  1. is there any report on how well Wood is pitching.....? Is he lighting up the radar gun with triple figures?
  2. I like the move. Face it, tonight we had Koyie Hill as our catcher. A career minor leaguer. Kendel may not be the player he was three years ago but our team is just a little bit better. Maybe not a lot better but just a little bit. That may be enough to win a weak NL central. Blevins may down the road be a loss but as a Chicago team with the money they can make in tv revenue etc. we should be able to buy any player we want.
  3. Dye is the move to make.......I bet the Sox would ask alot to help the Cubs....One of the Cubs top prospects like Patterson or a pitcher like Veal.
  4. Maybe he has a chance.......He brings news and media coverage to MLB. He has certainly been great for the NBA. Sure he stirs up trouble sometimes cut coverage is coverage. If baseball wants to compete with the NFL agin this is the type of owner they need,,,, oh well
  5. could the cubs trade jone to Japan? its either there or the Northern league. Everytime I see him in the line up it just makes me angry.
  6. Nobody wants JJ. The only way he is traded is if we pay the contract. Either he will be released or traded with the cubs paying his way. It is time to cut bait with some of these bad players. I like Howry and Eyre but it is time to start to make players accountable and if the cannot produce c-ya!
  7. There are two possible good ways to go here...You can either resign him or trade him...Either one could be debated, but both are possible good decisions.... This means the Cubs will probably do niether and lose him in free agency
  8. That is good to hear...Everyone was so negative when the Cubs took him. Its nice to hear that we might actually have a position player who can hit..
  9. Isn't he playing CF...Does he project as a CF or is he corner outfielder who hits like Murton....?
  10. This is a message board...Nothing here is serious....No ones career is on the line...Unless you are Jim Hendry that is...
  11. When JJ was a free agent how many teams showed interest in him...I can only remember KC and the Cubs... Did the Twins offer him a contract? I just don't think JJ is a very tradeable/valueable asset.Unless the Cubs pay his contract I just don't see the Cubbies getting much back.
  12. My point is you have to do what is right for your team today and not keep paying for past mistakes....Jones is not a horrible player and could be all right on a team that could score a lot of runs...This Cubs team like all the rest(except maybe the second half of '03) cannot score....Hendry, for his 100 mil dollar ball club has put together a good team of individual players but has not been able to put together a team..... Simply put this team cannot score enough run consistantly to win more than 80 games(I'm being generous).. Why should we have any faith in Hendry...This entire Cubs orginization is run poorly...We draft poor---we develop poor....We don't spend money wisely year after year......We spent 100+mil on a lead off hitter who cannot lead off....Next it will be a number 1 starter that has to pitch on the 2nd day because he cannot take the pressure There are more bizarre plays day after day......... Well, that's a fine bit of tough talk, but do you have anything to back it up? You don't know that nobody wanted Jones this offseason. It's just as likely that the Cubs didn't want to trade him until they could find a CFer that they liked. I agree that the A's aren't likely to trade for Jones, but then again, no one is claiming that they would. The trade being discussed in which the Cubs would get Blanton from the A's has Murton going to Oakland not Jones. And finally, if you truly think the Cubs should simply release Jones, then we will have to agree to disagree. Among all qualified major league RFers last season, Jones ranked 7th in OPS. He's not the greatest RFer out there. But he has enough value to avoid being cut without getting anything in return.
  13. Only the Cubs would be dumb enough....So it won't work... Just mark the box that reads "DFA" for Jones and Ohman and Eyre...
  14. Trade him....I don't think tying up 18 mil for 5 years for any pitcher is a good idea but one that is a head case...Not the face of the franchise... But I wouldn't trust Hendry to make a smart move either way...He should have been fired along with MacPhail and Busty the clown
  15. There is noway that the A's would trade for Jones....In fact the only team that would even want Jones would make the Cubs pay his salary...Nobody wanted Jones this offseason, why would a team trade for him now..He is the '07's version of Todd Walker, his only value is on this dissussion board. The Cubs should just release him...
  16. I'd like to see the Dope Slaps return. just make contact...the hr's will come
  17. A lot of posters think Hendry should be fired because of his moves on the major league roster....I think he should be fired for his lack of progress in the minor leagues,,,, Our system is horrible....we either draft or develop poorly probably both
  18. Why does every trade rumor for the mets involve Lastings Milledge. Do the Mets really want to trade him or is he there only chip... I guess I question if the Mets really like him and if they don't what is his true value...
  19. Pie, might be ready if they bat him 7th in the lineup and let him develop with out a huge amount of pressure to produce from the get go. of course the cubs will make him bat leadoff and ruin him like they did Patterson. I read somewhere that EPatt was moving to center field...Is there some thought that EPatt is better or closer to the Cubs then Pie?
  20. for a lot less than 12 mil too....or sign giles for 5 mil
  21. money aside....ok besides alot of money The Mariners get a Major league player for prospects before they loose there total value.... The Cubs should make more of these types of deals, they usually don't because our farm system is devoid of position players and our pitchers usually get hurt... What is the problem with our farm system anyway....Do we draft poorly or do we just not develop the players The answer probably both
  22. Giles is the type a player the Cardinals pick up and is a thorn in the Cubs side all year long..... We should sign him to a one year deal and if anything trade him at the deadline
  23. I, for one, don't mind this method too much. If you miss something in a 40-page thread it's hard to get caught up. THis is why I turn away from this site more often...I like information and rumors etc...I hate the fact that this turns into a chat site....40 page threads.....time to go!!!!!!!!!
  24. Veal in any deal is a high price...If the Cubs are to trade him they better get someone with proven major league hitting ability...We've heard for years about can't miss prospects that miss
