  1. What in the world is Sappelt thinking? There was absolutely no reason to try to advance to third when the tying run was going to score. Then Sveum lets Sappelt stay in the game. So much for all the lip service to accountability.
  2. Jackson with a leadoff walk...Sveum doesn't even give the kid a chance to try to steal a base because he just has to have Clevenger bunt. So after a nice at bat by Jackson, Latos throws one pitch and gets two outs. For all of the supposed good Sveum has done, his decision making still leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. I don't understand why any manager plays for a tie on the road.
  3. Steve Clevenger with 2 walks today. That has to be a first. And good to see.
  4. The Score just reported Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera was suspended 50 games for a positive test for increased testosterone. Interesting.
  5. Horrible bullpen execution and very dumb decisions by Sveum create a loss when the offense puts up 6.
  6. Very disappointing effort by the bullpen. Inability to throw strikes and constant nibbling is maddening. Dodgers reliever lets two guys on to leadoff the inning then just throws strike after strike to retire 3 straight hitters.
  7. The pitch selection and location being called by Castillo, the dugout or whomever leaves a lot to be desired. But Manny Corpas, you cannot walk Mark [expletive] Eliis in front of Matt Kemp with two outs and nobody on base. Now you allow the Dodgers to bring in their 8th and 9th inning guys who the Cubs couldn't touch last night.
  8. Soriano!!! Just missed the 3 run shot. Jackson's speed makes an impact.
  9. The lefty hitters go 1-1 with a walk and sac fly. Nice. I was surprised to see the ball hit by Rizzo carry to Either, I thought it was going to fall in.
  10. Probably not a smart thing to put three left handed hitters in a row at the top of the lineup. I just hope Sveum lets Jackson face the lefty pitcher.
  11. Is Dale Sveum really afraid to let a right handed pitcher face James Loney? Especially after that pitcher retired Andre Either. He had to know Mattingly would go to Rivera. And after Maine walks Rivera, there is absolutely no reason he should have been allowed to face Cruz.
  12. Yes it was. I wish Rizzo would have taken a couple of pitches to give Jackson a chance to run.
  13. From Gordon Wittenmeyer Glad to hear Jackson will start most of the time but not sure why Vitters isn't given the same chance. Didn't Sveum say earlier that if these guys are brought up they need to play everyday?
  14. I think all of the appearances early in the year are taking their toll. Or maybe, Camp remembered that he is not that good.
  15. In Coleman's defense, McCutchen's ground ball would probably resulted in at least one out if not a double play against most other teams. Since Sveum doesn't believe in positioning the middle infield differently with a runner on first base, the grounder went for a hit. When the ball was first hit, I assumed it would be a 6-4-3, in not a 6-3, double play. On the replay, you could see Barney shaded up the middle and Castro in the hole. That said, I don't believe Casey Coleman will take advantage of the opportunity presented to him.
  16. Trade can't be real...Dempster didn't update his twitter account yet and he said his followers would be the first to know...
  17. Like most people, I scratched my head when the Cubs signed Reed again. Then I got mad about it but for the last couple of months, I have changed my mind about him as the 4th or 5th outfielder. So I am willing to eat crow about Reed and am now finding myself thinking he would be a valuable bench guy next year too. I assume Vizcaino will not be ready until spring training next year. Does anyone know?
  18. Come on Len and Bob...end this one quickly.
  19. Len and Bob are having fun tonight. They were talking about Geo getting the same treatment from his teammates as Reed did. As the inning ends, Len says "I love ya partner, but don't hug me. I'm getting nervous." Bob's reply, "You ain't going no where."
  20. Bob Nightengale tweeted - Still awaiting news where #Cubs Reed Johnson is going. The #Tigers have shown interest, and pitch prospect Thomas Collier pulled after 3 IP
  21. Looks like Reed Johnson has been traded. Listach went from the 3rd base coaching box over to the dugout to shake Reed's hand.
  22. Starlin with two hits and a walk so far, not to mention the nice relay on the inning ending double play. Rizzo with a 3 run BOMB
  23. Wow - I didn't think Barney could hit one that far. Great at bat!
