  1. They had better not pull another stunt where the Russian athletes get to go under a different name like that Olympics a few years ago. I believe it was "Russian Olympic Committee" or some nonsense which basically made the punishment worthless.
  2. I actually kind of think that with Stroman pitching so badly over this stretch that maybe we've reached the point where the return isn't going to be worth not giving it a go for the division.
  3. Take 3 of 4 and they're definitely in buyer's territory, maybe even 2-2. 1-3 or 0-4 and it's game over.
  4. Well this isn't good for their chances of winning or Stroman's trade value.
  5. Syndergaard for Amed Rosario was an interesting trade. If anyone can get Syndergaard right it's Cleveland.
  6. In the Royal's game today, they had 10 guys get plate appearances. Only 2 of the 10 had an OBP .300 or over and those 2 were .322 and .346.
  7. Zach Eflin is getting an MRI on his knee after today's start. Even if they add Lynn, they may need to add another arm now.
  8. I liked Len and Deshaies the most and Boog is growing on me, but there's a special place in my heart for Boog and Girardi. I just absolutely love how openly he dislikes Girardi.
  9. Looks like it's pretty unlikely Lynn goes tonight if The WSox and Rays are close to a deal.
  10. Was it Wittenmayer or Kaplan that was always negative about Aramis being lazy and constantly raving about Ryan Theriot?
  11. He's not going to turn what's likely going to be like a 4/100 or 5/125 deal in FA to stay with the Cubs on a 1/21 deal. I don't care how much he likes Chicago.
  12. I'm pretty sure he's making fun of the fact that you're so down on Mervis being 25 and yet in this scenario you're hyping this prospect who likely doesn't see the bigs until 25, if at all.
  13. If Wiggins or Sanders goes the way of Horton, I will completely cease second guessing any pitching draft picks.
  14. I wonder how this impacts a possible Bowers selection in next year's draft.
  15. Yeah, I think he definitely needs AAA. I could see him come up to MLB post a 3 BB% and 30K% and completely flounder. I will say he's probably due for a AAA promotion though. His BB% is up to 8.0 in AA from 4.9 in A+ last year. K% has stayed about the same. If he could hold that BB% and get the K% down to about 20, I'd be real excited.
  16. I think what I would hate most if the Cubs were to become buyers is that I can see a scenario where Mervis just stays down in AAA all year.
  17. They also spent most of the game gushing over Jake Burger who has a .766 OPS and .9 fWAR this season.
  18. Fun with run differentials Chicago Cubs +45 49W-51L Baltimore Orioles +48 62W-39L San Diego Padres +52 49W-53L
  19. Wide Receiver leaders are almost as awful as QB. The all time receiving leader for the Bears is Johnny Morris from 1958-1967 at 5059 yards. That's the lowest in the NFL for a franchise leader. The 3rd worst franchise is the Titans/Oiler at 7935 yards. Then of course number one is Jerry Rice at 19247. 5059 is so pitifully low that 26 year old DJ Moore would already be the franchise's leader receiver at 5201 receiving yards.
  20. I agree, but I'm really getting the impression that short of a blow them away type of deal, Bellinger is just going to ride his time out here. They'll give him a qualifying offer and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were in on him in FA. For whatever reason the front office seems to like Bellinger quite a bit more than Stroman.
  21. Another game that is kind of a must win if they want to be buyers.
  22. I think I've fallen into the camp where I believe it's more likely they keep Bellinger than trade him, unless they completely fall on their faces over the next week. With that said, I think you have to go after their extreme pitching depth. I'd love to land Max Meyer and Dax Fulton would be a nice option too. I'm not sure Eder would be available, but he'd be a great get too. PS: Thank god the Cubs didn't select Jacob Berry last year, what a disaster for a "safe pick"
