  1. These are big ifs, but if Lester, Arrieta and Hendricks are all good in October, and the bullpen is really this good, then that will go a long way to removing some of baseball's October randomness. That all seems so far away from possible right now.
  2. Shaw just hit a 2-out 3-run HR in the top of the 10th off of Oh, so it's good the Cardinals bullpen is still awful.
  3. Pretty annoying that a routine groundball to 1B was the downfall to this game.
  4. Can't wait for this Carlos Zambrano versus Eli Marrero match.
  5. I do have to remind myself that nearly every loss we have is annoying because they are A. Low run differentials B. Against an inferior team
  6. Sometimes you just get beat by the other team. Other times the ther team plays like absolute garbage and somehow comes out on top.
  7. Remember that time we were facing a knuckleballer and Milton Bradley took his first AB against him LH and then his second AB he batted RH?
  8. Lester has been to 3-2 in all 3 PA tonight if I remember correctly.
  9. Coghlan didn't touch 3B last night. Lol. The Cardinals 3B wasn't watching. Their defense is sooooo bad. I also enjoyed listening to the Cardinals broadcasters make fun of Gibbons last night for not being a good NL manager because after the 9th he was left without position players and the pitcher's spot was due up 5th in the 10th. Well, Stroman hit in that pitcher's spot in the 11th and got the 2B that lead to him scoring on the Cardinals 4th E of the night. Big runs scored in the 7th, 9th and 11th all due to Cardinals errors. I know that the results don't always mean the method was correct (although I think Gibbons did just fine making the personnel moves he made to have a lead going into the bottom of the 9th). But the Cardinals announcers aren't smart enough to figure any of that out as they went on and on about how the Cardinals were able to tie the game in the 9th because Wong put a good bunt down and people who are anti-bunt are idiots and don't understand giving yourself up for the betterment of the team.
  10. Their base running is awful too. It's glorious that they're so bad at the "fundamental" things that the organization and their fans take so much pride in.
  11. I'm not one to defend the Cardinals or Carpenter, but the strike 2 call was a lot worse than that graphic shows.
  12. I just went back and watched it. Pretty crazy if you ask me. Calhoun was standing in the box without his arm up or anything for quite awhile. Is it Stroman's fault Calhoun is looking at the ground? This seems to be a pretty bad call.
  13. I often stay up late to catch one more Mike Trout AB before going to bed. Last night was the third time this season he has rewarded me with a HR in that last AB. This one was to RF and was beautiful.
  14. I just hit record on the Reds broadcast. Please let me enjoy going back to watch it
  15. The last time the Cubs played extras in Ohio was probably more fun than tonight is going to be.
  16. That was ball 4 if he doesn't swing. Same with KB to end last inning.
  17. Just went back and watched because I was putting the kids to bed. What an ump show.
  18. Not sure I'll stop worrying about Bryant until I actually see him swing the bat.
  19. The Cubs' record shows lots of ties back in the 40s through 60s, as do the records of most other teams. Obviously some were due to lack of lights, but lots of others were just called as ties after 10 innings or whatever. This is minutiae, but I'm not sure I understand why the ties, last year's tie included, don't appear to be factored into the win percentage. I think they're technically considered unplayed games
  20. By this logic MLB should also have a slaughter rule to shorten games to 5 innings if one team is up by 5 runs or w/e. This is a solution in search of a problem. Nah, that happens far more often, and would have a much larger impact. This is a change that would be to what you already showed was a very small number of games. Like I said, there are better solutions such as adding players to the 25 man roster for a few days.
  21. I heard on the radio (so not sure about source) that there were 99 games last year in MLB that exceeded 10 innings. That works out to just over 1 per month per team. Leave baseball alone. That said, if forced to choose I would much rather have ties after 12 innings than the dumb rule where each team starts with a runner on 2B. Free baseball and the sudden death type nature. Extra innings are the best. There are just so many better ways to deal with the only real potential problem - too many innings thrown by relievers. Like, day after 12+ innings game each team that played in that game can replace a player on their 25-man roster for up to 2 days. Like an extra inning induced 1-2 day DL.
