  1. Having lived there for 7 years, I concur - it's all frosting and no cake. I've never met a shallower, more selfish and more mentally and spiritually unambitious group of troglodytes in my life. Careful. There are exceptions. BigBadB Superstar Joined: Tue Mar 04, 2003 8:38 pm Posts: 14129 Location: San Diego I would hope there would be exceptions, in a metro area that size. As a group though...

  3. Gallagher ( or Marshall), Murt, and Cedeno. That's my bet - and it's a deal I take if it's on the table.
  4. The right-hander’s numbers in Atlanta were not great (5.06 ERA in 13games), but Ascanio made a strong impression. He probably needs another year in the minors, since he jumped right from AA to the big leagues. Ascanio’s numbers in Mississippi were outstanding: 2.54 ERA in 44 games, 66 hits in 78 innings, 18 walks, and 71 strikeouts. Ascanio throws gas, and he’s a legit candidate to get some time in the Atlanta bullpen sometime during the season.

  6. Damn, exactly what I thought - the power eating guy...
  7. Jesus Christ. Can we stop looking at OPS and OPS+ for two seconds? Is it so hard to admit that (like most players) he's not a power hitter? He hits for average and gets on base at a high rate. Why is this so hard to understand? Because hitting for average and getting on base isn't all that a hitter has to do. He has been average or worse as a player 5 of the last 7 years. So he won't be the perfect player, but he can provide us with a solid OBP - which people have been bemoaning the lack of for a very long time. He can't hit for power, ok he never could. But he can set the table either for Lee, Ramirez, Floyd (or potential big bat) or if he's low in the order he can set the table for Soriano and Theriot/Fontenot. Yes, that .260 OBP is solid - something...
  8. Take it from a Bay Area resident who has seen a ton of Kendall these last 2.5 years - he's done. As Indy said, it's not the years, it's the mileage - and this guy has worn out the tread with the workload he's taken behind the plate. He's physically cooked and as a result, he's now one of the worst defensive catchers in baseball and, since he never had much power, his OBP-centric offensive game has suffered too. His walk rate might rebound and he could give us something like .270-340-330 in the 2nd half, but for as bas a catcher as he is that hardly seems like much of an upside. But hey - he's a great chemistry guy, so that must be what counts.
  9. Thomas and Noah?  I'd do that deal in a minute.
  10. So far: Jones, PTBNL, $1 to the Marlins for an A ball pitcher. However, it was just reported that the deal has hit a "snag" Only one million? WOW! Way to go Hendry! If it's only $1 million, the PTNBL is probably Pie... PTBNL would have to be a minor leaguer. Kidding guys, Kidding...

  12. If a fine is really all he gets, I may finally be finished with this sorry bunch. Failure is one thing, but cowardice another matter.
  13. Even before last season Jones had a reputation as a guy with poor fundamentals who threw the ball all over the field. Combining that with a dead arm was obviously a disaster and hopefully the arm has come back, but the defensive fundamentals will never change in a guy his age.
  14. There were serious questions about Randy Johnson's "makeup", too. Love this trade for the Sox.
  15. FWIW, as you on the "other" board know, one of my buddies played HS baseball against Giles, and there were rampant rumors then that both brothers were juicers. Take it FWIW. It is one possible explanation for the power drop last season.
  16. This stuff with Church sounds like so much blather to me. The guy takes walks, has pop and plays an average CF. I don't see anything remotely malignant enough to give me an ounce of worry. Trade Marshall for him yesterday.
  17. Apparently everyone except the Cubs front office. Actually, except the Indians front office if reports are to be believed.
  18. That's kinda shocking to me, but to each his own...
  19. I told you my sources on this story were good, but y'all had to be cynics...
  20. I'm curious on how many points the Gators get on the computers for a win over a 10-2 team. I suspect Michigan will hang on in the computer, but its the polls that worry me. Personally, Arkansas is a singularly unimpressive team IMO - Florida showed me nothing today.
  21. Thank God. Unless you've had a chance to see the destructive influence the Bonds circus has had on the Giants organization, you can't realize how bad an idea this is. He's a cancer, and one on his last legs at that. Steer well clear.
  22. If Wells has an '07 like his '06, he might get more than Soriano as a FA. He'd be foolish to sign an extension now.
  23. I don't want to see Murton platoon with anybody. He tore up righties after the break last year.
