some of the comments above shed a little light on that.
  11. Why would the Cards trade him? He's signed through 2007 with an option for 2008. I was making a (very small) joke.
  12. Clemens will win. IMO. Carpenter should start seeing how he looks in Yankee pinstripes.
  13. So, I still don't get it. Ya, ya, ya, Barrett has problems with Oswalt. So what. Why does a Cardinal fan care?
  14. Ok, so why would that make Cardinal fans dislike him?
  15. Thanks for your vast input, however, that's kind of weak. Not really what I was trying to find out. I mean, if that's it, all the Cub players would receive that. No, I have observed that Barrett seems to get more, and I don't understand it.
  16. I have noticed some real hate being thrown Michael Barrett's way from 'baseball's best fans'. Any of you folks know what's up with that?
  17. Really, I agree with this sentence. Remember Wavin' Wendell? No? Well, thank God for Speier - he has gone pretty much unnoticed, which for a 3rd base coach, is a good thing. He's done a fine job.
  18. I think we should change the knickname of this year's edition of The Chicago National League Ballclub from the Cubs to the Sybills. The Chicago Sybills...you just never know which team will show up!
  19. CCF, I agree with the other fellas, don't leave. I know there's alot of negativity here these days, but it will subside (I hope). Are you going to the Lincoln Square Oktoberfest Sep 9, 10, & 11? I am planning on it!
  20. So, what's the point of this thread? Hill has had a rough go of it lately, so the Cubs should have dumped him (and others, presumably) to get Adam Dunn? That would be short-sighted, and just plain dumb, IMO. It's too soon to see if Hill will become something. I don't think it's funny that Hill is struggling right now either. He has been brought up a bit soon, IMO. Dunn is a good player, but not the end-all, to be all. Hill is a valued commodity in his own right, who needs a little more development.
  21. Well, then you don't know jack. I agree with you. Nomar hasn't really done squat for the Cubs. Injured, or not, he has really been pretty much a non-factor.
  22. What's one more year of a contract where we only pay Baker, what is it, $4 million? The Cubs ate far more than that to unload Sosa, so I don't know what's so magic about 2006. This franchise is getting worse, not better. Leaving Dusty in there for another season only will make the team that much worse. I certainly can relate to the sentiment of your post, and I agree with it, however, in my opinion, Baker is not leaving until his contract is up.
  23. Baker is going nowhere until after 2006. This year is teaching valuable lessons. I hope Jim Hendry is paying attention.
  24. That radio station is a part owner of the Giants too.
  25. I'm guessing bathroom and/or refreshment break?? Yes, even Pat Hughes eats, drinks, and pees.
