If Mike Lowell turns out not to be part of the AJ burnett deal I would suggest that the Cubs swoop in and grab him....We could always use more pitching
Did Brian Dopirak get demoted? I recieve a news letter from Kevin Goldstein of BA and he has Dope playing in low A....He has made mistakes before....Does anybody have further information?
I hope he does succeed but I don't have a lot of faith that he will ever develop.....He failed at least 2 years(or was it 3?) at daytona.... He can hit against kids 2 or 3 years younger but until he hits at West Tenn we shouldn't get to excited
The Money Ball book basically ripped other GMs (ha Kenny Williams) and people still deal with Billy Bean.....That said, Pittsburg might think twice about dealing with Hendry............
I would love to have Lofton back and play him in LF. He might be a guy we could acquire after the deadline..... I hope Hendry doesn't try to fill leftfield with just a guy who could hit HRs for us and strike out on a regular basis....They should just stand pat and not do anything rather bring in Preston Wilson for one year... The problem with our offense is our leadoff hitter or lack there of.....Sure Lofton isn't going to hit 3-run homers like Wilson could but DLee can't hit 3-run homers either because nobodies ever on base..... Of course Adam Dunn could change my thought process...
Dunn, although he has some non=desirable qualities can be a differance maker.... He's what 25 or 26.....He will get better.....He won't be cheap to trade for but he is a guy that could be in Cubby blue for a long time I think if we trade for him it will cost US Dunn for Cedeno, Hill, Williams
I wouldn't hesitate to trade Rich Hill for a really good player. But Kevin Millwood isn't really good. The Cubs don't need him nearly as much as some other teams with starting pitcher problems might. I'm not pushing Hill out the door either, I just see Prior out until Aug. and Wood, maybe back soon but who knows....I think this team has a chance to make a bid at the WC even though they played like crap the last 2 nights... Millwood, "I think" would give us a better chance at reaching the playoffs than either Mitre(Frank Castillo jr.) or Kronka(future loogy at best).... I guess if no trade is close bring up J.Williams and Hill now. Either has to be an upgrade to Mitre I hope.
I'll kill myself if we trade Hill for the super overrated Millwood. You've made that empty threat before. Maybe if we would have traded Sisco and Guzman last year or the Year before for a closer we would have gone to the playoffs or even more... Instead we have nothing, make the trades that help your Major League team, not your triple A team..... Sisco and Guzman last year weren't Hill this year. Hill is performing at a high level, the other guys didn't do much. And Millwood isn't a difference maker. The Cubs are not a middle of the rotation starter away from winning big. Whats winning big? Staying in the WC race? We are what 7 back of the Cards, if we can't catch them soon should we start to unload then? I think Millwood would keep us competitive and give us a chance to win later.... Is Rich Hill that good? Is he one of the 5 or 6 prospects you would protect ...? What's a fair trade for a quality 3rd or 4th starter....

On the other hand, if the Cubs had kept Dontrelle Willis instead of trading him for help for the ML team they wouldn't need Millwood. Matty was a quality player for us.....Anyways, if the D-train continues we should buy him back when he becomes to expensive for FL....

I would make the Trade today if I could, Millwood is a quality starter... Also, I would rather trade prospects away rather than have them either taken away in the rule V or before it is determined that the prospects are not that good, or cannot stay healthy.... Rich Hill and Greenberg for Millwood and some cash.
