  1. He is hitting under .200 with the bases empty but .324 with runners in scoring position so apparently there more BS left in him. Unbelievable how they maximize the talent.
  2. I am trying to figure out why the guy hitting .215 with an OBP of .260 bats 7th and the guy hitting .265 with a .333 OBP hits 8th. Especially when Castillo has been hot lately.
  3. That strikeout of Goldschmidt to end the third was pretty impressive. Time for the offense to score a few.
  4. Samardzija gets two outs on his first 4 pitches but then needs 20 more to get the final out.
  5. Here is an encouraging post from ABTY7 from PSD: Cubs brass has incredibly strong bid in on Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez... Unlikely to be outbid- really just a matter of if he wants to be here... http://forums.prosportsdaily.com/showthread.php?829356-2013-Free-Agent-and-Trade-Idea-Thread-5-0/page27
  6. Nice at bat Cody Ransom! And a nod to Darwin Barney for keeping the inning alive.
  7. In his defense that probably should have been sappelt hitting. I was surprised Sappelt didn't pinch hit. It is not like Bogusevic is a great defensive centerfielder and needs to remain in the game.
  8. Why on earth would Sveum send Valbuena? Theo can make all the excuses he wants but Sveum is not a good manager.
  9. Nice job Hector Rondon. Hopefully the offense can add on a couple of more runs in the ninth.
  10. Why? Most of these are established players. My concern is whether or not this coaching staff can develop the younger players. In a couple hundred games, what young players are getting better?
  11. Gomez with 32 pitches through 3 innings. Not exactly making him work too hard.
  12. Will Camp give up 2 grand slams in the same inning? Now Villanueva is throwing. A little too late Dale.
  13. Well, neither ump called it. To expect a batter to go after a pitch like that on 1-2 or 2-2 is one thing but on 3-2 is too risky in my opinion. But it was better than allowing a hit. Using your only lefty at that point is questionable as well.
  14. Kozma was going all the way. Sweeney fielded the ball and squared up like he was going to throw home, but then fired a perfect throw to second. Carpenter hadn't severely overrounded the bag or anything, but he got caught by half a step trying to get back. Thanks. Thank you as well soccer10k.
  15. For those of us who only have access to gameday right now - can someone explain what happened during Beltran's at bat. Was Kozma going all the way or was there an error?
  16. Cubs with a chance to get into the Brewers bullpen early tonight. Nice job of Shark keeping them in the game and keeping his pitch count reasonable.
  17. It would be nice to at least tie it and take Wood off the hook
  18. Jeff Baker's double almost hit the 368 sign in left center. Maybe the replay angle wasn't the best, but did anyone else think it could have been caught? Sappelt seemed to give up on it.
  19. Sveum is hoping Takahashi's arm falls off so he doesn't have to use him again??? The more likely answer is Sveum doesn't want to go through everyone in the bullpen in the first game of a 4 game series. At least that is my guess.
  20. If the forecast is correct, they might be lucky to play a 9 inning game the rest of the week. Even if they get 9 innings in, the conditions will be terrible.
  21. Nice to see the Cubs take advantage of their opportunities late in the game tonight. Hopefully Fujikawa has an easy 9th.
  22. Outfield now consists of Jonny Gomes, Ellsbury and Victorino. Does that sound like a group that will get Red Sox fans excited after the collapse in 2011 and the Bobby Valentine debacle in 2012? After a bad year, Shane Victorino gets almost a 50% raise. This will sound like a bitter old man, but the money these players are getting is ridiculous.
  23. I was looking forward to Haren pitching good and seeing what the front office could get for him at the trade deadline - assuming the team wouldn't be in playoff contention. After the news broke the trade wasn't happening, it made me wonder what other teams might be interested in Marmol and what the Cubs could get in return.
  24. Replay clearly showed that Castro had not got to home when Sappelt was tagged out. Castro probably eased up when he realized the catcher wasn't getting ready to field the throw. He did what 99% of the players would have done in that situation. I'm not blaming Castro, just going off assumption. Also, Sappelt should have stopped and/or ran back when he saw it was going to be close. LOL @ that last call too. Disgusting. I'm not blaming Castro either. How can an ump be standing that close to a runner on the grass and not realize the runner is out of the baseline? I can't believe they didn't ask the first base ump for help. Wow.
