  1. 8 runs might not be enough if you have to go to the pen. I want the Cub team that the starter goes eight and the closer shuts down the ninth. That's the team I want too!! :D The offence seems to be a little more consistent with Hairston and Walker 1 and 2, but that bullpen is soooooooo very inconsistent. The Cardinals will have our bullpen for lunch. JMHO.
  2. I understand the frustration, but what do you really think you could get for Wood right now. I can see them moving him to the pitching starved Rangers for a player like Mench (who I like A LOT!). If they did that, they would probably still have to pick up a ton of his contract. No team is looking to get a 10 mil a year injury prone starter. Every reason you would like to get rid of him is why he will be hard to move. Potential can only get you so far. (are you listening corey patterson?) I didn't say to trade him now, what I did say was to get him healthy enough to trade him in the off season. The only sticking point is his no trade contract. Other than that, I think teams would be lined up around the corner to get Wood and his contract. Going to Texas for Mench would be a fabulous deal. When does his current contract expire?
  3. Will you shave one off if they sweep? No...., no shaving, but I would raise both of them..., just like Dan Plesac's wierd eyebrows. If the Cubs sweep, I'll raise you your raised eyebrows for a body painted Cubs logo streaking incident. I might pay to see that! Go Cubbies!!!
  4. Ugh, man people are stupid. There's a few good posters on that board, but not many anymore...and the mountain of trash you have to sift through to find the nuggets makes it a waste of time. Obviously, there are many children posting on that forum, as well as many adults who act like children. Is it just me, or is every other thread on there about the Cubs? Even the threads that aren't about the Cubs turn into Cubs threads somehow. Typical thread on Cards Talk: Post 1: Hey, we won again last night. Great game. Post 2: Yeah, our pitching was awesome. Post 3: Kerry Wood is hurt again. Cubs fans are stupid. Pujols is better than Lee. Blah Blah Blah. Post 4: You know who I hate? Cubs fans. They're really stupid. They won't let me post on NSBB. I was going to tell them they suck. It was going to be funny. Post 5: Dude, that would've been an awesome post! They really do suck! NSBB is a bunch of Nazis. They're getting to be like Sox fans... they care more about a Cubs loss than a Cards win. (Not all of them, there are a few good posters left. But that board has gone straight down hill) At least the Cards fans here are actually smart, intelligent baseball fans. They represent the good side of Cardinal fans. I certainly can agree with that!! We have some pretty good Cardinal fans here. I agree with your assessment of Cards Talk as well. It used to be a good place to go talk baseball, and there were some VERY good posters there, but now it's just Cub bashing, and more Cub bashing, just for the sake of it. A little rivlary sparring is one thing, but name-calling and trolling is just out of hand there. They complain about 'Cub Trolls', but then half of their threads are about the Cubs. Funny stuff!

  7. Ooooohhh yes, I hope so. I am very excited to see if the improved Cub lineup can only hit crappy pitching (Reds, Pirates), or if they can actually beat a good team. This will be a good 'measuring stick' for the revamped lineup. IMO, the Cubs probably win one. If they can take two, I might raise an eyebrow.
  8. I remember one time, I went fishing, and had a carp on the line, but I lost it. That made me happy because I didn't lose my tackle. :D 8)
  9. The Sox have the most balanced pitching staff in the AL. Top to bottom, they have the most balance, IMO. They will make the playoffs, and I think they have as good a shot as anybody. However, if a team gets hot like Boston did last year (and Florida the previous year) during the playoffs - it won't matter. Heck the Sox *could* be that team that gets hot.
  10. I have always felt that those blue shirts make them look like the clubhouse boys. I agree wholeheartedly about the pinstripes though - very cool! 8)
  11. AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!! The blue unis belong in the trash, IMO. I really like the home pinstripes - classic and a good look too.
  12. "It's like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife..." No, that's just bad luck, not irony. And where the heck would you find 10,000 spoons, except for at the spoon factory? And even in that case, who goes to a spoon factory looking for a knife? That's bad planning. Additionally, who brings a knife to a gun fight?
  13. I think the Pads are ugly...., and, um...., oh yeah, I despise the 'birds on the bat'.
  14. Sorry, but I have to do it. He gone!
  15. As of today: Cardinals 59-32 Cubs 46-45 if Cardinals play .500 from here on out, they finish at 95-67. Just to catch them, the Cubs would have to play .690 ball (49-22) the rest of the way. Given the level of talent in both of these teams, it is very, VERY, VERY remote that both of those things would happen, let alone ONE of those things occur. It's not going to happen. The division race in the NL Central is over, IMO. Let's go get that Wild Card, and root, root, root for those Cardinals when they are playing everybody but the Cubbies
  16. Not only that, I am certain that he will murder Cub pitching. :x
  17. Maybe so. The Red will posess more challenges for our starting pitching. But the bottom line though is, they're doing pretty much exactly what they should have done in the first half of the season. Yes the ERA's will be higher against the Reds, but we should be able to score at will against their JV pitching staff. Which is what worries me. Hey guys....I went to Thursday's and Friday's games. The Pirates do suck. I think that they're just terrible. No depth, and not much offencive punch at all. If they hadn't gotten the fantastic outing from that Duke kid on Saturday, they would have been swept. That guy had a great curve. I actually think he prepped them for Wells. Wells had a decent curve, but he started hanging them a bit, and the Cubs figured it out pretty quickly. The Cubbies HAVE to take the series in Cincy, and really, they need to take two of three in Saint Louis. It won't happen, but hey, I can dream. Realistically, three of four in Cincy, and one win in Saint Louis is an achievable goal, IMO.
  18. Like I needed another reason to dismiss everything Skip Bayless writes. There's no way 3,000+ hits and 500+ homers won't get him into the HOF. I agree. Maybe not on the first ballot, but definitely, he's in.
  19. Johnny Bench was a career .267 hitter. Jeez, who would want a guy like that? OK, before anyone jumps on me, I'm not saying that Dunn = Bench, but really who cares if Dunn hit .250 if you get run production and he is at least average defencively? BTW, I'm not quite sold on Dunn yet, but the comment on his .250 BA being bad doesn't hold water based on his overall offencive productivity.
  20. When he popped out to first base in his last at bat, he ran so hard he was halfway to second when the ball was caught. I don't think you have to worry about that sort of thing with Murton. Yeah, I saw that too. He's has very good speed. I'm not worried - just calling it like I saw it.
  21. Did that appear on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post?
  22. Murton pretty much non-chalanted that single and allowed those runners to advance, then the guy scored on a groundout. Shoulda been a shutout. Not a good play for a rookie to be making, IMO, because he really looked like a loafer.
  23. I think that note is well-founded. 'Trust' a Sox fan :?:
  24. I saw Ronny 'Woo Woo' Wickers at Wrigley Field yesterday. :P
