  1. Ha, Gammons does have some of the best pocket tweets I've ever seen.
  2. Stop it. They didn't trade him last time for a [expletive] offer, I hardly think they will trade him this time for a worse than [expletive] offer. They may have no choice if he'll only sign off on LA. They can give him a qualifying offer and then take a 1st round pick or get Dempster back to do the same thing again next year. Teams don't get 1st round picks anymore, they just disappear now.
  3. It's not an odd list at all. He probably put the Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs on that list because those teams could give him a larger contract in order to convince him to come. It doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't want to play for those teams.
  4. Isn't Olt major league ready? I thought he would have been up by now but he's being blocked by Beltre.
  5. Does that say how much they like or don't like Vitters if they're looking for a 3rd baseman prospect back in return?
  6. I'm guessing they'll want the centerpiece of the deal to be under control for more than 1.5 years. Maybe not but I think they could get a better deal than that from someone else.
  7. I don't think we have the package to get it done compared to other teams. Too bad this isn't happening two years from now.
  8. If '84 was worse than '03 then I'm glad I wasn't alive for that. I was 15 in '03 and was depressed for weeks.
  9. I'm not all THAT high on him, but yeah, I agree with the idea. May as well get Rusin a few starts as well. If Maholm is traded, slot one in his place and give the other a few starts for Wood, if we need to manage his innings a bit. I'm not really high on him either but I'd rather see him get some starts than Coleman. Plus, Shark isn't going to be starting the rest of the season if they're going to limit him to 170IP like they said on the broadcast today.
  10. RHH hit .272 against Minor, LHH hit .267. If there was a game to get LaHair some at bats vs a LHP, it would be this one.
  11. I'd much rather keep him as well but I don't want to give him a Matt Cain type contract. I'd be hesitant to give him anything more than 18-20M per year. I like Garza but not at that kind of money.
  12. Rosenthal is saying the trade actually involves Lee instead. Which would be even worse than Jed. Though, I guess it would make sense with Ned at the helm.
  13. What's the Cubs record when an opposing player gets hit in the nuts?
  14. Signing one unknown prospect for close to 30 million is enough for me. Don't think it would be a wise use of funds to throw more than 50 million at international prospects. I want to sign the guy if the price is reasonable.
  15. I think by next season, Rizzo has helped ease some of the concerns about him. To me, the only 3 you're breaking in are Brett, Vitters, and Castillo. Granted, I actually searched for a few "veterans" to provide some semblance of stability, but didn't really see any that made sense for us. Could definitely see us having a few more stopgap guys than what I have listed. As for the pitching, other than Turner, in this case, everyone else has shown an ability to be decent at the big league level. Added a 6th guy, thought about adding a 7th or 8th as well, but I figure we'll do that on minor league deals. My point though, is I think they want to suck again. And the 2 years of extremely high picks and huge IFA budgets are the reason. That alone should give us plenty of ammo to use for trades and finding an impact guy or two for us as well. And I think the Soriano contract, though through 2014 will be accounted for, by doing this, as paid in full with 2013 budgeted payroll. I just...I don't...what the hell kind of operation do you think they're running? They're not sorcerers; you can't rely on prospects that much. I don't disagree, but Theo has hinted that that's exactly what he wants to do. No, it's not. Having a strong farm system doesn't equate to building a team that relies almost completely on prospects. While I agree, I don't think it will be until after the 2013 season where they invest big money on the big league club. Doesn't mean they won't go out and invest some money to improve the team for next year but I don't think they'll be giving out any 4 or 5 year deals for another year.
  16. Mike Adamle is the absolute worst. I can't watch that NBC Sunday sports show when he's doing it because he just makes unwatchable.
  17. He's not even worth close to that.
  18. Why should we trade him? Why would he be untouchable? Just because we shouldn't trade him doesn't make him untouchable. It just wouldn't make sense to deal him with what we could get back for him.
  19. From MLBTR: •The Nationals have been poking around for a right-handed hitting corner infielder to replace Mark DeRosa, who is hurt and declining. John Lannan has improved his trade stock by pitching better of late in Triple-A. DeRosa was activated from the DL today.
  20. Rizzo got pulled in the 4th inning today.
  21. Nothing in those quotes disproves what Bruce said. Dale said they don't have a date on it, Monday could still be the day like Levine mentioned.
