  1. I challenge anybody to name a better one. 1971 baltimore orioles? http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/BAL/1971.shtml
  2. i wonder what were the huge factors. a return to the nl? easiest path to playoffs (though rangers and yankees were pretty good bets)?
  3. Not putting in transactions, but it won't ever happen. But fun article to read if you like to be teased http://www.businessinsider.com/the-best-place-for-albert-pujols-in-2012-the-chicago-cubs-2010-12
  4. eh, i think the direction is fine. if we catch a few breaks, this team could win 88 or so games and possibly take the division. if things don't look good come august, then pena (and possibly garza too) are very tradeable. the less long term deals hendry hands out this season, the better.
  5. so you'd rather have the guy with a low batting average who draws walks and hits home runs over the guy with a low batting average who draws walks and hits home runs? he'd rather have the guy with better production carlos pena and adam dunn will have very similar production next season.
  6. so you'd rather have the guy with a low batting average who draws walks and hits home runs over the guy with a low batting average who draws walks and hits home runs?
  7. sure. 200 innings of above average to good production for the past 3 seasons and he's only 27.
  8. agreed. i'm a little surprised at the lack of excitement about this possibility.
  9. as the near perfect game showed, galaragga is a nice guy and you can't have too many good character guys on a team.
  10. Gorzelanny for Armando Galaragga? http://www.thecubreporter.com/2010/12/07/2010-winter-meetings-day-two
  11. Pena for 2/14 is a very fair offer and I'd be happy to see it happen
  12. i'm guessing werth wasn't interested in the nationals, so the gm asked what it would take for him to sign there, so werth throws out some ridiculous figure thinking the nats will stop bothering him.
  13. Well, they're talking to Crawford and would have to move one of their outfielders. That said, Swisher is a huge fan favorite. Gardner would then probably be the odd man out.
  14. I don't think the Yankees have much interest at all in trading Swisher
  15. I'm pretty sure I heard Mark Grace say on XM Radio that Ron Santo was a better 3B statistically than Mike Schmidt.
  16. Man, I'm taking this news a lot harder than I thought I would. RIP Ron
  17. isn't he supposed to be really good defensively? if we didn't already have byrd, i'd take a flier on ellsbury. great defense, excellent base stealer, young.
  18. everyone looks good playing the Bengals, though except the ravens
  19. The thing is ... with more teams making the playoffs, the championship is cheapened somewhat. I want the moment when the Cubs win the World Series to be difficult, effortful, and therefore tremendously rewarding. i don't think we're in a position to be picky about how the cubs win a championship.
  20. I'm for it without Rothschild. He's one of the best pitchers in baseball if you pretend he was never a Yankee. If he comes cheap Hendry should be all over that.
  21. can leo mazzone be lured out of retirement?
  22. Not only am I shocked that Felix won the Cy Young, I'm more shocked that it wasn't even close.
  23. poor votto still can't get any love
