  1. I don't know what this means, but I'm pretty sure you're wrong in your assessment. But it's a lot easier to label people who disagree with you or other traditionalists as people who blindly follow Moneyball and James without having their own thoughts.
  2. Please let it be true. http://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/content/sports/reds/daily/0124redsside.html
  3. ME ME ME i want to improve my record to 0-5
  4. I would submit to you that a certain beat writer, who happens to frequent our board and occasionally chat with us, was probably involved somehow someway. If I recall, Miller's name first surfaced in said beat writer's column in late December. I bet Miller wasn't even on Hendry's radar until he read that in the beat writer's column. Just a theory mind you. If Hendry needed to read Bruce Miles's column to know that Wade Miller was available, then he's the worst GM in the world. His job is to know who's available and if he's worth getting. Jeeze.
  5. Barry Bonds is now out of the WBC. http://barrybonds.mlb.com/players/bonds_barry/journal/latest.html
  6. The new owner guaranteed a world series trophy relatively soon. With their usual explosive offense, it might be bad news if they get an owner willing to open up the wallet and get some good pitching. Maybe the Cubs can then become the 5th worst team in the division!
  7. How can you pencil in Juan Pierre at a .350 OBP when he didn't come close last year to reaching .350? Michaels does have a low slugging percentage, but it's also a lot higher than Juan's.
  8. Jim already thinks he has the best leadoff hitter in baseball, so it's not worth thinking about. :(
  9. The fact that we can't get anything good for Walker is all the more reason we should keep him.

    LET'S DO THIS SEATTLE
  11. You know it's a matter of time til something like that happens in one of the big 4 in USA.
  12. The people who love Grace as a Cub better not be the same ones who want Walker gone because of his big mouth.
  13. I hope everyone realizes that Jacque Jones at his absolute best (.300/.341/.511) is slightly above average for corner outfield production, and not that much better than what Sammy Sosa gave us in 2004. And the fact that Jones' production has been falling consistently, it'll be a miracle of we get Jones' celing production, which isn't that spectacular as it is.
  14. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I swear when we first got Hairston, it was acknowledged that his defense at second base was sub-par. Now everyone is changing their tune. Or am I way off?
  15. I have tons of baseball cards signed by various players, using the old SASE method. Most of them forgettable 90's mediocre baseball players. It was a lot of fun though, checking the mail everyday to see if something got returned. As far as autographed baseballs, I only have 2. One is Frank Thomas. :( This was after I moved from Chicago, and before I had the internet, so I liked the White Sox and thought the world of Frank Thomas, since I never had any negative encounters with Sox fans or pro-Sox media. Good thing the internet made me see the light. And I also happen to have God's autograph on a baseball. thx vance
  16. steelers fans being obnoxious jerks???????
  17. Somewhat discussed in baseball discussions. The poll's probably been done before, but here it goes anyways.
  18. I'd personally prefer Reggie Sanders or Preston Wilson considering the contracts they signed.
  19. There's only 3 divisions. Based on your sentence, the NL Central is also the 2nd strongest division in the league.
  20. in 2 seasons the cubs have never won when i started a game thread i'm pretty sure i should start the season
  21. No, they shouldn't.
  22. Walker Murton Lee Ramirez Jones Barrett Pierre Cedeno
  23. Didn't he already pass that point in his career in his last season here in Chicago ? He should have stopped right after we lost against the Marlins - he had some huge homers and good games. But I guess this really shows he was only playing for himself afterall..... Come on, after the shots he was hitting in the 03 playoffs, you didn't honestly think he was going to decline as much as he did in 04. Of course, we'd all be thrilled if Jacque Jones gave us .253/.332/.517 35 HR 80 RBI that Sammy put up in his 2004 decline.
  24. So basically he was being drunk at a bachelor party.
